Topic: Which Console

After putting it off for ages i am looking to buy a console.
X-Box 360, PS3 or Wii, am wavering between the 360 and the Wii.
Only game of immediate interest is GH3 but i am sure there will be others.
What are the pro/cons of the big 3?

Xbox 360

Pros

- Awesome library of games (Halo3, Mass Effect, BioShock, Gears of War)
- Good value (I think the premium is $600 or less now)
- Xbox live is awesome
- Good range of accessories
- For an extra $250 you get an HDDVD player which is awesome value.

Cons

- Need an HDTV to fully appreciate the goodness
- Prone to breakage

Wii

Pros

- Control method is really cool
- Bundled with Wii Sports which is an awesome game
- Cheap
- Only need an SDTV

Cons

- Lack of quality titles (Mario Galaxy seems to be doing alright though)
- No DVD playback

Forget the PS3.

There has to be more than one game that interests you, have a look at what around and see what tickles your fancy. When you have more than one game that you're wanting to play, hopefully then it'll reduce the number of console choices.

xbox 360 isn't prone to breakage if you get the newer model with the falcon chipset.

also you can modchip the wii.

Same chipset used in the Elites?
If so lol.

Looked exactly the same as the old ones to me.
They even break the same way (ZOMG RING OF DEATH).

Only difference I could tell was the extra heat sink they've added for the GPU extending out from under the DVD Drive.

Even with all these issues the 360s are having, I still vote for it.

Wii looks f***en HORRID on a big 1080p screen. Even with component cables. It only allows you to swtich over to 480p which still sucks balls anyway.

Don't forget accessories quickly bring the total cost of the console up. After a few wii-motes, nun-chucks batteries and games. The Wii isn't that cheap.
And apparently Wii controllers use batteries like a crazy monkey on heat.

Your major problem with the wii is the lack of alot of games. it has an awesome novelty of the motion control and will probably be one of the most fun party consoles for a long time. but it is lacking in the breadth and depth of its game library, and it's just not powerful enough to handle some of the larger games.

The 360 has a incredible line up of games, great developer support, a huge user base ONLINE, xbox live arcade games are some of the best games that have been made (ikaruga FTMFW). it has a very strong library of games in all western genres, shooters, RPGS, action, sports. It also does have some very purty looking games if you got the right gear for that.

From everyone that i know that has a wii, they love it for the first week or 2, after that, they get a little bored. everyone that i know that has a wii and a 360, hasn't plugged their wii in since getting their 360 (except for a party mashup or 2).

That said after reading some of the soul calibur legends reviews, it seem devs are really getting to terms with the motion controls for the wii, and will hopefully see more time spent on the game it self, and not the controls from now on. I think it's got potential, but ever a year after release, it's still just, potential.

The 360 by far has the best library of games, and if you're interested in GH3, you get a better experience on the 360 (better online play, plus downloadable content).

The Wii isn't bad, but apart from playing resident evil 4, and metroid prime 3 that just came out, I've barely used it since January. Whereas my 360, its in use pretty much all the time. And what Enigma said is right, the Wii really looks like ass on a 1080p tv. I just bought a 1080p tv recently and fired up metroid prime 3 and it really does look pretty s*** after coming off of playing things like Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed.

Probably getting a console soon myself as well. Going to go with the 360 because i like the games a lot more (Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, etc).. also Xbox Live s***s over what the Wii has to offer in terms of online gaming. Also we have a HD TV so Xbox 360 is much better in that regard too.

Wii is fun, but currently lacks games. Wii cricket and Wii light sabers would be enough for me. Wii online despite others comment has potential, the newest NFL football game is pretty fun online.

360 is pretty, and has some decent games.

If you have a girlfriend, I'd say Wii because they will play that.

The Wii should just be an addon for the Xbox, together they would make the perfect console. I have both, I haven't used my Wii since getting the Xbox but then I didn't play the Xbox much either until I got some recent games. I only had DOA and Oblivion to start with and I didn't think the Xbox was that much better visually until I loaded up Assassins Creed, it looks amazing even at 1080i.

I don't regret buying the Wii despite not playing it much anymore, I really appreciate the little things like wireless lan support out of the box and the friendly interface and I'm expecting to play it more around Christmas with the family up and a few new games to play. It's a toy though compared to the Xbox which is more of a noisy media centre with HDMI and optical audio support which really suited my setup.

Definately go the 360. Way more games and the visuals are heaps better. Even using the component cables with the Wii, the visuals look like complete ass compared to the 360 on my 32" screen in hi-def.

But in saying that, I hardly touch my 360 either because I can't get used to using the control pad to run around and look at the same time. If they bought out the Wii nunchuck and remote for the 360 then that would rock extremely hard because that feels so much better to use than a normal control pad.

I'm more happy with my Wii these days than I have been in the past; it was a dust magnet for a few months there. There are more games sitting on the shelf that I want to buy than I can afford which is nice!

I enjoy playing with my Wii (roffles) and its getting some game time again lately.

I had a go of a mate's PS3 and it honestly felt like 'just' a PS2 with a graphics upgrade. After getting into Wii-ing its hard to drop the control scheme again for a console.

That said the graphics are (comparatively) f***ing s***house, although titles with good art direction can pretty much get around it. A well-composed low res game >>> a high res s***house product.

A lot of the games just don't work with the control scheme as well as they should, and promising titles that would be totally PWN end up elite fails if they don't sort their Wiimote-nunchuck s*** out properly.

The library has taken a while to mature but its better now. You can easily get 5+ very good / excellent games and maybe 10 or so good-mediocre, and the usual pile of garbage. I think that the 3rd party guys just didn't expect the Wii to get a lot of market penetration ala the GameCube so reacting to that takes time but we're starting to see some good titles now though.

Oh yeh, the Wii Mk II ( whenever it arrives, whoever actually makes it ) should be the bees knees of consoles.

Imagine a Wii with full 720 / 1080 support and a second more fully realised generation of its control scheme?!

Wii are in plenty supply here in Sweden, so no worries there. Already have a decent PC rig so that isn't a consideration.
All i want is something to have fun with on a cold Swedish night with a new "friend" who is into games. Which is why i thought the Wii would be the better option. Get one of the sports packs, GH3 and some other multiplayer game and we would be set.
Thanx for the advice though :)

I'll just copy fpot's crazy template.

Xbox 360:
Pros

· Games lineup!
· Good value (if you don't factor in a HD-DVD player otherwise its the same as the PS3 IMO).
· Xbox live is awesome <~~ definitely
· A complete package. Everything from the games to the online community is complete and finished. It is a well rounded awesome console.
· Not a PS3.

Cons

· Overheating.
· DVD drive failures (disk errors, etc).

PS3:
Pros

· Cheapest Blu-Ray player you'll find in Australia (though you can get them cheap in the states..).
· Awesome connectivity.
· Free online service (that less than 50% of customers utilise...).
· Looks awesome just like the 360.

Cons

· Cost.
· Obviously crappy online service with the crappy % of uptake considering its free.
· Lack of titles when compared with the 360.
· Not a 360.

Wii:
Pros

...LOL

Cons

· Everything.

SUMMARY

The 360 is awesome. Go buy that....I know hardly anyone with a PS3....but I know heaps of people with a 360 and we all hammer along online a fair amount. Tough giving everyone some of your time really :p I think with the online experience of the original XBox, MS has put themselves well ahead of the likes of Sony and Nintendo.

Just a heads up for anyone considering the $499 offer (its at Kmart or Target iirc) - some people who have brought it have reported that it was the older Xbox 360 Pro without a HDMI port.

Holy s***! That would be awesome. I don't have either, but I'd totally buy them together as a package. Surely the 360 could emulate Wii games, and the controllers'd work with some minor adapter magic. BRING IT ON!

This is a complete lie. There are so many good games out there its crazy! Shall I start?

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Mario Strikers: Charged
Super Mario Galaxy (fpot mentioned this)
Mario Kart Wii (soon to be released)
Sadness
Okami (PS2 port, dubbed the Zelda of playstation)
No More Heroes
Super Smash Brothers
Bomberman Land
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Trauma Center: New Blood
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

and thats not even mentioning the virtual console. Get a Wii, but get one second hand. You can find some awesome deals out there. Thats what I did and got an awesome deal.

Yeah ok Im a Nintendo/Mario/Zelda fanboy.

By the way, you may or may not think the above titles are great but its my opinion. Please don't try to argue against a single title.

Edit: Forgot to mention that even though the Wii has no playback DVD playback capabilities, it does have an SD (minSd I beieve) slot that allows you to view pictures and play movie's.

Oh and checkout this list of already released games ranked by their score.

I'm sure if we made a list of all the XBox 360 games that are worth getting, including games that might not be released until some vague time next year and games that came out since December last year, it'd still be longer. And you say Virtual Console? I raise you an XBox Live Arcade.

Not saying there isn't good games on the Wii, but you know when you have to dip into games that wont be out for ages and games that came out when it launched just to make a short list of good games, its struggling to build a decent library of titles. I'm sure this time next year there'll be a pretty good library of games for the Wii, the 360 had a pretty slow first year too, but in the right here right now theres really no contest.

At the end of the day though, I own them both, so the arguments between which is better don't really mean much to me, theres good reasons to own them both and I wouldn't want to be without either of them :)

The moment that I can use my Wii as a lightsabre is the day I buy a console. I try and make do with my penis, but the warts on the end of my dick just don't feel the same as the wii mote.

Although, I'm considering getting a 360 so I can consume the tv when I come home.

I dunno what the story is with all the ps3 haters.. IMO its a pretty quality console.

My next door neighbour came over and was blown away.. he is thinking of selling his xbox 360. I also know a guy from work who had a wii chipped with a dickload of games and got over it pretty fast.

A s***load of games for ps3 will start coming out so thats really not an issue.

I just came home from the w/e and my bro had a ps3 sittin there, FTW. Been playing assassins creed and cod4 which are pretty sick games.

Depends what your into really :) gears of war does look fkn awsome but ps3 ftw.

If they spent a bit more money on the sensor equipment so it got really accurate, then I'd purchase it in a moment. I'd also hope that it comes with Darth Maul/Vader costumes, and a blow up Princess Liea so I could live out all of my Star Wars fantasies.

The point with the PS3 is, the games look just as good (for different reasons) as they do on a 360, the 360 has a better online system (and a much larger user base), and, the 360 is cheaper.

So why buy a ps3?

Not to mention that thanks to sony delaying so long on the release that ALOT of their previously "PS only" 3rd party support now pump games out on the 360.

I believe even the next FF isn't going to be PS only.

I have all three, they all have their own cool things, but the most important thing is really the games. Go with whatever has the games you want (out now or coming out) and get that. If you then want games on another machine, buy that. Simple.

so party hat if the ps3 and xbox360 have pretty much exactly the same titles (besides ratchet and clank and resistence) why get a ps3? especially since the ps3 locks up when running the latest games: assassins creed and CoD4 ?

the only thing that could save the ps3 now would be easy peasy piracy.

because the ps3 has a blu-ray, I guess - that's the big drawcard that it has over the xbox 360. Clearly though it doesn't seem to be enough, at least for us, but there's a lot of people that have still bought the thing

DVD was an easy choice with the ps2 - there was no competing format. with blu-ray and hd dvd there is still no clear winner, so for me anyway, blu-ray isnt a clear choice.

Uncharted looks cool, but not quite cool enough to make me buy a PS3. For a while I was thinking of getting a PS3 and an imported version of Rock Band but now all these reports of early adopters having their Rock Band peripherals break after only a few hours use has put me right off that idea.

I'm sure I'll get one eventually, but right now theres no point. The "heaps of good games will be coming out soon" argument is a pretty lame one, I mean, why would I get one now based on the prospect of good games sometime in the future? I'll wait and get one when said good games actually come out. And anyone who sells their XBox 360 after seeing a PS3 is a fool. You list Assassin's Creed as one of the great PS3 games? Check out the 360 vs PS3 comparison of it on Gametrailers, 360 version looks better.

I've seen PS3's on displays on LCD's and Plasma's.
Seen the 360 on them too.

PS3 games look like a monkey has cum all over the screen compared to 360.

PS3 looks like f***ing s***, that car/bike dirt racing game looks like f***in s*** and plays like even steamier s***. Some other FPS that I forget looks like s*** on it too.

In short, PS3 looks like s***.

(I had a PS2 instead of xbox back in the xbox vs ps2 war).
Now, I wouldn't touch a Gaystation.

well at the moment the wii60 combo is definitely the way to go since the 360 has an excellent f***ing library and nintendo has its gems as usual.

the reason I got a ps3 is there are now some decent games coming out for it that i wanted to play, (ratchet and uncharted) and I'd like a bluray drive.

this thread didn't need all the bitchwars going on, all it needed was to outline what each consoles pros and cons are, and let the OP know some of the good games on the system.
