If you're unfamiliar with Plex (http://www.plexapp.com/) It's based off the XBMC code and built with macs in mind but with a PC version on the way. The cool thing is Plex 9 shares your Library (with all metadata etc.) with all your other devices including iPhone/iPad etc.

This week has been a big one for TV-related announcements. Apple annouced their revamped Apple TV, and Boxee was quick to reply with their own thoughts on the matter. It turns out that now is the perfect time for us to explain our vision for the future of Plex and television as well.

Today, Plex requires that you have a Mac connected to your TV. As sexy as they are, a Mac Mini is $699. And let’s face it, you probably have a few televisions, so it becomes an expensive proposition to Plex-ify your house, especially now that you can stream your library all over with Plex/Nine.

We’re working with LG Electronics (the second largest TV manufacturer in the world) to integrate the Plex platform into their 2011 lineup of Netcast™ connected TVs and Blu-ray devices. So early next year, when you buy an LG Netcast™ TV or Blu-ray player, you will have Plex functionality built-in. Specifically, it will connect to a cloud version of the Plex platform for online content, and, if you happen to have a Plex Media Server running anywhere in your house (after all, who doesn’t have a computer in their house?), you can access your local and online content, in a rich interface, with full metadata.

Third-party developers and owners of content have the ability to develop Plex plug-ins, which will then be available to all Plex users across all devices. Currently, there are nearly 200 plug-ins available through Plex’s service including iTunes, Netflix, CNN, Revision3, YouTube, and many others. Plex for OS X is downloadable for free, with a Windows version to be available later this year. For more information, please visit www.plexapp.com.

good to here plex is coming out for a PC version.. i saw it run on a mac and it looked much better then xbmc

I really liked Boxee though I didn't use tuners as I have a Foxtel iQ2. Only problem with it was it was still newish and installing and making work could be a bitch under linux vs how it should be. This looks kind of cool, might check the PC version out.

will plex use internet bandwidth or does it do something magic with tv/radio waves?

The new plex is pretty cool, quite a lot of new content on it and it recognises everyhing you have by adding pictures themes etc

Nice find. I'm looking forward to plex coming to PC to stream to the iphone & hoping it'll automatically transcode WMV9 video. Does any of the other media center software out there does that already?

plex is awesome, it is hella handy having an actual PC connected to the TV though
playing *any* kind of file you throw at it, playing games onto the screen etc
