And if anyone has an idea of cost as wellThink about 1) What you want to shoot, 2) How many hours of raw footage needs to be shot, 3) how many cameras 4) what type/quality camera (high-def, standard home video quality, etc...), 5) How long is the finished product (assuming this is to be edited also), 6) how many copies of the final product, 7) any other s*** like DVD covers/artwork - lights required on the day - music required for the edit - titles and graphics for the edit I just did all this stuff for free for my gf's brother's wedding, because I have the skills. But this isn't something I want to do with my life. I would not expect to pay more than $25 an hour (per camera) on the day, and the edit should take about eight times the length of the footage to do, and also shouldn't pay more than $25/hour for that. $25 is IMO a professional rate for a camera operator, and not warranted for someone simply documenting an event. |

From what I read when I was semi-interested (a month or so ago) HardDrive camera's are s*** quality... unless you only want to YouTube stuff.
Mini-DV still the most recommended. DVD a not to distant second. JVC seemed to come the most recommended ~800 for Ok ~5-600 for Decent Also a Subject search for 'Video Camera' turned up this thread on the first page of results. |

Be more specific about what you're asking and I might be able to help.

HDD cameras record to mpeg2 at dvd quality. atleast mine does. so identical to dvd recorders (in fact you can burn vids directly to dvd from my camera and play on a dvd player without conversion). yeah you get artifacts from the mpeg but its not as bad you'd think and the fact you can fit the camera in your pocket is pretty handy too. |

how does it go for high speed stuff like say v8 super cars?
I recorded some riced up cars drifting with my camera and it was smooth as silk but with another camera recording relatively slow moving v8 super cars (just normal people driving them, not pros) they were jerking about like the camera couldn't keep up and it was dropping frames. Both were mini DV. Does it have any trouble keeping pace having to convert stuff to mpeg2 'on the fly'? |

people were jerking off in v8s? It's like the old illusion of the spokes of the wagon wheel/airplane prop going backwards Same with video taping V8's compared to rice mobiles. Ricers only can do 24fps (feet per second) and appear normally on vid cams V8's - well, cause they move faster than the vid cams can perceive and thus, it appears as bad frames :) I could do better yet I'm drunk an trying to cram in as much drinking time as I can before I catch a plane at 7am to somewhere south of mexico |

sorry what? people were jerking off in v8s? ok, for the simple people out there like nF who is obviously retarded... does a hard drive camera that records directly to mpeg drop frames when filming fast moving objects? |

well the one used to record a few laps around QR in a v8 did and no it wasn't my computer dropping them because I tested it with my camera and it was still smooth same program used to get footage off both cameras and they're both DV cameras so I wondered if HDD cams suffer the same thing.
