Who's seen it?

I went to the first session at our local cinema today.. Significantly better movie than the first one, one of the rare cases where a sequel is significantly better than the first film. More aliens, more carnage, no team up crap & no annoying black bitch stealing the limelight. Lots of nods to previous Aliens & Predator films too - some of which are fairly subtle, but make you go "oh hey..".

Not going to go into the level of acting or how good/bad the SFX were. It's simple. It's a movie about Aliens getting lose and killing lots of people, who try to escape. Toss a Predator into the mix and you've pretty much got this film in a nutshell. He's a badass too might I add.

In short - Forget the crap that was the first one, go see this and enjoy.

A somewhat twist at the end too which fans might enjoy :)

Yeah I saw it today. Its pretty awesome.
I thought all the SFX were superb, I never thought they looked fake or crap.
I was waiting to see a dog alien running around though, since there was a dog in the sewers. ah well.

Awesome movie!

"See Honey, there aren't any monsters...."
PS: I couldn't help but name the Predator "Mr Wolf"

"Do you see a sattelite in orbit that says - Dead Alien Storage?"

The first half was great. In the second half it completely lost the plot I thought, but I had very high expectations after seeing that first five minutes online.
It could have easily been a classic if they'd followed through on the promise of the first half of the movie and focused more on the Predator's mission instead of random carnage and no real direction for the characters. It really was good early on.

<spoilers>

The aliens were great, loved the bit where the Predalien bitchslapped the drone out of the way on their first kill. The hospital part was crazy and took it to a whole new level.

Then of course there was the Predator, what a badass. Highlight of the film has to be the fight in the sewer. Really, the action scenes with the Aliens vs the Predator were fantastic, especially when compared to the first movie. Exactly what I wanted to see. It's a shame they couldn't follow through on the human side of things and tie it all together more cohesively.

I think instead of nuking the site from orbit, they should have ramped up the action further with a full-on assault with the National Guard killing the Aliens, while the Predator was off completing his hunt by killing the Predalien. Then they could have set up a proper connection to the first films with evidence of the Aliens taken by Weyland/Yutani. It was all for nought given that they bombed the joint and made the acts of the Predator entirely pointless. It just got too cheesy as well which was a real shame.

I saw this last night and thought it was damn good compaired to the first one. It was exactly what i'd hopped for, Aliens and Predators just fighting and causing havok. T'was a bit dark in the cinema I saw it at but glad I payed to see it.

1~ *spoiler sorta parts i guess* ~!

That bit where the chick gets nailed to the wall with the rogue predator disk was f***ing hilarious and awesome. I dont think it was supposed to be but it was so unexpected and she died in such random way way that everyone laughed. My only gripe about the movie? The human using the super highly advanced, deadly plasma cannon like thing and it just happens to be used like a shotgun. Wtf they could of just GIVEN him a shotgun again cuz he was in a f***ing gun store. Oh and also I didnt understand who that woman was they threw at you in the last 10 seconds. guess you gotta read the comics for that.

The company that terraforms the planets in the Aliens movie is called Weyland Yutani - you can see the name on equipment boxes in the movie (the full length version with the turrets etc., not the hacked TV release)
Weyland was the guy they modelled Bishop after and was in the AvP movie, and they've just shown ms Yutani in this film.

Yeh WTF about getting an allocated f***ing seat?!?!?!? The session I went to was sold out, so I basically got my choice at later seats, but seriosly that's fkn gay.

think its only bcc cinemas that do it. experienced it today with national treasure, but there was hardly anyone in there so just sat wherever the f*** we wanted

Allocated seating is gay? Why. because you can't get the best seats?

Allocated seating is the best thing implemented. They just need to be stricter on throwing people out who are in others seats. If you want better seats, book earlier.

what made avp2 such a great movie was that unlike other action films where you expect some sappy ending with the main characters. everyone f***ing dies! a great example was that hot chick just getting taken out. awesome!

and predator is pretty much the best anti-hero ever.

Erm, that's exactly how allocated seating works. First to book gets first pick of the seats they want.

I want to see this at the cinema but if there's a slight chance I get stuck next to some screaming kids or people that like to have conversations thru movies because of allocated seating I'd rather wait for a DVD release.

I saw it last night and it f***ing sucked. My friends seemed to have thought it was great but I found it boring and repetitive. The action was haphazard, most of the plot made no sense, cheesy acting, irritating characters and I could go on. Most of all unlike Alien, it wasn't scary at all and unlike Predator there was no mystery and it was bloody boring.

^ this is totally correct Exis .. What a pile of s*** that movie was FFS ruined the aliens v predator thing even more and there was an extreme lack of action and the gheyest acting EVA!!!

when you go into an action film like avp, imo, you have to give it its own rating system, if you use the same criteria you would use when you critique some drama film then obviously you're going to be pretty disappointed.

i thought the first 20 mins was pretty snorefest, because they were trying to build characters. f*** that! do what youre suppose to be doing and start blowing s*** up. in depth characters aren't expected and directors know it.

Which is funny, because the character development they started building went right out the window the moment the Aliens got lose & s*** went nuts.

Guess they didn't want to have it being a full 90 minutes of people getting slaughtered or something

Haha, I haven't seen it yet, but I find it funny that people are criticising things like the plot and the acting and the character development. Why the f*** did you go to an Alien Vs Predator movie expecting those things in the first place? Go and watch the Water Horse or Enchanted or something similarly gay you fags. I just want to see Aliens and Predators own lots of s*** up, and from what I read here, that sounds like exactly what I'll get, so I'm happy.

Just saw it after rewatching the original flick. Totally bogus. It had its moment but jebus, Alien blood has been uber acid from day one. I think there are like 2 exams in the ENTIRE film that show this. and yes, its a big deal

LOL at that statement... Alien was scary because no one had ever seen the alien before that movie... and it was made 30 years ago. Can you seriously watch that movie these days and think "WOW THIS IS CUTTING EDGE SUSPENSE"?

No mystery about the predator? NO s*** SHERLOCK, this is the fourth movie with predators... what do you want them to do?

This movie did exactly what it should have done - aliens fighting predators with humans getting caught in the middle. It was gutsy and didn't have a typical Hollywood ending. Regardless of main characters or how hot people were or romance subplots, characters got pwned unexpectedly. Special effects for the most part were f***ign awesome - 99% puppetry and very, very little reliance on CGI at all. This made the aliens look soooo rad, especially when they were coming out of the sewers.

I do agree with your comment though that the action was a bit haphazard... I know what you mean in some instances of the movie. But I guess I was just happy to sit back and enjoy it.

I just want to point out that the post-production visual effects team was slightly larger than the on-set special effects team (which was still quite large for a movie these days). The visual effects team includes character animators which leads me to believe that some of the monsters were CG in at least some shots - puppets do have their 'revealing' angles and actions so you can't have them do certain things. They just pulled it off very seamlessly and didn't rely on it for every visual element, but the VFX definitly would have brought the shots together and made them work.
