Basically I wanna buy a cheap motorbike and ride it around locally to get places cheap (maybe even to uni if it's that cheap)
Any of you guys know: 1 roughly how much a motorbike that won't kill me will cost 2 how long / $? to get motorbike license (those daylong courses seem ok?) 3 what kinda distance/fuel ratio you get, i.e. 10km/litre? |

Don't forget to add in a decent helmet and jacket. A mate of mine who rides easily spend a couple of hundred $$$ on the jacket and helmet alone.

www.bikesales.com.au or www.bikepoint.com.au are good sites to have a look at and the trading post aswell.
Should be able to pick up something roadworthy for $1500 at a guess. My cbr250 averages 4.5L/100km. Edit: regarding licencing - the Q-ride course takes a day yes and costs about $200-$300 depending whether or not you know how to ride already. last edited by tominator at 20:24:06 29/Aug/05 |

get a scooter.
They're about $2,000 brand new and they cost a couple of bucks to fill up. |

Its not the motorbike that kills you.
Its the fact a 4x4 just changed into your lane. |

With the way fuel prices are headed i would consider getting a scooter which brings up a question.
Do you need a motorbike license to ride a scooter? |

Don't forget to add in a decent helmet and jacket. A mate of mine who rides easily spend a couple of hundred $$$ on the jacket and helmet alone.Save atleast $1000 to $1500 for the works: Jacket, Gloves, Boots, Helmet, Wet weather gear and maybe even something more than simply a pair of jeans. Edit: regarding licencing - the Q-ride course takes a day yes and costs about $200-$300 depending whether or not you know how to ride already.Just for reference for persay, my licence took me 10 hours, provisional status for three years. Its not the motorbike that kills you. Its the fact a 4x4 just changed into your lane. This is the truth, cars don't see you for s***. ride like they are out to run you over. Do you need a motorbike license to ride a scooter?if its 50cc, a car licence is good enough. lots of crazy f***ers on scooters without any real protective clothing. |

You also have to throw into doubt your heterosexuality.
A scooter is like a flame shirt, but with a motor. |

nah 50cc scoot is too pissy. Prolly even dangerous as it doesnt have enuf acceleration to get you out of dangerous situations.
Id go a 100-150cc scooter. Yamaha Aerox, Bug or Aprillia DiTech are pretty good, zippy little scooters. Plenty of good 2nd hand scooters can be found on ebay or Trading Post Online. |

^ any bike on the highway is 'fun'.
Just to get this in perspective. The average Scooter is designed soley for city commuting from suburb to suburb they arent designed for round Australia trips etc. *nods* to all sarcastic knobs last edited by sLaps_Forehead at 09:37:40 30/Aug/05 |

All of the 100cc+ Scooters Ive mentioned are capable of 90klm/hr speeds.
Yes, nearly all 50cc Scooters are limited to speeds of 60klm/hr. My next car is going to be the air car! Only have to wait 2yrs or so :( http://www.theaircar.com/# http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/9798/index3ic.jpg No more Fuel Bills!!!! last edited by sLaps_Forehead at 09:47:37 30/Aug/05 last edited by sLaps_Forehead at 09:47:52 30/Aug/05 |

IT is pretty hard to see motorbikes, when they speed past you, and always jump cars at the lights because there to impatient to wait there turn to go. Its a give and take, its not always the cars fault there is an accident.

I always lanesplit to the front of traffic, why wait when we have a size advantage?
I zoom past 2kms of standstill traffic each morning to work, like i'm going to wait 30 minutes. one of the many advantages of riding a motorcycle. |

Thats my poitn vash, your not suppose to do that, if a cop sees you do that, you will get done, thats what causes accidents, so dont go around claiming cars cause the accidents all the time.

Edit: regarding licencing - the Q-ride course takes a day yes and costs about $200-$300 depending whether or not you know how to ride already. They say most people will take 10 hours. Depending on the group you're with also sometimes is a factor on how long they'll make you go for. Mine was $500 all up if i remember, for my opens |

About 10 cops over the last 18 months i've passed whilst lanesplitting have done nothing. They don't care, nearly every motorcyclist does it. Even on the freeway on friday nights, traffic is moving at 30kmh, i get on the emergency lane. Passed two cops doing this and they don't care :) |

Well they should, the laws exist for a reason. My mate got fined a total of 300 dollars, lost all his points on his bike for crossing lanes he couldnt cross, overtaking and speeding. I wish they would do this to all those crazy bikers.

I take it you really like bikes.
The ZX is pretty btw :) What do you use the individual bikes for? I assume there must be a use for each and every one? |
