Topic: Suggestions for Liquid-food

Well, in short I've got a serious throat infection and as a result my throat is majorly swollen, and I can barely swallow water without being in intense pain (solid foods are well and truly out). I haven't really eaten much of anything in the past three days, and I'm figuring that is not healthy at all.

What ideas do you have for liquidish foods - I'm going to give some smoothies a try today along with some proper soups like pumpkin etc (not cup-of-soup stuff), but damn I've already lost three kilos and I'm feeling more and more lethargic each day due to lack of food :(

On the straw diet eh :P

Smoothies are probably a good option.

Orrr go buy a food processor and blend away! My grandma has recently been in hospital and when visiting her lunch was on and ALL her food was mush. MMMM tasty mint roast lamb... paste, fresh garden vegetables... paste, mashed potato well I guess thats okay.

go to a chemist, see what they say...they'd probably sell you soluble vitamin & other good stuff, stuff.

Buy some protein powder, some frozen yogurt (vanilla is a good base so u can mix with other s***), and a variety of nice fruits. Use about 50 grams of powder. Throw an egg in too.

You'll be laughin they taste awesome if u get the frozen yogurt in there.

i found that solid food hurts less than drinking water when i had tonsilitus(sp?). like swallowing water was very painfull, but just eating something like bread wasn't that bad.

but i guess you know what hurts and what doesn't?

breakfast : 2-3 poppers of up and go (sif just one, that s*** is so tiny)
lunch : vegitable paist,
tea : soup?
and if your thursty during the day, drink some sort of protein shake. (but one with all the vitamins instead of just tard loads of protein, like sustigen, although i heard that sustigen was bad for your liver or something, but that was by the same chemist that said you NEED to drink 8 glasses of water a day to be healthy, so i would't take it to heart.)

Matey, if your throat hurts enough for you to be off solid food completely, perhaps you should go and see a doctor. A strep infection in the throat could potentially cause permanent heart valve damage and kidney damage. No kidding.

Meanwhile, I am sure there are some over-the-counter drugs that will numb the throat a bit and make your life a bit less miserable. If you are off food for a while, that is really no big deal. Just make sure you drink plenty of water/juice/milk etc. Keep up with the hydration. People die of dehydration faster than they die of starvation.

From memory the record is about 69 days of starvation before you die. Of course your mileage may vary...

Go see a doctor ffs.

WHat LD99 said...screw going to a chemist...see a doctor first.
Gee....my arm has been ripped off and hanging by several tendons,i know what i'll do!! Instead of going to see some one who's been medically trained,i'll post it on QGL...there combined knowledge will surely prove more beneficial then any noob who studies for this kind of thing for 5 or so years!

Didn't the doctor give you an anti-inflamitory? There are these throat lozenges i always get for sore throats because they have an anti-inflamitory in them. The reduce the swelling and therefore reduce the pain. Could be worth a shot in your case, would check with a doc first though. Don't wanna go mixing meds :P
