At one point he says something to the effect of, "when a scientologist drives by an accident, we have to stop, because we know we're the only ones who can help". Um, or feel free to call 911. Because being trapped under a car and then seeing Tom Cruise run up is just about the most horrible mental image I've ever had. I would seriously just fake my own death at that point. rofl |

For me this just proves how weak minded and stupid people in Holywood are. Most dumb cults or religions will offer some kind of believable sides to their history or atleast give a reason why they have to do the ridiculous things they do, but scientology just offers a science fiction novel which you're supposed to believe is genuine history and then take a large amount of money from you. Sounds like a good deal to me. When you really think about it, it's just like every other religion except with the ridiculous/smarmy meters turned up to x10. Also - rofl at crazy Cruise. |

Imo, it's just a way for these people to manage their patriarchal anger and fear - Tom Cruise has massive daddy issues.
Xenu is the big, scary, dominant father figure and thetans (the bad things in themselves the Scientologists are trying to get rid of) are all the things "Xenu" said and did that traumatised them as kids. That's why they think they can do everything, and help people, better than any doctor or administrative figure; because daddy got it all wrong. |

What's the difference between someone that believes in Scientology and someone that believes in, say, Christianity? That's sort of what I was saying. You're pretty gullable to believe either, however most of what Christianity practices is beneficial to a person in some way. Not only (judging by Tom Cruise) does it seem that Scientology is bad for someone's mental state, but they basically just take people's money. |

Came across this gem of a quote the other day:
Religion easily has the best bulls*** story of all time. Think about it. Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky. Who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer, and burn, and scream, until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you. He loves you and he needs money. |

I think the most significant difference is very few people have been murdered because of scientology and there is yet to be a scientology related war.. but give it time, it is competing with nearly 2000 years of christian history it's unfair to compare the two.

Yeah you cant compare them so why even mention it? Your looking at a 2000 year old internationally recognised religion, and an american cult established in the 50's and largely based on science fiction and the almighty dollar. Xenu is the big, scary, dominant father figure and thetans (the bad things in themselves the Scientologists are trying to get rid of) are all the things "Xenu" said and did that traumatised them as kids. No, no, no. One episode revealed to those who reach OT level III is the story of Xenu (sometimes Xemu), introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy." According to this story, 75 million years ago Xenu brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together, stuck to the bodies of the living and continue to do this today. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans," and advanced-level Scientologists place considerable emphasis on isolating these alien souls and neutralizing their ill effects. From : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology So thetan is just the scientology term for the spirit that every person has/is, as apposed to the negative body thetan. And the drive to do better is largely aquired from Budists karma beliefs. No, im not a scientology believer, nor do I think its any way legitimate - I just did some reading this morning attempting to make any sense out of the 10 minutes of Tom Cruis' utter dribble that Id just subjected myself to. |

I cant watch his s*** movies let alone that crap. I have always found it odd that people worship something that has no proof at all. Why were all these signs of god thousands of years ago and where is he now? Besides a sever case of thrush anyone come across a burning bush that was not burnt? How about seeing seas parted by some c*** with a staff? Seen anyone turn water into wine?

trog: i would say the big difference (to me atleast) between christianity and scientology is that christianity is more embedded into the roots of society, we got it spoon fed to us since we were little, It's harder to defy its teachings in that regard. It's not exactly to do with which religions' flying spaghetti monster is more real. Hardcore nutjob christians i can forgive a little for not using their brain because they dont know any better.
But scientology is a new thing people saw form in the 60s. It goes around taking peoples money, its based on the most far fetched science fiction theology, has a nut job as an ambassador and was created by an even bigger nut job. All of its roots can be accounted for, and they all point to fraudsters. As far as im concerned your out of your mind if you join up with that and can't possibly claim to possess both halves of your brain. for gods sake, that e-meter thing they use is just some oldschool voltmeter. How retarded would you have to be if you pay hunders of dollars to listen to some unqualified, brainwashed nutjob "counsel" you while your holding onto two ends of a modified peice of electrical equiptment. |

It's not exactly to do with which religions' flying spaghetti monster is more real.I dunno, I guess my point was people in glass houses (like christians, though I'm not saying anyone here is one) shouldn't throw bricks - ie, while its fun to pay out on Cruise, we shouldn't forget the frankly depressing s*** that "regular" religious people are doing on a daily basis and in much greater volume. and was created by an even bigger nut job.I think Hubbard was one smart dude! It's quite probable that he was just a keen student of human nature, as evident in the following quote: "I’d like to start a religion. That’s where the money is." - L. Ron Hubbard to Lloyd Eshbach, in 1949 Of course, it's just as possible he was stark raving mad. |

funny story i actually worked with a guy whos like a third or fourth nephew to L ron hubbard. apparently, alot of them imigrated to aus and some stayed in ireland. L ron was part of the irish bunch so theres no real connection.
Yea, i see your point now trog, i agree. But him being intellegent...hmm well credentially he is, he made alot from nothing. but he did it to pretty gullible people... You remember that little cult where they ended up killing everyone? i think scientology has alot in common with that, just more organised and less mass suiciding :D. same principles, one eccentric with thousands of sheep at his feet. jonestown |

I just watched the original... and seriously what the f*** is everyone going on about? I am by no means religious, nor do I necessarily support Scientology, or suggesting people live their lives according to any one set of doctrine regardless of its "religiousness".
Whether Jesus was really the son of god or not, Western cultures are largely based off the teachings of the Bible (the Jewish books and Christian versions), and at the very least it tries to push that you should be nice to people and love everyone and forgive people for their mistakes... unfortunately that's not what people always do. Come Scientology... I read a bit on wiki a while back because of all the ranting people did about it, and I really had no idea what it was about. As far as I can tell, and I could slightly understand Tom Cruise saying this in the vid, it wants the best for people and tries to promote positivity and all that. I guess it's a damn shame if they really are scamming people for money, but for the average Joe who keeps his wallet tightly secured to his boxer shorts, you should support the general attitude of the "religion". People are calling Tom Cruise a nutjob? WTF? He seemed high on life to me... at times I was wtf m8'ing what he was saying, but let's compare it to some other religious groups... (I just spent a few minutes trying to find an example on youtube) I'm sure everyone here can picture those massive Christian services where everyone is crying and wailing and the minister walks around, making people pass out or fall down by putting his hand on their foreheads... srsly. What about that fkn nut family who thinks the USA is all going to hell because they "let fags in the army". Also, aren't Hindus are adamant about reincarnation? And isn't there a religion where it's ok to kill a woman if she cheats on you?! All people who take religion too far a loopy, but I think most religions' hearts are in the right place, including Scientology. |

And one other thing, although Christianity has more history, so what? Other religions have even MORE history, does that make them more accurate? Just because something about a "god" has been around for thousands of years doesn't make it any more believable to me compared to some science fiction writer who crapped in a box 50 years ago.
ANYTHING is more believable than GODDDDDDDDDDDDD...... Aliens ftmfw!!! |

(spoiler: New Zealand scientist says we should seriously explore the theory that "the universe is a giant virtual reality simulation") and our form of 'knowledge and technology' is in fact the basis behind A.I. and that although one big poetic fear is AI will destroy us. could be actually what sets us free. guess thats why irony is humorous to us in real life (i mean our V life) |

scientology is internationally recognised, and its heavily heavily based on the almighty dollar - its just got 2000 more years of experience from taking money from people Youre response makes little sense. I said Christianity is an internationally recognised religion. Scientology isnt. Only a few countries recognise it as a church, but a lot of countries reconise it as a cult. Sure Christianity and namely Catholicism have had a significant history of money grabbing, but not the celebrity driven wealth/spotlight/influence/power ways of Scientology. PS love that Southpark Explanation. |

scientology has no doctrine, You don't really know what its all about until its too late. The way they operate and manipulate can be the same as alot of other religions at times, however, far more people respectivley have been destroyed by it during it's short life, both phsycologically and financially. It's an organisation that started primarily to take advantage of people in an unstable state of mind by a guy that has been on record admitting its a load of s***.
In tom cruises' defense (omg) I think its a bit unfair to have a vid going around with just him talking crap. He seems to be answering questions and If they want to make an interview, they should show the interview. Hmmm, Another thing. I always notice when tom cruise does interviews it looks like hes acting. he uses the same mannerisms and everything as all his characters in his movies. He's lost touch with reality, completely. He seems to operatate in some kind of imagination world where he thinks he can get by just spouting analogies and talking all gospel-ish, and over expressing himself at certain intervals of his monologue to make it look like hes reached a point. He's truly f***ed up.... |

Also, I would not be surprised at all if the catholic church pays out s*** loads of money to certain celebrities to thank gods in their speaches for awards and stuff. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you don't think Christianity is largely maintained by celebrities.

You've argued against yourself in two sentences. No. Maybe you dont understand the terms 'internationally', or 'religion'. Yes, thanks. Ive heard of the pope. I just havent seen the pope on the cover of New Weekly or Famous....hmmm....ever. For all those in the back, the key word in that sentance was 'celebrity'. |

Recognised internationally - recognised in more than one nation
A lot of people, like me, would argue that the Pope is a celebrity, and probably the same people, like me, would argue that he is way too powerful (although with good intentions at heart for the most part). |

ce·leb·ri·ty (sə-lĕb'rĭ-tē) pronunciation
n., pl. -ties. 1. A famous person. 2. Renown; fame. I think its clear you don't have to be on the cover of some stupid women's magazine to be a celebrity |

I agree completely that the Pope has way too much power, I would however put him into the category of 'public figure' rather than celebrity.

Also, I would not be surprised at all if the catholic church pays out s*** loads of money to certain celebrities to thank gods in their speaches for awards and stuff. You're absolutely kidding yourself if you don't think Christianity is largely maintained by celebrities.I rofl'd |

A lot of people, like me, would argue that the Pope is a celebrity, and probably the same people, like me, would argue that he is way too powerful (although with good intentions at heart for the most part). The POSITION of the pope is widely recogonised, but I couldn't for the life of me remember his name, or what he looks like (other than old man in white robe). Using trogs definition : "1. A famous person." The pope as a person is not famous, its just his position. |

Pope Benedict. I didn't look that up so I will look foolish if I am wrong. But he is a well known person. I don't know if celebrity is the right term.
Actually I don't know what a celebrity is. Some people on those 'celebrity' game shows seem to only be known for appearing on celebrity game shows.... |

Even if you don't know the pope's name, you would have to be a complete shut-in to not know the names and faces of dozens of celebrities that actively promote Christianity (even if you didn't realise it). Here's a hint, a whole bunch of them are world leaders.

Talking about this at work today. Apparently LRon concocted the whole Scientology thing as a Tax Dodge with the bonus being that he could rip off weakminded wealthy schmo's. Maybe thats all these ppl (including the Cruiser) are doing just to save alot of cash. I mean who cares if you look like a bag of cocks if you are saving millions of dollars?? Praise Xenu!!! |

Surely at some point self respect is worth more than money? I feel sorry for Katie Holmes. Did she know what she was getting into? Now she's the freakish subservient wife of a cult leader. |

I went to 'Church' (Sunday School) till I was 12, and Church till I was 14 and Boys Brigade (Think Scouts) till I was 17.
No-one (well maybe 1) are as Crazy as Tom Cruze. I went because Mum did and I've actually read (a few versions of) the Bible through a few times over. It's a pretty interesting book. It's also fun when you meet churchies at a party, they say something stupid and you can correct them 1, because they're stupid and chances are whatever they're saying isn't real and 2. You can say where in the Bible they would be wrong, if it were all real. /not religious. //not ever going to go back. |

Since this little vid of Tom's hit the street so to speak I have done a s*** load of reading about Scientology. I was pretty blown away by Tom arogance in places and what seemed to be a pretty weak grip on reality. Of course this is only my opinion and in the wash up that won't really count for much.
I watched a number of video's covering all kinds of crap from interviews to outright harassment of critics of the COS. I was amazed that they can actually get away with the s*** they do. They seem to be to be totaly unhinged when it comes to people questionign their beliefs and casting dispersions on their cult. I know it's not much and it may seem like over reacting to some people. But from here on out I will never knowingly buy, copy, rent or even recomend anything that has a scientologist in it. Call it my own personal little boycott but I am sure as hell not going to put my cash into the hands of these people. Now there are peobably a dozen things out there I could find more reasonable reasons to boycott before this. However the COS thing has really struck a nerve with me, why you ask? Well I am not entirely sure. This of course means no more Simpsons for me as Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart) is one and no more listening to Kate Ceberano (no great loss) as she is one aswell. Anyway I know it might seem silly and over the top to some of you but f*** it they totaly diggust me. |

LOL nah I guess not.
Actually a blanket boycott of everything that has some connection to Scientology is going to be pretty damn hard to maintain. For example I just read that James Packer is one so if thats the case how much of Australias media does he have a stake in? I think I am screwed... I might have to down size the boycott to something more realistic like boycotting the obvious crap. |

anon are going out pretty hardcore, be interesting to see how serious they are about it and how long they are willing to keep it up.
http://www.lightpostawareness.com/ They are pwning COS websites pretty hard as you can from in the link above, its not just 1 site, they have cained most of them and they have been down for most of if not the entire day. I am keen to see how this develops as I have seen first hand how scientology can destroy people and ruin families. |

I don't know what the hell he is on about.
If I had to bet, I'd put my money down that Tom Cruise is Bipolar. His oprah moments, his depression moments, rapid cycling of emotional state occasionally. He has such loosely associated/tangential sentence structure that makes little sense alot of the time, evidence of thought blocking.. Starts off towards a point, thought blocks and goes off on an incomplete tangent to the start of his sentences and ends it typically with 'you just know... like whatever.. etc. etc.' He seems pretty elevated and grandiose. Then again, I also think anybody who believes in Scientology has some underlying problem. |

I hope this anon thing takes off, i'm considering turning up at the Brisbane one (hasn't been mentioned there is one but all the other state capitals are, so I assume?) just to see what it's like. Certainly could gather momentum, but then unlikely to be bigger than Chocolate Rain...

I'd rather they took down Christianity first. With well over 2000yrs of brainwashing the masses even anon could not accomplish that with DDoS and protests. But its the thought that counts. Religion had its time in the past to control the masses but today it seems to hinder our progress as a united global race. Humanity is destined to fail if the average Joe Blo can't get a grip of his or her own life without needing to grasp at fictional characters to complete oneself or find meaning in their own lives. Had a good quote from Manly P. Hall on religion but can't remember what book it was in. Something about religion being ok if it furthers development without f***ing with others s***. Too many public holiday beers. |

Hopefully this kerfuffle with scientology can help western democracies come to terms with what makes a religion, what makes it deserving of special treatment under our laws, and adjust laws to ensure that organisations or even individual fanatics can not abuse the legal system to take advantage of our tollerant societies.
There's been some interesting stuff going on in Canada at the moment, with complaints to the Alberta Human Rights commission. Check out the writeup as well as the interrogation of Ezra Levant here. Here's his awesome opening statement: last edited by natslovR at 22:47:02 28/Jan/08 |

A video was leaked of Tom Cruise speaking about scientology. He comes across as totally crazy, ranting and raving about all sorts of nonsense.
Scientology get pissed and sic their lawyers onto sites which are hosting the video. Of course this never will work because for every video taken down, someone else will upload it somewhere else. Scientology angers communities of people on the internet because we see it as damaging free speech. That was the straw that broke the camel's back - so to speak Here is some of the s*** that scientology has pulled in the past: http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/ They have infiltrated their members into high ranking government positions and intelligence organisations. They use overwhelming legal power to silence anybody who opposes them. They use their contacts in government to get tax free status for their "religion" - although several European countries have denied their status, saying that they are a money-making organisation and not a valid church, religion or charity. The founder of scientology, L R Hubbard, even admitted - "if you want to make money - start a religion." He was sent to jail for 4 years found guilty of fraud.. he had stolen over $200 MILLION from the church. Here is how they treat their critics: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...81853779690652 This BBC reporter wants to find out more about scientology. A guy with his own camera crew turns up at the reporters hotel at midnight - even though he told nobody where he was staying. They send several people to follow him and film him 24/7 and everywhere he goes there are cars with blacked out windows following him. They also have intelligence files on their critics including personal information about their critics. Their (ex) leader, Ron Hubbard called this the "Fair Game" policy - google it for more info! A few more examples of how scientology treat their critics/protestors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou82SuPR03o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xn7cNdtqwU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocw90W44Boc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EYS7SpFTEI This is a REALLY good one: http://youtube.com/watch?v=w9b_1Wpd7RU Guy is filming through a fence Scientology guy CREEPS up right behind him Guy finished filming and steps back Scientology guy then starts saying that he "aggressively barged into me" Scientology guy calls police Scientology guy complains about "chest pain" from the bumping These people are actually TRAINED in how to intimidate you and incite you to get mad at them: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Secrets/TR/critique.html There are several forums and websites dedicated to ex-scientologists who have left the church. They are often followed, intimidated, threatened legally, framed for crimes etc. If they were born into the religion, they are usually cut off from the rest of their family. We believe scientology is an evil, for-profit cult which likes to hide behind a "religious" banner. Several countries such as Germany, oppose scientology and agree with us that it is a profit-making organisation and nothing more. The church follows a strict hierarchy and to go from being a newly recruited scientologist to a higher-ranking member COSTS hundreds of thousands of dollars. Their reading materials cost around $300 each and CDs of their founder speaking are sold for $900. It is only when you get higher up in the church you are allowed to find out their "secrets" - such as Lord Xenu, the aliens, spaceships, volcanoes etc.. it's all a bit crazy! A church would give you a bible for free A mosque would give you a koran for free No proper religion would CHARGE YOU MONEY for you to find out more about them. You could talk to a priest about anything, ask any questions you want and they will answer. If you ask a scientologist about their beliefs, they will deny it, then start to intimidate you, take your photo and put you on a watch list. If you want to help, have a look at: http://partyvan.info/index.php/Project_Chanology On February 10th, there are co-ordinated raids happening at almost every scientology centre in the world. Let me know where you're at and I'll find a raid close to you - or you can look it up yourself in the link above. We are trying to raise awareness and change the public perception of scientology. Many people just think it's a harmless, wacky religion that the celebrities have made trendy. However, they don't realise the dark secrets and tactics used by the church to silence their critics. One really important thing you can do it WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVE. A letter or a phone call says a LOT. If enough people call up - something has to happen. There are loads of posters and promotional materials on the site above (partyvan.info) - print em out, put them in public places. Start a chain email. Let your friends know. Send them links to the youtube videos. The more people you inform, the better! That should help clear things up |

Good post ama
I have spent a huge amount of time watching video's and reading over the past couple of weeks on the COS or as I call it the Cult of Scientology. These guys are rabid dogs when it comes to stamping out any form of criticism. The legnths they will go to is amazing and I honestly believe if they had the chance they would just knock people off ala Stalin or Nazi style. Now as much as I would like to see this cult get a good kick in the ass. I have a real problem with us the general public doing what we accuse them of. We shouldn't be shutting down their wedsites with DOS attacks thus removing their right to free speech. What we should be doing is raising awareness so people understand the COS better. In all honesty from everything I have viewed in video's the COS is their own worst enemy. The tactics they smploy to harass critics is so insanely over the top any normal person could help but see them as a pack of nuts. |

Yes there is a brisraid happening.
The current anon hosting is either getting attacked or the hosting has refused to let them reside there. I presume they will relocate pretty soon. I do have the bris info tho, PM me if you want it. |

It's just like one nation, by giving them all this free publicity you are giving them oxygen to expand.
Ignore the silly c***s imo. |
