Just wondering did you end up buying a new router and did it solve you drop out issues on the net? Drop outs at my end are really getting on the nerve....

CHEERS...

I haven't yet; mine has come good (For now). My flatmate is organising a new (free) modem through her work which I'll try when it arrives, but it seems to happen in waves and atm I am on a good run with no problems. So far. I bet I just jinxed it though.

Im trying an old USB modem i got with the former Hypermax internet i got out west... if i dont get troubles with this one i'll splurge out for something special of the non-USB variety to keep me going... So far so good just set it up... dont like the idea of the other computers routed through me though.

What data rate are you running the DSL connection at? Can you drop it down a bit? I see lots of people trying to force a 24mbit (or similar high speed) connection when their line can't handle it.

I'm not even on ADSL 2; I think it's 8mbit ASDL regular stylez. It's running at all defaults; I haven't tried any non-standard stuff. The problem is that it just goes into these fits of spontaneous rebooting. I thought it might be heat or something related; I've moved it around a little but and it's been fine for weeks now (...so far)

I THINK MY WOES ARE OVER WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!
Just got off the line to Bigpond support! Support asked whether i had anything else connected to the line. I said NO, NOT EVEN A MOFO'n LANDLINE PHONE. I suggested that i do have an alarm system that i have never used the was installed in the property i just moved into and that it could of been linked to the phone line but i didnt know.

He suggested charge my cordless (which i dont use) and check if there's any crackling/dropouts on the phone line and try to find out if the alarm is connected to the phone line...

So i plugged in the cordless... no crackling and sounded clear and sweet. Called the phone number on the alarm sys and asked how i could tell that the sys was on the phone line. Sheila replied that I just had to open the box and see if i could see a phone cord. She also warned me that the alarm might go off in accordance to how it was set up.

So I open the alarm box... and there it was a phone cord. Pulled the sucker out and viola! Hopefully that is the end of 3 months of agonizing disconnection issues. I now look forward to happy gaming again.

MORAL: Turns out some alarm systems have a feature of checking if the phone line has been cut or not. AND THAT WHEN U DON'T THINK THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE ON YOUR LINE!!! THAT THERE MIGHT JUST BE SOMETHING ELSE ON YOUR ADSL LINE!!!

instead of breaking your back to base alarm, why don't you just put an adsl filter on it?

yeah... well that was the plan... But i only got the line splitters that require the "small rj45's"(don't know what they are really called) on each end. I need a 4prong to 4prong splitter if you know what i mean/or do some rewiring myself.

Queue: "data dude" for correct terminology...

back to base alarms are suppose to be wired to the phone line, not just plugged in. for that reason it is suggested you get a central spliter adsl filter.

that said, you can get away with just using a normal filter if you have one of the old school yellow fingers plugs. you just need to get the appropiate adapters.
