Someone was recently telling me that with winamp pro you are able to edit mp3s so they are able to be uploaded as ringtones for mobile phones.
Does anyone know how to do this?? WOuld appreciate the help :) Captivate. |

get a phone that lets you use mp3's as ringtones?
I'd say you're more likely to have success with software that comes with your phone, or made by 3rd parties for your phone. There's some thing that converts wav files to whatever the hell sound format my phone uses. (ericsson) |

If your phone supports truetone, convert it to .wav
If not, winamp isn't going to help you |

Just re-encode the mp3 to lower bitrate and mono sound, if you have an audigy then there's software on the cd that will let you edit the mp3, alternativly use This, Might need mp3 codec like lame...
If your mobile doesnt support mp3's then something like This May work... last edited by 0z at 01:26:58 22/Aug/05 |

Goldwave. Works awesomely. Can do a lot of things with it, like reduce bass (which is good for bassy songs cos mobile speakers are s***) and cut/paste and stuff.

soundforge is good.
I'm also looking for a simple-as-s*** program to cut sections of mp3's to use as ringtones. |

hey captivate,
Audacity is the way to go. Its easy to use. Import the file, chop down the bit you want to have as the tone, muck round with the bitrate if you want (i'v got a motorolla v535, and i can get about 4-5 192kb 30 sec bits without a problem onto it), then, export the selected bit as an mp3, download the lame.dll file from somewhere so that it works, then bluetooth the file, or whatever you do. I'v found its the easiest way to do it |
