I know many of you here are married/engaged, i'm thinking of popping the question soon to my girlfriend, I've already got the ring but I'm not quite sure of how to pop the question a way she'd like. Do any of you have ideas or stories of what you did?

i think that "you should know how she wants to be proposed to" is pretty lame, same with the "you should know what kind of ring she wants" because without directly asking them (and therefore ruining the surprise) how will you possibly know?

In my opinion it totally depends what kind of girl she is.
Before engagement and after there was nothing different with our relationship. It was such a none event to be honest, not because it wasn't romantic and it wasn't a question I wanted to be asked for a long time, but because in the grand scheme of things it didn't change anything. All I had was an expensive piece of rock on my finger that I was paranoid about wearing.

Some women want the hype, others don't. You should know what kind she is and work that into it.
