Ive just installed Blackberry enterprise server express (the free 1 user version) for a client. The install went alright, but when I made the user account it sits on itializing. Blackberry support are useless and take ages to reply to emails and dont even have an australian number to call. Google and the blackberry sight dont have any answers for me.

I remember from a previous thread that a few people here swear by these blackberrys and they run blackberry server, maybe you have an answer for me.

Ive tried to go through the setup on the phone to see if it would connect anyway but it doesnt.

Thanks.

ignore the part about the user stuck on itializing, apparently thats what its meant to do until the user activates, but it still doesnt work, sits on activiating on the blackberry.

I think the device may not have been set by the provider to connect to BES.

Drop BES while you still can. Get some WM5/WM6 devices and use ActiveSync.

Note: There are enterprise and internet versions of blackberries.

Normally, an e-mail will go to the user with the activation instructions... but you can check for an "Enterprise Activation" option on the blackberry.

Im all with the killing blackberry's, but this is for a client that was sold one and now wants it to work.

Shame the stupid sales person put him on the individual plan which doesnt work with BES.

Got that changed but now trend is blocking the activation email, hopefully once its unblocked it should work.

The alternative is to plug the device directly into the BES box (via USB) and then once the drivers are loaded you can simply right-click on the user and "Allocate Device" (or something similar to that).

Leave it plugged in for the duration of the sync and viola, you're all done.

It's not un-common for the sales ppl not to initialise Enterprise services, in fact that would account for about 90% of my call outs with BB these days.

All working now.

It was the usual multiple things stopping it from working scenario, firstly it wasnt set by telstra to be a BES device, seconaly trend was blocking the email that the blackberry send to the users mailbox, had to completely disable anti-spam for a few minutes, cant even add to a whitelist becuase it comes from slightly different domains everytime.

And thirdly, it removed the activation password I had set when the services restarted, that one was an easy fix and probably more my doing.

Give me activesync anyday.

When its all working fine, its great.... I'm having my own blackberry problems today... Waiting on a Vodafone account manager to bring me a Sim card.

Our BES is having the s***s at the moment though, not syncing calendar data and delaying e-mails so that people end up receiving them in big blocks maybe 3-5 times a day.

SO LAME HEARING ABOUT IT FROM EVERYONE

and to make matters worse, we're also having dire Exchange dramas... LUCKY ME (note: I don't complain cause I have to fix it, I don't, Infrastructure team is working with MS / RIM/Vodafone, but I have to f***ING HEAR ABOUT IT)

Sorry, needed to vent.

Blackberrys are great, When they work !

I did find the blackberry site very usefull with its article's, but I would have liked an australian support number to call, all american and uk.

You cant beat speaking to some dude who say's "oh yeah just do this and this and it will work" Thats if they have decent support people, dont get me started on the MS "experts" they have for when you log a call as a gold partner, im pretty sure I knew more than randon indian guy I spoke to last time.

I think the deal is, most of the support is through the phone company.
