Yo,
So our Motorola modem got blasted in all that crazy storm activity the other week, and apparently the tap in the street (whatever that is). Optus tech came out the next day, replaced the modem and the tap and all was dandy. I have noticed however, that since that work was done, I can't seem to crack 700KB/Sec, where previously I was well over 2MB/Sec What's the best way for me to diagnose what's going on ? |

A cable tap is the point where a cable drop connects to the service line... the tap might be up a pole or in a pedestal on the ground. From the tap the drop runs to your home, either in the air or underground.

Maybe my lines have been fried all along...I barely crack the 200kb/sec ever...do you need to live close by a service provider to get the 2mb/sec speeds?

you have a splitter for pay tv right? it could be something to do with splitter configuration if that has changed at all or if more splitters have been added.

What d[o_0]b said was spot on re what a Tap is. Call tech support and let them know whats going on. I'd say there is more wrong than just the Tap and modem if your performance has dropped off so much. A signal booster may be up the s*** downstream from you or something like that.

Hey i keep getting logged out.
I think im a cable expert. Are you on a special High Speed service ? The channel your using might be a problem. you can change your Channel in the Modem Config in your browser. 561Mhz 567MHz, 573MHz, 579MHz try some of those. type 192.168.100.1 to check modem post ur signal stuff.. mine: Frequency 561000000 Hz (561Mhz) Signal To Noise Ratio 40.0 dB Power Level 4.0 dBmV Upstream Value Channel ID 1 Frequency 22900000 Hz Power 46.5 dBmV last edited by FaceMan at 21:51:27 01/Dec/08 |

I am experiencing constant random drop outs with optus cable atm.. Internet will just go down then modem cant reconnect.
Are they experiencing ddos attacks atm or something? (A rumour i heard). last edited by JakeG at 23:13:40 01/Dec/08 |

That seems ok.
Try a different Frequency. Cable is a shared bandwith thing. the more users the less performance. You will prolly get better performance from a different frequency. Are you using USB ? USB is slower than Ethernet. You could also try taking your modem/comp to another Optus cable users house and see what you get. |

Can't change the frequency, it just reverts back to the default, no matter how I save it, etc

9487 down
Frighteningly similar Can't get anywhere near that actually downloading anything though, I have tried the most popular speedy servers and can't crack 300KB Apple / Microsoft / My own Pipe DS - nothing will break that 500KB/sec mark |
