I'm over that side of the world for a month - prolly won't be in London until around mid-October, but should be there for around 5-7 days at least.

On a big trip from the 20th - Nov 4, but if you are here before then give us a yell. World Cup Final is ont the 20th, you will want to find somewhere good for that.

If you're looking for cheap/decent hostel accomodation, make sure you call Belushi's on Market St. The place is run by 75% aussies, is in the heart of town and is decent quality for its price.

if you can, get on the ales! plenty of variety and usually cheapest pints. stay away from brixton, or if you go there, don't try and buy any illegal substances off black guys! SE1 is the best club in london. Nice birds in Edinburgh! get to atleast one premiership game also, innit!

If you're coming down to the South Coast to see some historical naval stuff, you've got a place in Portsmouth to stay. Enjoy the trip..If you get a chance, definitely head down to Cornwall, nicest part of the UK IMO.

How did you manage to sell yourself for non casual work? Would seem a bit odd getting a resume for a programmer or what not from a different country here when you can just hire someone local?

Applied for a two year work visa. Go for agencies, they'll sort you out for temp work - in any field you want. You can also get contract work by just asking around. I was already doing contract graphic design for a record label in Bristol and when I got there I continued doing that, aswell as work for BT Broadband which I got through an agency.

Um, just applied. There is SOOO much work its not funny. When i left my last job i put my CV on ONE job site. I was getting 15-20 calls a day. After day 3 i took it off and had an offer. Recruiter get around £3k for placing somone, so they work thier ass off!

Casual, hospitality jobs are everywhere too. But they pay rubbish, £5-7 an hour (7 if your lucky!)

dont bother if your not here, they wont want to know you! if you live west london, its rare to get an interview in east london. if your more than 30mins on the tube they think you live too far! its crazy

like i said, there are so many of us. this office im at now, probably 70% are aussies!! boss is an aussie, ceo is an aussie. Theyve done the same thing you have so they know whats going on.

Also, brits work ethics suck! aussies and kiwis have a good rep at work hard, so that helps.

Also like i said, you cant get good people. We had offers of £600 a day, and people didnt want it!

Anothe point, there are alot of Eastern EUs now, so your English is a big selling point. Plus, no one likes Easterns and everyone loves aussies ; )

I actually work in recruitment over here and can verify that this is indeed the case. I trawl a few different CV sites everyday and as soon as I see someone even remotely relevant I am straight on the phone. Recruitment is a massive industry over here - so long as you get your CV on the main sites and it doesn't read like s***, then you will be flooded with calls. Hell, if you have worked in any sort of sales environment before you can get yourself a job in recruitmen easily - I did!

yeah i ended up getting a job over here.. when i was looking i was typed in native english and just went through those results and got a job straight away (within a week)

I would be up for a London QGL gathering. I zip over to the UK often and for far less reasons than this :)
I am sure i could tie it up with some buisness trip.

I recruit for people who do payroll - kinda weird and niche, but not too bad. After the HSMP visa comes through I may look at doing something a bit broader, perhaps public sector.

Good thing is that when you get home local recruitment companies are apparently dead keen on people who have UK recruitment experience, so there is money to be made. Giddy up!

yesh i'd be keen for a gethering of some description at some stage in october.. actually on the west coast of ireland at the moment visiting my parents and stuff (they flew from bris to see me after 18mths being away), spent a bunch of time in greece the earlier aswell.. needed it after getting settled in a job in london..

I have just arrived in Dublin. In some dodgy hotel south of the city (with LUNIX POWARED INTERNET KIOSK) but so far looks good. Probably just going to do lamo tourist stuff tomorrow, wrapping up with the Guiness factory thing tour. Trying to decide if a day trip out to Blarney or thingy Castle or anything else is worth doing. Any recommendations?

Just spent 5 days in Scotland (with a couple days recovering in leeds from the cold I picked up in the FREEZING f***ING COLD highlands - how anyone lived long enough there to even have a family let alone form clans i'll never know. At least now i understand the bloody history of this corner of the world - its the only way to stay f***ing warm).

Still trying to decide where to go next week (Germany? Austria? Prague? so many choices!!!) but will probably be in london from the 17th oct onwards. i'm not big on nightclubs but if anyone wants to hit the pub on the saturday after that I'll try to remember to post here with where i'll be.

I leave for my trip on that Saturday, so no can do. And the days leading up to it are fairly hectic as well.

heh I'm in Barcelona now (Ireland last week; I cluelessly put Heardy's number into my phone wrong and was cursing his name when he didn't respond to my SMS to meet me at the Aussie pub in Dublin). Going to Prague tomorrow, then Paris for a couple days to catch up with some friends there then off to London for my last 5 days :(
