I felt compelled to make a thread about this after seeing all the preview ads for it...
Are the ch10 exec's smoking crack? How can they possibly think a show about funny video clips from the internet could be successful?.. seriously... This is obviously targeting kids/youth/young adults and I am pretty sure at least 95% of this demographic would be online. Everyone on the net has surely heard of youtube and plenty of people get retarded videos forwarded to them by friends/family. If you want to see some funny videos you just hop onto you PC and LOL away any time of the day. How can these idiots remain employed and receive insane paychecks... f***... give me some pls. Plus ex-big brother hosts... another big MINUS they could have at least put a nice hot chick in control like funny home videos. |

This show is like an ad for the destruction of television. I wholeheartedly support it.

yes, channel 9's icaught failed.
it just shows how irrelevent TV has become. that they show a show about video clips of youtube from YEARS ago and pimp it with comments like "don't be the last one to see it" like it is something new. well, if you are seeing it first on that show, you are the last person to see it.. last edited by ara at 19:40:32 26/Oct/07 |

Go on and have a guess at what percentage of the target demographic that might be...

I watch very little free to air, so someone answer this question. Is Australia's funniest home video show still running?
If the answer is yes, then I don't see why it's so hard to understand how the show this thread about could be successful. If no, the fact that I still frequently see and hear people passionately discussing big brother and Australian idol, even here on this forum, still backs up that notion. Bottom line, there's a lot of people out there that soak this sort of s*** up. Just cause we've seen anything remotely funny an original the internet has to offer doesn't mean your average australian tv viewer has. There's still a massive proportion of people out there that are still on dial-up or feel they have no need for an Internet connection. But most of all, this show would cost f***-all to make, there's a s***-ton of stupid people and tv is free. |

Channel 10 is losing badly. 24x7 test pattern would improve their ratings as it would get watched more and for longer as people wouldn't turn off thanks to their annoying 'talent'.

Well who do you think the target demographic is? IMO its what I have already stated. Kids/Youth/Young Adults.
My reasoning for thinking the vast majority of these people will have broadband internet access is for study. Primary school, highschool, university all rely heavily on obtaining info for assignments and the best source is... omg the internets! The latest generation is growing up around the internet, dial up ain't gonna cut it for the kiddies nowadays for their games and streaming music/video. I would imagine the majority of DU users now would be older people who use the internet solely for email etc. |

I watched some of it because I wanted to see if they put any vids up that I've seen. I also wanted to know if they had gOLD or just OLD. No gold, all old.
EDIT: I also give it at least a few months air time. It is probably cheap as chips to produce. |

i guess there is also the requirements for commercial FTA TV channels to produce and air a certain percentage of Australian made tv and im guessing that this qualifies and as Dan said has a low cost of production. this could be the reason behind those SMS shows that channel 7 and 9 play late at night that copy the format of the original hotdogs show format. |

I'd also edge my guess that the target demographic is far wider than that. It's prime time and I can see plenty of middle-aged technologically challenged people sitting around guffawing at s*** like this. The same people that watch funniest home videos - it's always family friendly viewing. Not like they're showing 2 girls one cup - although, they totally should. |

I don't go out of my way to watch lame things like that though, so that's prolly why |

It was pretty aweful, I just saw the tail end of it.
Even worse is the fact that the video clips are s*** quality that they can't play them full screen and therefore have in the stupid little window thing. Gah. |

^ yeah arent they like 2 weeks behind the U.S? It's still more "direct" than having to wait the usual 6-8 months we previously had to. Besides, isn't that the excuse most of us who download tv shows uses to justify it? "We're getting it well before we'll ever see it in au". Enjoy it while it lasts I say.. |

I watched 2 clips because someone else was watching it. Low quality s*** house clips on TV that are old. Well done! Worst 'TV' ever. No wonder people download so many shows. |

I just can't stand the incorrect buzz word terminology "streamed direct" they are using in the ads to appeal to the general nubulation.
Its similar to when you see a movie and they spurt out a whole random string of cringe worthy "computer terminology" that makes absolutely no sense. |

The reason I download overseas TV shows?
1: I get to see them in the correct order 2: I get to see the entire season in case some f***tard has an arguement with someone an refuses to pick up the next season 3: I get to sample shows that some retard decides in their finite wisdom, that a particular show/pilot may just offend a particular demographic 4: The Nielsons(sp) rating system is hopelessly out of touch with reality. |

Wouldn't the 'streamed direct' thing be bulls*** for another reason, that being the USA are all NTSC whores and we loves us some PAL color so they'd have to air the s*** in the US, then transcode it for us? I'm guessing here they shoot the thing and then make it NTSC first for themselves, then while that's airing edit bits out or whatever and convert to PAL for us?

I've no idea what happens when you just siwtch off the box and go to bed though. Perhaps channels need to be changed/volume atered or something to flag usage to the computer program taking the stats :/ |
