Quake 4 multiplayer is being demoed at Quakecon, which is just gearing up. Shots leaked so far:

Weapon cycle movie Five more new singleplayer shots: 01 02 03 04 05 Roaming footage from the show floor showing some rail, nailgun and hyperblaster action. New, official video from the singleplayer campaign. Best footage of multiplayer so far available here. It looks really fast. You may notice people firing in to teleporters, projectiles now pass through and come out the other side. 170MB video of Fatality playing Quake 4. Heaps of shaft and gl action, I pulled it at about 150k/sec. Even more singleplayer shots: 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 Nullsoft video footage of an official presentation of Quake 4 from the con, and John Carmack's keynote speech. I found the torrents were way faster than the direct download. WASD.tv have better footage of singleplayer from the presentation, with sound all the way through. Last update, these are all fairly good quality: A brief demonstration of the ramp jump physics and firing through teleporters. Citizen poorly demonstrates nailgun climbing for a second in this one. Two vids of some tard running around in CTF: 01 02 A goon interviews Fatal1ty. "I like the ones where I can feel". Quakecon is over so that will probably be it until there is something official, although the admins are requesting any footage people took at the show to host on the site. I'd say the pics look a bit ordinary because they are shaky cam grabs from the event. Would be good to see the engine and crisp graphics running at a decent clip for real. With their pedigree I am expecting Raven to deliver on this one.

The video of the deathmatch level looked exactly like Q3, so boring. Hopefully there'll be better looking ones than that and I hope the single player game is good as well. They need to chuck in mutators like Unreal.

So, which one of you a******s told iD software that instant, high damage, high velocity weapons were a fun part of their games? Fair enough the story line continues from Quake 2, but that doesnt mean they NEED to put it into multiplayer : / Say NO to the railgun! Yeah, I dont like how some of those weaps look...rocket launcher looks like it takes up a huge amount of space.
I personally like the railgun and have no problem with it being in q4. I'm hoping they'll have push back with lg in q4 (there is some push back in q3 just not as much as quake). I'm sure if they do what they did with the q3 test and got some ideas from people they'll make modifications if it blows goats. |

Yeah the q3a one is good, but a little more push back would be nice, hopefully the machine gun isn't as strong as the q3 one aswell...that'd be annoying.

to bad they are released quake 4 for the xbox 360 first. xbox and pc at the same time i can understand but to sellout to a console before the pc release (for an obvious pc title) is just so... f***ed. then again PCs are only responsable for ID being where they are today so why not develop for consoles first.

I hate weapons and powerups that bob up and down while spinning, waiting to be picked up. It makes the game feel unrealistic and gumby. The Farcry 'weapon-lying-still-on-the-ground' approach is much better and makes you feel like you're part of the world. But I guess since Quake 4 is aimed at the masses/common-denominators, they have to really point out the weapons for the newbies to stay interested. LOOK SHINY! Such a shame :/
Also, as an id fan, I'm not really looking forward to Quake 4. I never really liked Quake 3's gameplay (RA3 was ok) as I (like I mentioned above) didn't feel like I was part of the world. I've also had enough of the railgun, rocketlauncher, generic-blasters, etc. That sort of complete and utter re-use of weapons is what turned me off the Unreal sequels. Looks nice, I miss the days of a real deathmatch... better feel like quake otherwise I get so mad! Also I don't know how to take Fatal1ty... it's cool that he's like the best player etc... But they are naming computer gear after him etc... I guess we are really going into mainstream with gaming (Michael Jordan, Tiger Woody etc... branded things). Quake Deathmatch isnt about realism, far from it. It is deep down an arcade game, like Ghost n Goblins and Pac-Man. WTF Pac-Man is so unrealistic some wierd chompy thing eating ghosts, for starters ghosts by definition are corpreal so they cant be interacted with by real stuff. Then again it was and still is a fun game. Quake Deathmatch is about your skill vs's another. Everything in the game is made for that purpose. Why make guns harder to see by putting them on the ground when that isnt what the game is about. If you want realism then your looking forward to the wrong game. Go play Fear, that is closer to what you want. |

The screenies n vids look kinda cool... but i'll wait till the game/games are out AND I have hardware decent enough to run it smooth (so in a few years!!!) till I make up my mind about it.
I totally agree with the quaker's lack of realism in games sentiment. I want less realism, higher, longer rocket jumps!, more insane push on hitscan weapons!, greater armour & superhealth protection!, faster strafe jumping & more trick moves!@#!@#! But until then... I'll just play Quake. |

This is why Q3 was good. It's not SUPPOSED to feel real. This also why games like CS fail miserably. They attempt to be real, but lack aspects or a good implementation of aspects which I feel are required to make a game feel real - things like dodging, rolling, accurate weapon sway/aim inaccuracy, and damage systems. CS will always be s*** while it uses a hit point system. Q4 looks like it's gonna run about the same speed as Q3 ran when it came out. I can remember playing that at Big Day In with a Riva 128, and many others with Voodoo 2s. Ah, those people with GeForce DDRs, they were the envy... |

and jump pads make it feel real. I don't like jump-pads either :) My e-heart sank when I saw them in the Q4 vids. Bring back the Quake LIFTS! There was nothing quite like in Quake where you'd hear chains and miscellaneous metal rubbing while a lift/door/wall was being activated. Very atmospheric.
