I feel it neccesary to start a thread about people who got f***ed over by there landlords. Me and my two housemates got kicked out, she gave us two weeks notice. In our ignorance we felt this was normal and legal however we found out later on that out of lease 60 days is required. Further on that she insisted on inspecting the house on our last day of residence, even though we had payed rent for that day and she gave us no notice.
Our landlord was a complete and utter bitch (mainly because she was huge, i think she had the whole feminist fat bitch thing going). Now she kicked us all out none of us have anywhere to go and have ended up with various relatives. Anyone else who has some bad experiences or knowledge on the rental game, please share. |

The only thing I can see wrong in your post is not what she did but that it should read "My two house mates and I"

Kat you sound like my mother.
We payed rent every time and we also payed two weeks ahead. Her reason for evicting us was because there wa too many "weeds" in the garden. The fact that we didn't have a water tank and could not water the garden did not seem to phase her at all. |

Was it a private rental with a lease?
Was it stated that if the house wasn't kept that you could be evicted? |

Talk to the RTA and get them to go through the lease and the circumstances for being evicted, you could probably get back some coin and the costs of moving from her.

We will see how the inspection goes this morning in regards to bond. Might not get it all back but hopefully most of it we will. There was a condition in our lease that yard maintenance be kept up.
We argued that after we pulled the weeds, they grew back and the grass died because of the drought, all the lawns in the area were the same. The main thing that made everything so hard was because she did not give us the required amount of time for an eviction. She also conducted inspections without sufficient notice and inspected the house herself even though her leasing agent from the real estate was meant to be present at each inspection. All in all, we learned alot about the rental game and will not be played for fools in the future. Kat, yes there was a requirement for yard maintenance in the lease agreement, however fromour point of view, her grounds were unjust and she not discuss this with the leasing agent at all, which is a requirement of our agreement. She rode us like a 2 DOLLAR hooker. |

the funny thing about this thread is the pedants pulling him up on spelling and grammar mistakes, but not picking up the most obvious ones.

not a bad experience but the landlords that I'm with now are the best that rent money can buy.. Have never had one inspection and they go out of their way to help with any probs I may have with the joint.. being in such an awesome rental situation, It makes it hard to believe that there are f***wit landlords around.

Yes it's just as important to shop around for a good landlord as a place I think.

I was paying $480/week for a townhouse in Indooroopilly, having to deal with a bunch of absolute ass-mongers for agents.
As in, illegal entries, attempts to alter the contract after signing without consideration, issuance of a notice to leave on grounds of non-payment (despite full payment, with receipts to prove it), a stupid rent hike the second our initial lease was up (went from $410 to $480 overnight), issues re: guests visiting from interstate = unapproved tenants, the list goes on and on.. So, we told them to go f*** something jagged and moved into one of my parents' rental properties in Tarragindi. Now paying $240/week for a fully renovated worker's cottage (as in, when we told them we were looking for somewhere else to live, they renovated it for us), within 1km of an ADSL2+ enabled exchange. The only downside is a shortage of gourmet food places and delicatessans etc, not to mention late night grocery stores etc. Still.. for the rent saving as well as not having to deal with asshat landlords, I'm probably not going to move again until we buy a place. |

lucky u have awesome parents with a rental gesthemene lol. Cant go bad for $240 a week.
same happened to me, our lease was about to run up in 2 weeks. landlord said they arent renewing our rental agreement because we had breached 2 out of 3 warnings. 1 was for one of the roommates "doing a burnout" (a small screech over a speed bump on a rainy day). 2nd one was for one of our roomates friend did a burnout in the street off ours and apparently that was our problem. so yeah, had nowhere to go so we just had to chose some place that was nowhere near as nice, as the newly built townhouses, and give a big sob story to the real estate saying they didnt give us enough notice, nowhere to go blah blah and we need to be approved within the next day or so and they did. landlords are the scum of the earth |

I have never rented, but some of the stories I hear from my friends are horrible. It pisses me off to hear that people have to pay a $10 fee in order to PAY their rent through some stupid billing service which is slower than conventional payment methods. 5 people living in a share house = $50 of billing fees every fortnight.
Around the time I heard this, someone woman working at a Real Estate agent in Brisbane was shot and killed by an irate tenant. No f***ing wonder!! Real estate agents should be lucky that I have never rented. Some agents came close to getting hurt when I was trying to purchase a place. I mean you drive half an hour to an inspection and the whole time you're there the agent doesn't talk to you - just chats on the phone. Or you want to buy a place and you keep making offers - but the agent fails to have the paperwork which legally entitles them to accept your offer... Gee I would be pissed if I was the poor c*** selling property through those kinds of deads*** lazy agents. |

LOL, Thanks Spook :) I've been there quite a few times and yes, they do have a decent range of stuff.. Still, compared to Taringa etc, it's proving to be a little tricky getting hold of some of the more esoteric stuff we like. Having said that, we've bought lamb etc from there a few times, and every time, it's been bloody amazing! (although, that could just be my leet barbecuing skillz ;)) How good a coffee do Puccini's make? I haven't been there yet (mainly because I'm not supposed to eat Italian food atm :(), but am really curious. Also, any suggestions for late night grocery shopping? |

You would probably go all right renting it out for single night stays in the valley.
You could even rent it out multiple times in the one night if you know what I mean. Plastic on the matress and everyone's a winner. |

Speaking of The Valley and paying for love, one of our friends was in the mall the other night and overheard a junkie/hooker talking on the phone. But apparently she wasn't working that night.
Our friends said her exact words were "Nah, I not up here sellin me hole." Classy. |

Currently paying $215 a week for my town house at Everton Park. The place is OK, though I hate the vegetation. Fairly new as well. Agents are a c***. The landlord is a big mining company, so we never have to deal with them. Did I mention the real estate agents are a pack of inbred fwits? |

landlords are the scum of the earth sif.. I'm with the landlords on this one. it's fair enough that in our day and age most of us keep to ourselves and don't care to get to know our neighbours, but this hasn't alway been so. even in the place I'm in right now, my landlord is good mates with my neighbour, who was also good mates with the guy who owned this place 10 years before him. sure - our concept of communtiy has decayed down to that of a joke for much of this generation, but that not to say that many values that were in place long before our time have erroded away. if you, your mates or your guests disrupt your neighbours you've got to be one of the new-age morons not to beleive that you're acting on your landlords behalf and that his neighbours are going to drop him a line on the mobile to let him know what they think of his new tenants. if you're renting a house keep that in mind.. the people in the house/unit/etc around you aren't just randoms. some of them are your landlords friends and/or associates, and they won't neccesarily take matters up with you if they think for a second that you're not someone who can be reasoned with, or if they can be bothered talking to you. |

I agree to an extent with Koopz, common decency applies.
I've had the same landlord for the past year, shes fantastic, very nice and friendly, always sorts everything out quickly and to a high standard of quality. Moving flat this weekend, hopefully the new landlord will be as nice. I do think its your own responsibility to make sure you have your bases covered, particulary with the legalities. |
