A machine rated at least at 3.0 Ghz
2 gig of ram (minimum of 1.5) <- speaking from experience
Radeon 9800 XT or better
Don't use onboard sound, get at least an Audigy or better card

I enjoy a nice game with medium to high settings using the following rig
P4 3.0 (533 bus)
2 Gig Dual Channel Kingmax
Radeon 9800 XT
Games and OS installed to 2x80Gig 7200 rpm SATA (raid 0 config)
Audigy DE (soon to be replaced with Creatives new X-Fi sound card)

loads more ram for starters. As Hermi said, 1.5 minimum. 2 gig preferred. BF 2 is a resource beast.

Always have more than or equal to the recommended with games. In english "recommended" means "playable to a degree" and minimum means "it will load, anything else is unknown" .

If you’re on a budget you will get away with your processor provided you have at least 1.5g ram and a better video card. A 256meg 6600gt would probably be your best choice price wise at this point in time. This would allow you to play on about medium @ 1024 x 768.
Ram and video card make the biggest performance difference. CPU should be third on your list.

i have a p3.0, 2gb ram and gtx7800 pro. runs sweet but you need the extra ram defniintely because one map uses roughly 800mb ram.

if you looking to upgrade get the cpu and ram first, cause you can play with the graphics turned down (my geforce 5900 ran ok on minimum specs). even my gtx7800 doesn't run well on max so you will be forking out major $$ to get max detail.

i suggest mimimising textures but keeping geometry high because that gives you distance vision when piloting/sniping etc.

have fun!

I need to give it a go on my new beastie.

AMD x2 4400
7800GTX
2 GIG RAM

That should be ok for Quake 3.

Your common bf2 player must also possess an overall misguided sense of glorification and an absolute hatred of counter-strike. Please make sure you meet these requirements. Or you could just be gay like A_W.

you'll also need a working pg_dw key for all those pesky tk'ers - irregardless of whether it was completely your fault for running into that tank/c4/chopper spray/arty

Probably easiest just to remove the pgUp key altogether, just in case you press it by accident.
