this isnt my computer but its one that ive been using (i aquired it from a friend who moved overseas)

so anyway it has some thermaltake fan (will find out the model if it helps) which has this knob that adjusts the fan speed. (the knob is on a metal plate thing which is connected to the fan by wires)

For reasons that dont need to be understood, the wires are now very loose not very well connected. So now the fan is just going full ball and i cant do anything about it. Is there anyway to "flick" a switch and tell it not to use variable fan speed and just go to the lowest speed (which is the speed i use all the time anyway).

PS: a few days ago i stripped the wires that was connecting the fan to the knob and reattached it firmly, that worked well until now when the "min" speed is like middle speed and it wont go any lower, so then i fiddled wiht it more and totally f***ed it. ITS SO LOUD. HELP! :(

connect the wires together so it's on full speed all the time and turn on q-fan in the bios?

edit: that is assuming you even have q-fan or something similar

f***in' 8800's are loud :(

Unless you feel like trying to repair it yourself I'm not sure if there's any other ways you can slow the fan speed.

nah i dont have this thing that you call a q fan. hmm

I just went into the BIOS to see if I could fiddle. No dice. The only thing remotely in the ballpark is the hardware monitor which showed me the fan speed, but it was all greyed out and you cant select it.
