A source close to BioWare confirmed to us today that the studio’s upcoming untitled massively-multiplayer online RPG will be centered around the Star Wars universe, specifically that of Knights of the Old Republic, which the developer released in 2003.

Primotech reports that it has been confirmed to them that the MMO will be based around the KOTOR world and: The game is being developed by the company’s Austin studio, formed in 2006 and headed by BioWare Creative Director James Ohlen, whose past credits include the first KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights, and Baldur Gate’s I and II.

They're definately working an SOME type of space MMO, and I'm a bit skeptical if it's going to be a KOTOR one, as star wars galaxies' success (or lack thereof) would have scared them off from making another SW MMO.

If however they are making a KOTOR MMO, it would kill the series for me. Lore in an MMO does nothing but disinterest me. And I sure as hell hope they don't end the series with it..

However I do hope that if EA are going to publish this, they won't force them to get the game out half-done and half-polished. Or cancel it altogether *cough*dungeon keeper 3*cough*.

Although if it's anything similar to Mass Effect, I'd get it.

Plenty of MMO's have always been made. The only reason anyone notices now is WOW.

i know there have been, but with wow crashing all the others, there's not much money in it anymore. not for one competing for WESTERN players.

I think theres tonnes of money in a good sci-fi MMO. A lot of people I talk to who play WoW are pretty burnt out on fantasy MMOs, WoW is all the fantasy they want or need, but a good sci-fi MMO (and for that matter, a good Star Wars MMO) would still interest a hell of a lot of people.

Having said that, I don't really want it to be a Kotor MMO, I'd much rather prefer a Mass Effect MMO :P

There is a gap in the MMO market for a sci-fi themed one.

Blizzard is gonna fill it ho ;)

Yeah I heard Blizzard is making a sci-fi MMO called World of Starcraft, where you fly around on a spaceship that can only travel along 2-dimensional maps.
