Topic: The best rechargeable batteries

I purchased the green energiser ones once and one of the batteries exploded in the recharger. So I have sort of been turned off them.

However I find that we eat through batteries quickly now with digital cameras and wiimotes.

So what are the best rechargeable batteries to get?

No idea, but for the wiimotes I'd get some of the rechargable battery packs designed for the Wii - mine cost $24.95 each and are the best thing EVER (ya srsly).

Amazing how quickly and excellently they came out with various eeasy to charge battery packs for the wiimote, and yet nobody has ever invented that for a normal remote control

I use so many of the green energizer ones pretty much exclusively and never had a problem? Sure you didn't plug them in incorrectly or mix battery types? What charger did you use?

As is obvious, try to stick to AA batteries wherever possible due to the increased energy storage capacity. I find AAA ones deplete very quickly when we use them on the Wii .. usually at the worst possible time.

On several of the Wii recharge stations I've used, for some f***ed up reason they didn't take into account the tiny extra space needed for the wrist-strap when you put the Wiimote on the base. So I've either had to remove the wrist-strap when I've wanted to recharge, or force the damn controller in the station.

Also some Wii rechargers won't work if you have the console off. Defeats the purpose, idiots. (And no, I'm not turning WiiConnect or whatever on, it nuked my brother's Wii due to overheating)

Ticman, our wiimotes are either in a skin or a wiizapper. By all accounts it would be useless for us

parabol: It was the recharge pack that we got and we only used the energizer batteries with the energiser re charger. Have you used them in cameras?

Some Wii recharge stations come with AAA batteries and AAA adapter, replacing the original battery cover of the Wiimote.

Except the box cover is so generic that you don't find out until after you've bought it and taken it home. AAA + Wiimote ftl.

I have cut holes into my wiimote condoms so the charger plug fits :/ No big deal, the rubber is tough.

Well the rechargers I got plug into the wiimote like a battery pack and they have a tiny power connector hole on the outside that you plug the power cable into which feeds into a USB port - so it's not one of those type that sits in a recharging cradle.

i dont bother with the skins, as i much prefer having my wii remotes charged and ready to go all the time

i got the nice usb docking station which holds the wii and the controllers

would have cost me a fortune in batteries without it!

Any one care to talk brands?

Does the docking station come with batteries?

I could also need them for cameras and stuff and would like opinions on which are better and how long they usually last

I'd love to, but most of the stations I've seen were generic with very little writing on them. They were still not that cheap (at least $20-30), due to the fact that they are ... white. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but JBHifi/EB/etc seemed like the logical place to look.

And yeah they usually come with no-name rechargeable batteries, which I'd probably trust not that much.

brands of batteries & batteries used in docking stations. Not necessarily the brand of docking stations.

I am thinking we might skip the docking station and go with rechargeables with recharger. But want them to be used in cameras as well as the Wiimotes

Can only suggest 'popular' brands like Energizer, etc but since they blew up on you I have no idea. Maybe a Dickies/Tandy/Jaycar could offer some good advice, I'd say Jaycar might be the best place since they are more enthusiast/hobby and probably won't push the more expensive options like Dickies/Tandy.

I bought some "Inca" batteries from harvey norman that also came with a charger and holy s*** they're awesome. Another brand I love that last for ages in my camera + flash are "powerbase". Just stay the hell away from the DSE orange ones, I got some of them and on a full charge didn't seem to last very long in my flash at all, used it for maybe 10 minutes, left for a week came back and they were flat and no I didn't leave it on. I can leave these powerbase things in my camera for over a month and they're still charged when I come to use it.

if it matters the power base ones are 2500mah I don't remember what the inca ones were I forgot where I put them :(

I can't remember whether they're Eveready/Energizer, but they're silver with a blue stripe and they're called E2 lithiums or something like that.. really good for cameras. When I first bought my camera before going away on a holiday I just bought normal batteries and they were dead within about 10 minutes of being used. These e2 ones last aaaages, they're especially for things like cameras etc so they last a long time

I have two of those and they seem fine to me.

Out of the various brands I have and rotate (Energizer, Duracell, DSE, Fuji and something else) the Energizer's are the crap ones.

I basically buy different ones so they don't get mixed up and out of their 'pairs'.

The Wii remotes are ridiculous with battery consumption. They chew through the power even when they're not being used. I put fully charged batteries in my remotes, don't use them for a few days, and they've already lost about 1/3 power.

adventures in rechargeable batteries

All rechargeable battery manufacturers love to boast about their product's current capacity (mAh). But there is a dirty little secret that they don't want you to hear: self-discharge rate. Simply put: a fully charged NiCd of NiMH cell will gradually lose its stored energy over time. Technical papers I have researched typically put the self-discharge rate at 10-20% per month for NiCd cells, and 20-30% per month for NiMH cells. This kind of self-discharge rate is usually acceptable in applications such as digital cameras.

I bought 8 of those Energizer 2500mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries over one year ago. At first, I was very happy about the large current capacity offered by those batteries. But within a few months, I started to notice that they die very quickly in my digital camera. In fact, a set of Sony 2000mAh NiMH batteries I bought one year earlier seems to last much longer when used in the same camera

NiMh batteries drain even when not being used. They operate best and last the longest when they are being constantly used in high drain devices.

Photography people recommend teh new Sanyo batteries called 'Eneloop'. Still a NiMh battery but retain their charge for much longer than standard NiMh.

Check them out here:

god every time i talk to my grandfather he cannot stop raving about his sanyo rechargeable batteries, so they must be good.

He had DSE ones before which died and discharged terribly fast, and he tried the Green ever ready ones??? i think and wre also s***.

Apparently he has yet to recharge his sanyo ones after many uses of his camera, so he is chuffed and likes to tell me about it.
