What's the 'friggin best' (colour) printer I can buy for around $400 (to print everything from photos to shizzle for my digital design course - A4, borderless, fast, not insanely expensive ink..)

(sick of researching, i want someone's opinion)

I've got a Canon Pixma IP4000 and it kicks some serious ass. Nice and fast and can print directly onto cds. Paid $219 from Computer Alliance so I guess if you've got $400 to spend you could go a few models up and get a better one.

EDIT: Also has 5 individual ink cartridges. I think they cost about $30 each to replace, which is better than buying a whole new one if it's only one colour you need.

I got a canon MPC 190 a year and a half ago. It does printing, scanning and copying. I'm pretty happy with it.

what I'm looking at at the moment is a Photosmart 8230 - if I don't get any recommendations otherwise ill probably go nab one (on your other note, the hp has 6 separate ink cartidges)

Ive got the Canon Pixma IP6000...its better than Rev's cause it has 2000 more in the name =)
Refilling them only costs $12 too Rev

Lexmark printers are teh gay. Their photo quality may be good but paying $60 per ink cartridge because you have to replace the print head each time sucks ass.

Canon FTW. Awesome ink economy and good print quality.
