So I'm geting married in May next year and its come time to book honeymoon. We've decided on going to Fiji for 6-7 nights, preferrably at one of the smaller islands as I've head the main island aint nothn to flash. Mind you this is from a fella who's travel extends as far as rocky. Probably prefer a place without kids n stuff.

Anyone got any recommendations of kewl places they been to or whats dodge?

I highly recommend this island boat cruise where they baically dump you on this island where u can snorkle or drink as must fiji beer ur stomach can handle.
They also load you up with carva. There are heaps of cruises to take but this one was a lot of fun. Another is the sunset cruise but this is a bit of a wank.
Food was average and the sunset was the same as it looked on land.

Stick to the tourist spots otherwise you might get urself into trouble. (like I did) If you do decide to go away from the resorts then be careful as people with money really stick out like dogs balls over there.

Yeah, I heard the main island of Fiji wasn't much chop. Until I stayed there for a week. It was bloody ace mate, and apparently the smaller islands are heaps better. Cheap flights there, I recall only paying $200 return incl Tax, but accommodation and everything else while you're there is really expensive, they definitely see you coming.

Don't drink the tap water either. Not as bad as Thailand though. Fiji gold and Fiji bitter is literally relabeled XXXX so it isn't that bad. Carva makes you face go numb, I suggest dipping your cods in a bucket of it and then f*** like stoned wilder beast for 2 hours.

*Kava, nice stuff, very similar effect to benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax etc).

$200 ? freakn bargin, i got quoted like $1100 return for two ppl economy class. We looking to spend bout 4k including flights but it seems pretty $$ to get a nice place so may need to go a little higher.

Honeymoon and all I wanted a nicer bungalo sorta thing i.e. beach front not garden. This place seems pretty sweet

Went to flight centre who suggested this place but just wanted to see what else good is out there.

We got married in Fiji in June of this year and were there all up about two weeks.
We flew in to Nadi airport and stayed just outside Nadi for two nights before heading to the resort we had booked. I can’t really recommend visiting Nadi itself, mainly because tourists stand out like a sore thumb and generally get incessantly hassled to buy something from the s***ty souvenir shops or to catch a taxi somewhere. We actually had a taxi driver stalk us for the 2-3 days we were in Nadi. He would wait out the front of our hotel and basically as soon as we would set foot out the door he would pounce, offering to take us anywhere we wanted and suggesting “tourist” drives. It got kind of annoying.
On a serious note we found out from one of the locals that there are “streetboys” – basically low levels scammers who I assume who have probably stolen our wallets etc had we fallen for their scheme, which basically involves them following you/luring you down an alley and taking your cash. All of the shops were super touristy and not worth going into at all. You can get souvenirs at most of the resorts at roughly the same price. It is a very different side of Fiji to the resorts etc, and is worth a look for the culture shock but only if you are into that sort of thing. I guess it put the resorts etc into perspective so it wasn’t all bad. I actually didn’t mind it that much but it freaked my wife out, and I must admit it was kind of a drag fending off overly enthusiastic vendors and taxi drivers every five steps.
For the first week or so we stayed at the Mercure Resort on Denaru Island. One thing you should know about Fiji is that it is cheap to fly there etc but alcohol, resort food and accommodation can get very expensive. I pretty much drank Fiji Bittter the whole time at around $5 a can/bottle. To give you an idea, a stubbie of VB will set you back as much as $9. Bottles of spirits eg. Jack Daniels or Bundy Rum will cost you about $80-90. Cocktails by the pool at most of the big resorts on the mainland will run from $15 through to about $24 each. We got married on Sonasali Island, but only spent one night and two days there. It was pretty nice I must admit. However the resorts thing got a bit boring after a while, and to see the real Fiji, you need to get out into the islands.
There is pretty much only one way to get from island to island and that is on one of the large island hopping ferries that run up and back each day. We got a package staying on set islands, but if I did it again I would probably just get what is known as a “Bula” pass, which gives you the option to go wherever you like for 5 or 7 days etc.
That way if you like somewhere you can stay there a bit longer, don’t like it keep cruising. A word of warning: the further you go north the more basic the accommodation and facilities. The furthest we went was a place called Sunrise Beach “resort”. It isn’t a resort. It is more like a school camp. If you are on your honeymoon I would strongly suggest getting your own room or “bure” (pronounced bu-ray). Dorm accommodation means you will be sharing with a bunch of backpackers – not exactly romantic. Also most of the “resorts” this far up have no electricity and only cold water. Again, not particulary romantic but roughing it gives you a better appreciation of the place in general.
I would strongly recommend checking out the Blue Lagoon (the resort there is basic but a bit more upmarket), Bounty Island (party action with heaps of 18-25 year olds and private accommodation with hot showers!!), and Korovou (no hot water and generator power but the friendliest people and a really beautiful place).

Anyway if you want to know more pm me as there is heaps more to tell.
I would definitely recommend Fiji for your honeymoon. It is pretty damn nice and the people for the most part are some of the friendliest in the world.

Correction - The Mercure Resort was where we stayed near Nadi.
We stayed at Trendwest on Denaru.

Some people from Melbourne we met over there went on a "party boat" type deal and they said that was pretty good too.

As far as the Kava goes we had some but it didn't do much. We had it at the Sunrise resort, where everyone joined in together in the communal dining room (as I said kinda like school camp) and because we were newlyweds the staff made me "chief" for the night. I had to clap three times and say something in Fijian then the round of Kava started. We got to do about 4-5 rounds before they ran out. I always got to drink first and everyone had to follow me.

It was a bit lame but also kinda fun at the same time. The only effects I got were a slight numbing of the lips. We figured that it was tourist stuff, and people we met up with later said they had tried the real deal elsewhere and ended up paralysed for a while, unable to move and totally munted. You used to be able to bring it back into Australia but they have banned the import of it altogether now I think.

You can still bring it back if you are from the pacific islands or for medical use.

If you do find yourself on a venue with kids where you want to be just do this simple trick that I ... err ... heard of once ...

Step 1) Look at the children with a silly grin on your face.
Step 2) Touch yourself. Yes, down there.

It won't take more than 5 minutes before the parents come and take their children away from you and then paartay on dude!
