A licensed copy of Quake 4 retail for Windows(r) is required. That's a little commanding is it not? :) I'm glad they do multi-platform development. It keeps their code generic and easy to mod. |

I got it working. I get 5-15 FPS better in Linux than on WinXP, especially in those open areas that tend to crunch hard.
I was about to give up on Q4 as being unplayable on my system, but this Linux version has saved the day. |

I forgot to mention that you don't need the DVD left in the drive to play the game (as you do in the windows version).

PhantomLord - what are the specs on your machine? Are you running 2.4 or 2.6 kernel? NVidia / Raedon video card?
Just trying to suss it out before I commit. |

I have a P4 2GHZ, 500mb ram, ATI 9800 pro (128mb) and the game is only JUST playable on Linux. Even with Q4 graphics set as low as possible, frames get as low as 20 in the middle of maps.
I suggest you test out the doom3 demo on your linux box, as the system requirements are very similiar to that of Q4. Good luck EDIT: I'm running SUSE 10 last edited by PhantomLord at 17:19:52 22/Oct/05 |

P4 2GHZ, 500mb ram, ATI 9800 pro (128mb) i've got amd xp 2000, 1gb ram, ati 9600xt(128) and doom ran pretty decent on medium settings, so does that mean that q4 will run decently on medium? |

Doom 3 ran quite well on my system too, so I was suprised how badly it ran Q4 multiplayer. Everything works fine until you get into the big open areas (that doom3 lacked). Yes, I know my system is crap.
If you have a borderline system like mine, then I wouldn't recommend buying Q4. |

If you have a borderline system like mine I borrowed the game off a friend to see if it would run decently on my system. I have a 2600+, 512MB ram, 9600XT and it runs -ok- at 800x600 in windows. Not that great. Luckily I don't like the game at all. Very uninspiring. I loved Doom3, but this game ... *yawn*. |
