BUT WAIT.. theres more punkbuster will have capabilities to cater for quake3.. but right now its in beta stages and only supports half-life.. but it will soon be able to be used on quake servers..

I've had a look at it, but some its claims are kinda wild. I'm waiting for some real-world admins to use it and get some feedback out there (other then on their forum *G*)

I have a problem with a unknown company making a product that is going to scan my hardrive, my packets, and my active program list, with the ability to send that information to a third party server.


and the second problem is if its only scanning for known file names, will they ban the use of ICQ, mIRC, rogerwilco, firewall programs running in the background. Because the simplist way of getting around the program name checking parts of it is to rename the program to something that would be uber common for a gamer to want to run in the background.

I think they are thinking near the right road. But it isnt quite there. I emailed them and there only answer for the file scanning is that you have to trust them ... I dont like trusting people I dont know. They will need to get a whole heap more specific before a lot of people will be able to easly trust them.

Besides, I figure if they can decompile the quake3/halflife exe they can decompile and make there own server side program that will let them cheat like poofs ...

The cheats in q3 are a joke ...

The aim bot is the only cheat that might be worth trying out ... but its only workable on a uber low ping account, and its pretty obvious. Just change games if its a problem ....

I have rarly realy had a problem with botting, its quite often obvious if a half decent player gets a aimbot ...

the MOS server uses it.. suppose to be good

Maybe you should get their IP - trace it to their house, then get Taipan to unleash one of his favourite heavy artillery shells on their arse!!! That would surely deter cheating. I would never use anything that scans my hardrive, especially if the creator says "just trust us..." OMFG as if you would!!

well it prolly scans you're HD to look for cheats... and if it was some big bs conspiracy why would they actually say it scans you're hd.. wouldn't they like not tell you bout it so you'd fall for their master scheme?...

Yeah I can accept that the original makers won't use it for evil, but what if it falls into the wrong hands? Some tricky admin somewhere modifies it a bit and uses it to f*** with ppl's machines. I don't like the idea....

and since u guys r too lazy/busy/cbf y not? i have seen a lot of cheats. and some like spiked models r a great advantage without being too obvious.

i cant wait till valve/cs team do something to eliminate a lot of cheats.

they run 2 servers, and they listen to the players (anyone remember the stats s*** awhile back, they went and made a alternate scoring system)

Heh, I actually checked out the Punkbuster program a few days before this thread was even posted, but anyway :)

I've probably played roughly 50% Q3A and 50% Counter-Strike over the last 6 months, so I know a bit about both of them.

Cheating isn't a huge problem in Q3A at the moment, probably due to the fact that it isn't the 'in' game - Counter-Strike is, and that's the prime reason its the target of all the 'hackers' out there.

Yes, the majority of the QGL admin are primarily Quake players, but that doesn't mean we *dont care* about Counter-Strike.

Those who've been around a while may recall in the early days of Counter-strike (and Q3A) we had a few online server administrators. People whinged so much that we decided to simply get rid of RCON completely.

As usual, we listen carefully to all player viewpoints and come to what we consider the best decision; in this case, we felt removing server admin access was the best thing to do.

+ does not ban u from any servers it just deletes the cheat and says ur name that u r cheating

cs will always be full of cheats cause the hl engine blows camels and it doesn't reward skills like movement half as much as quake 3, so anyone using a bot is fairly difficult to detect even in chasecam

It doesnt delete the file it bans them from joining ... read the faq again.

Secondly if the writers of the cheaty file change the name of the program from CHEATYSPIKEDMODLESFORCSSOYOUWILLWINHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.exe to mirc.exe ? What then ban the use of mirc while playing online games ?

Howbout changing MAKEWALLSSEETHOUGHSOYOUKNOWWHEREc***SARE.exe to icq.exe ... ban icq ?

How about changing AUTOBOTHEADSHOTCRACKEDEXEPROGRAM.exe to firewall.exe

Not only that but the farker scanns your harddrive looking for cheats .... Including banned files ...

On top of that the whole point of getting lots of ram, and a good computer is to stop your hard drive accessing at any point during the game ... not to scan it for me ...

what else can I think off in my f***ed up brain moments ...

oh yeah ... if they are releasing the server and the client, why would it be impossible to cheat that program ... sit inbetween your client, and the server ... ignoring what your client says ... and telling the server nothing too see here ...


Oh yeah and lastly ... This program only makes it more difficult for new gamers to get online and playing. The whole point with games is to make the mass market able to play and have fun. Not just the people who can read the manual on the server to see what kind of protection it has ...

If we want cheat free games, you are going to have to nag the people who make the games, and convince them to patch the game. Counter strike is the saddest of any game I can remember with its prolific cheating.

Im all for anti cheating ... But untill it is tested and proven I wouldnt like to be forced into using it ...

i think someone should remake CS.

make it FASTER loading(slowed down, because it checks "EVERY" file in your model file, and map folder to see if different.)

make it like beta 3!(except pistol firing) fast running with knife, plant bomb ANYWHERE, and the guns from every beta (EXCEPT duals because they suck!), and leave colt with scope.
new HL taken OUT!. NO CD KEY to go through won.(its free)

the recoil is like in beta 4.
and the models are from beta 7.

i think it would be a great imporvement on the CS team if they did this.

but surely if this program scans your harddrives you could just run the cheaty programs off another computer unless it scans them as well

first of all for those ppl who are worried bout this thing. If u think its s*** casue it scans ur hdd???...well what program wouldnt how the hell are they supposed to do it then, send them a questionaire?!?!?! pffft.
i just think the proggy scans ur hdd, so its like a local thing and no outside user has any contact wif it.
