Kimba the White Lion Deluxe DVD Collection

Release Date: 21/09/2005
Audio tracks: English 2.0
Languages: English, Japanese
Subtitles: English subtitles
Runtime: 1150.0 mins
Format: DVD, Region 4
Cost: $149.95

From the creator of Astroboy comes Kimba, one of the "first-generation anime classics" from Japan, and the first to be broadcast in color, in 1965.

Featuring spectacular designs and trailblazing animation techniques, gentle stories, and a catchy theme song, Kimba's adventures are enchanting tales of jungle survival and social reform. With his pals Pauly the Parrot, Daniel Baboon, and a charming assortment of loveable characters, Kimba follows in the footsteps of his late father, the great lion king, but he leaves his own trail, making the jungle a safer, better place to live for everyone.

This DVD boxed contains all 52 colour episodes on ten discs plus an extra eleventh disc of extras. The episodes are in the order according to Osamu Tezuka's original storyline.

Anyone else excited about this? Man, I used to love watching this back in the 80's. I know it's already been released on VHS, but that was about 10 years back and there were like only 2 eps per cassette, and you couldn't even buy the whole series, they were only random eps. Anyway, just over a month to go and one of the most memorable cartoons is being released in all it's glory. Can't wait!

heh, I watched this in th' 70's back when I was an anklebiter...
Danil Boon (the baboon), Polly the parrot etc (who was the gazelle?)
I even named our Blue Heeler Cattle dog (before they *was* considered a fancy breed) after him.

Damn fine dog he was too. Survived being caught in 2 cane fires believe it or not (had no ears left though)

He died of Heart Worm

Yeah, I always thought that The Lion King was a parallel rip off of Kimba, still entertaining though

heh, kimba. I don't reckon that the Lion King was a rippoff of Kimba... totally different stories even if they did both contain animated lions... so did narnia! :P Kimba cartoons always seemed to be resolved by Kimba running really, really, really fast. :P~ Usually after being captive or something of the like... from my very vague memories of it.

p.s. Yes. Astroboy sucked. Gayest manga ever.

I don't understand, if the sound is in English, and the subtitles are in English, then what the hell is the Japanese for?

Well, I'm guessing the subtitles would be for deaf people and the Japanese is for people that don't need it dubbed in English.

So people like me can practice their rusty Japanese skills. Also, english dubs tend to suck.

Kimba was teh kewlies. Except somebody should tell them lions don't live in the jungle, they live in the savanna. Also, I'm gonna write to blizzard and tell them cheetahs aren't pack animals (check the explanation of 'aspect of the pack').
