I'm looking at buying some new headphones. Mostly so I can play quake 4 without waking up everyone else in our building. Might use them for listening to music a little too.

Any recommendations around the $100 - $150 mark?

Cheers

Sennheiser HD202... get a pair from rocking horse rekkids for about $60-70, full covers over yur ears... no sound escapes! My workmates who I tormented for years with high volume Dead Kennedies & Death Metal can attest to how little sound escapes these headies when they are worn. Decent frequency responce, comfy fitting & a long cable with one of those roll-up doovahs so it doesnt get all twisted while your not using them.

Check out Jaycar - they have a pair for $45 that are virtually equal to most of the others in the $100-$150 range.

I only have one recommendation when buying headphones for extended listening. Circumaural. That is, with ear cups that sit AROUND you ears, not on them. If the ear cups press onto your ears, your ears start to hurt after using them for an extended period.

Personally, I am very happy with my AKG K55's that I picked up a few years back for $60 from Brisbane Sound. (These days they go for $70 i think)

I got a set of Sennheiser HD477 from jb hi-fi for about $100. They do the job quite nicely. But as huon pointed out they make my ears hurt after a while so make sure they are comfortable.
