Back window was smashed. One of those annoying things where I didn't lose anything, but my girlfriend had her bag with a whole bunch of s*** including a $700 digi camera with over 100 photos and house keys and her cards and phone and everything. The whole ashtray had been ripped out. Too bad they didn't take the stereo because it's a piece of s***. We have full insurance but it's all under my mum's name. Do we have to pretend the stuff that was stolen was actually my mum's? Or does it not matter who it belonged to? I've called the police who are sending someone out to my house. After that I'll call insurace. In the mean time we are trying like hell to work out what else we could have left in the car that was taken. |

as far as I am aware ( and I could be wrong) that the comprehensive insurance on your car covers all items inside the car, regardless of who owns them.
IMO best to be safe than sorry and get your mum to report it with a list of stuff that your missus has written down. That sucks dude, im sorry they didnt steal your stereo :( |

Don't worry since you posted on the internet Superman has been put on the case and the evil doer should be caught sometime in the next 25seconds :p
But seriously, I'd be getting a locksmith right now to change the locks on the missus' house since they've got all the details (i presume her addie is on her license)... Ring the phone for a laugh see if they pick up :p Oh and why was all that good stuff left in a car? |

Yeh we are onto changing the locks already. I think the phone was out of battery and switched off so they can't use it.
All that good stuff was left in the car cause I was too lazy to get it out or drive her home last night. |

Ok, here's the deal: We get some trolley bars and wait in the bushes outside your girlfriend's house (I'll show you the best spots where you get a great view of everything). Then obviously we bash them till the give back the stuff - problem solved.

i seriously doubt that anyone who would smash the back window of a car to rob it would have the intelligence to organise a robbery of a house

Car insurance will only cover you up to a point, the Suncorp limit is $300, don't know about the rest of them. You'll also only have access to this cover if the damage caused to the car is more than your excess.
Point: Your girlfriend should have contents away from home coverage, comp car insurance is designed to cover your car, not the junk in it. |

They probably smashed your windows *because* of your girlfriend's handbag doode. Let it be a lesson to you to never leave anything that look like it's valuable in your car.
But yeah get your mum to report the incident, if she's got comprehesive it should (depends on the policy) cover contents of the car. Bad luck man :( |

I'm guessing that they did break in because of her bag. The driver's side lock has been smashed in too, so they were obviously unsuccessful with that and then smashed the window.
A cop came out and took all the details of everything and now we are talking to our car insurance and home insurance. Really not looking good. $350 excess on the car alone (surely a lock, ashtray and quarter window wouldn't cost that much??) and they are both saying that car contents is probably not covered. Point: Your girlfriend should have contents away from home coverage, comp car insurance is designed to cover your car, not the junk in it. It was my car not her's though:/ And HER car was broken into 5 months ago and she made a claim then. |

You need to give her flowers to make her feel better. It will have the added result of making you feel better that she feels less bad. And you'll both feel less violated by the a****** who did it, and leave less anger to vent which has no outlet because parties unknown have scarpered already.
Other than that, I have no advice. Also, sucks :/ |

^Nah just the one driver's lock. I'm gonna go get a quote for it today so if it's less than 350 we don't pay.

Sorry to hear it will. but my girlfriend had her bag with a whole bunch of s*** including a $700 digi camera with over 100 photos and house keys and her cards and phone and everything. I dont know how much you trust your girlfriend, but sounds to me like a unblemished ploy by her, for you to spend more money on her. |

Take her out for ice cream to comfort her.
Then, for no reason other than to be remembered... Smash her ice cream cone into her face and say "YOU f***ING REMEMBER ME." And run off. |

I'm gonna go get a quote for it today so if it's less than 350 we don't pay. Quarter is probably $350 on its own. |

Just a heads up - chances are, your policy already covers re-keying and re-coding of locks. So if you're going to change the locks, ring the insurance company or check your current policy schedule / product disclosure statement to see if you are covered.
Might as well get it in the same claim if you can. |
