Activision have announced that Quake 4 has gone gold and will be shipping in Australia on October 19.
Developed by Raven Software and executive produced by id Software, QUAKE 4 begins only moments after the events of QUAKE II, with the Earth's fleet launching a massive offensive to the planet Stroggos. As Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad, gamers invade the alien stronghold, fighting alone, along side other Marines, and in mechanized walkers and hover tanks as they encounter the Strogg and their disturbing amalgamations of man and machine. Built on id Software's revolutionary DOOM 3® technology, QUAKE 4 also features fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed style and feel of QUAKE III Arena.
There doesn't appear to be official confirmation about whether or not a demo will be released before the game (or at all), so its looking like you'll have to buy this one on faith and/or screenshots and/or movies.

Finally, a game that isnt trying to be as realistic (and failing) as possible.

< Insert comment about how the game hasnt changed in 5 years, here >

< Insert me telling you to f*** off back to 5 year old counterstrike, here >

yeah that must be it ... wouldn't have anything to do with people not liking windows and also being able to get higher fps/smoother gameplay in linux

edit: and linux being more stable for servers

I'd get rid of my windows partition if more games came out on linux, sick of paying the microsoft tax.

i wish linux gamers would just get over it and stop spoiling it for the rest of us

Spoiling what?

Oh, because Tepid loves Microsoft and Windows, all development for other operating systems should cease IMMEDIATELY!

QUICK SOMEONE TELL LINUS TO STOP DEVELOPING THE LINUX KERNEL!

after so many years with quality games, i'll be buying it just because Id developed it.

Well in that case you shouldn't but this game since it wasn't developed by id. The only thing id developed for quake4 was the engine.

hey mutty ltns

just an opinion of mine, quake 3 multiplayer is much better than quake 2 feel wise, it's just more solid and 'crisp', if you can understand that

i love quake 2's jumping/movement and the grapple + techs in ctf, but otherwise quake 3 is where it's at

they've incorporated the quake 2 ramp sliding in quake 4, so it might even be perfect

The proper website is up now, doesn't seem to work in Firefox though. There are two new videos, "weapons" (shows the Gladiator) and "squad".

After the disgrace that was Doom 3, (turn a corner, monster, next corner, another monster, etc etc etc) ID will have to work hard to redeem itself with Q4.
wow, 3 mistakes in one sentence, nice work

What is it with these first time posters trying to hammer Quake4 before it even comes out?

Are they regulars to afraid of the crap they will cop to post it under their normal account or what?

I'll save my judgement for when i've actually played it.

Same with music.

I went to the US, and music albums were about $23 AUD. It's ridiculous. And if Quake4 costs $90-100 in Australia (I haven't purchased it, so I don't know), then that's a ridiculous cost for such an uninteresting game.

Well, multiplayer pwns, and i havent had much time to get a good chunk into singleplayer so I cannot really commet... from what I have played though its awesome.

It's not overpriced, I paid $85 for my copy the day it was released, if you paid $100 then you got jipped... not that $15 goes far these days anyway.

Still no demo though, so I cant suggest people give it a 'try before you buy'.

Ps: I baught mine from EB
PPs: US$50 sound about the same price as what we pay for it in relative currency.

yeah pretty much. last night was a write off :D

it's interesting to see that iD are still looking for a new webmaster. there's an 'excessive'-like MOD out for Q4 already too!

I'm stuck outside where the guy tells you to open the door so you can proceed to blow up the big cannon. I can't get out of the trench area. Where do I go?
