3DActionPlanet.com have another one of those "future of FPS gaming" type articles up. That's the first part, which is basically just a very quick summary of the last 10 years. Part Two is a bit more interesting, featuring some chatting with Warren Spector from ION Storm.

Interestingly (for me anyway), Spector starts out with the following quote:
I don't think there are any limits to first-person design other than the creativity of the people making the games. At one level, the technology is still advancing at a pretty prodigious rate and that will inevitably drive new kinds of gameplay. But at another, more significant level, we've only just begun to explore what you can do when you allow players to see virtual worlds through their own virtual eyes.
Having a quick flashback to some discussion about RTS games last week - this is something that I feel is perfectly true.

For most people, playing games is a form of escapism - getting out of your normal life into a virtual one. The first person perspective is as close to real life as you can get, and its only going to get closer. Movies like Strange Days and books like Snow Crash scratch the surface of what might be possible. If anyone can get us there, it will be Carmack (and id).

Strange days is a totally j0r movie, I remember sneaking into the cinema cause it was R rated and I was too young (forget how young heh) which just made it even better =p

I wish I could find the divx to download.. err I mean the DVD to purchase.
