2000 all the way...

I had nothing but troubles with dodgy drivers and dodgy software and patches and in the end the network service didn't start anymore..

Anyway back to 2000 now... it is much better for applications but if ur a hardcore gamer and the only thing ur worried about is framerate then go xp couse it's faster

I have 2000 and its given me the royal s***s, the only thing thats stopped me from reformatting and putting 98 SE back on is stubborness...

In fairness though, all of the problms seem to stem from one source: my bloody SB Live! VE card...

Now where did I leave my sledgehammer....?

personally i found 2k slightly more stable...

but XP owns for compatability so now i can play old school games and use several drivers that didn't seem to work in 2k.

well, i had XP for a little while on my bros comp, i like it, but it was an upgrade from 2000 which f***ed itself over after a little while, but i thought XP was pretty good, but after the f***up i installed a fresh Win2k, no probs whatsoever,
on this machine i upgraded win98 to 2k made networking better, and 2k is tons better than 98, but the f***ups have begun, i cant open HDD properties or folder properties... and some other small various crap

Moral of the story DONT UPGRADE it just f***s itself up over time, Well if you have a full XP install id say go for it, but dont upgrade whatever u do, i've learnt my lesson =D

if you have a standard sorta Nvidia, Athlon sorta setup I'd recommend XP - I've had both and much prefer XP for its compatibility (and oh my god i even like the new interface....well some parts of it).

dos 7.11 was a windows 95 -98 version of dos, windows 3.11 cant run on it.

millenium or xp

2k is too slow, while being stable. so if you suck at maintaining and tweaking your os, choose xp. millenium takes a while to get the hang of to set up properly, and still is prone to crashing much more than xp (of COURSE).

and maxe - ... no never mind.

Don't know... Millenium is one OS that I'd never recommend to anyone. But that's just my opinion, and it's not the topic of the thread.

I've been using XP for a few months now. I liked it. XP installation was a breeze. It even recognised all the components in my laptop. Xp also looks pretty slick. XP, after all, is the latest OS.

However, I have just got rid of XPs and installed win2k on all 3 of my computers. I think at the end of the day, Xp eats up a bit more CPU power than win2k. It is less stable than win2k. Win2k only gave me BSOD like 10 times in over 1 year of almost continuous usage (my computers are hardly ever turned off), yet XP gave me more BSOD in the few months that I've used it.

At the end of the day though, I think XP is still a pretty good OS. But in my opinion it still has some rough edges, and some softwares/hardwares aren't specifically designed for XP. (XP and 2k are actually not 100% compatible, in my experience. Just because something runs under 2k doesn't necessarily mean it runs just as well under XP). Personally I am sticking with Win2k for another year or two. After all, win2k, in my opinion, is about as stable as Microsoft product goes...

Be warned though... win2k's installation is relatively simple, but would be nowhere as simple as XP's. Make sure you grab all the drivers you can find before installing win2k.

Good luck. :)
