Not mentioned on the apple website, but does anyone know if it is going to be compatible with wireless speakers as iTunes is ?

I'm glad someone else posted a new thread about these babies cause I've been dying to find out more too.
Here's the user's manual : http://macnn.com/rd/85480==http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPod_touch_Features_Guide.pdf Can't remember reading anything about wireless speakers. What do you mean iTunes is compatible with wireless speakers? I'm disappointed there aren't any games on the touch. I actually use the games on my 3rd Gen quite a bit to pass the time at uni. I might use wireless browsing instead, but I can see that chewing up the battery pretty quickly. 5 hours of video (the listed battery life) would be calculated just playing movies back to back with the screen set to power save mode... which means it would be closer to around 3 if you are actually flipping through the library now and then and using features like scan, volume and brightness all the time. |

You grab an airport express, which has a 3.5mm jack on it, it joins your wireless network, and in itunes, you can select the airport express as a sound output destination, its fkn mad

Watch out - the screens of the first batch have had a hit/miss ratio of weird black issues (dark areas appearing almost negative).
But then, 1st gen apple stuff always has gremlins. |

I went to see if JB's had these in stock yet and they said they won't get them til the end of November. I then went to Myers and saw a mate who works there and he said Apple aren't telling them when they'll be released here. Sounds like they might be trying to fix the bugs in them before they're shipped internationally. The website though says taht you can order them online and get them shipped within 2 weeks...

I got ownd... I pre-ordered one and payed it off over a few weeks. They were expecting to get them 3pm friday or today. They didnt have them on Friday but Myer in the city had 15 of em sitting there on the shelf. Turns out that Next Byte only got 10 ipods in total on Friday so theyre still on backorder of about 40! WTF!!! Myer has 15 of em sitting in a plastic cabinet! I hope this has something to do with the bad batch of screens otherwise, nice going Apple. Send 10 whole ipods to a store - great way of selling ur new ipod range... |

No places will have the touch yet, also f*** retail and order online. The clowns at JB-HiFi and WoW were hard to deal with.
these really need a beefed up battery.and more than 16gb of storage. I bought a classic with 160gb which is pretty f***ing bats*** insane realy. |

The clowns at JB-HiFi and WoW were hard to deal with. So true. I was there yesterday looking at the iPods in the case for about 5 minutes and nobody approached to help me. I then tried to get someones attention and they ignored me so I pretty much physically stopped as staff member when he was walking past me ignoring me saying, "Excuse me". I asked him about the touch and then he went on to say how crap they are and blah blah blah. I politely said I didn't care what he thought, when are they coming in. He continued to rant about how small the storage is and the problems with the screen. He also kept calling me "Brah". I wanted to punch him. I've thought about it quite a bit and I'm trying to hold out to 2nd Gen. TBH 16Gig is enough for me. I'd just be more selective about the playlists I put on it. I really want it for the gimmick factor more than anything so it's good they're being delayed - it may have worn off for me by the time they are available. |

I just didn't like the fact they didn't call when they got stock, and then said its basically a first come first serve basis with iPods. I placed and order from the apple store on a Wednesday, shipped Thursday, and got it on a Monday, from f***ing Shanghai. A++ would buy trendy whore s*** again.

So you're saying that there was a store that actually had the touch??? Yeh! I tested one out in Myer Centre. By the way, it's f#@ken awesome. The storage is honestly the only downside to them, but A) its flash so its durable as hell B) it allows it to be that thin and C) If you need space, from memory you can delete videos straight from the iPod itself and D) the glass on the front is highly scratch resistant. People have scraped razors down the screen and nothing happens. |

C) If you need space, from memory you can delete videos straight from the iPod itself I kinda remember hearing something like that... but it doesn't really make any sense: with these iPods you can't enable HDD use so everything you do is through iTunes. ERGO, even if you can delete movies off it directly then you still have to plug it into iTunes to sync whatever you were making room for. |

I doubt apple actually handle the warehouse distribution of there products. They probabley offload stock to suppliers who then sell the stock to the store. Even if they are responsible for there own product distribution they don't care where there available units go. All they care about is selling them to the retailer. So go to myer and buy one.

A bunch of over Seven Thousand iPods were stolen from Apple in QLD a week or two ago.
Carefull in buying the new iPods over the next few weeks - you could be buying them from a thief. last edited by Idol at 19:14:58 05/Oct/07 |

billy: it's definitely got bling appeal. The touch interface is not only fun to use but very intuitive too. Like to scroll through your music a given amount (eg one page) is so easy with the way it feels like it has mass. You very quickly learn how much to flick it to scroll how far you want. If you are about to overshoot then you just tap to stop it.
One thing that is a little annoying so far is how much effort it is to adjust volume or change tracks when it's in your pocket. On my old nano i could do it without looking. But on the touch you have to wake it, slide to unlock, then do what you want. Given time it might be possible to do it by feel bit it will take practice. Typing on it like this is ok. I'm still getting used to the keyboard and the predictive stuff. I could definitely see how sms'ing on the iPhone could be very fast once you get a little practice. One thing I'm already wishing it had (other than a mail client or ability to add calendar entries) is a speaker. Youtube on it is awesome but pointless for group viewing. 16Gb doesn't sound like much compared to a hard drive-based iPod but coming from a 2Gb nano it is plenty for me. After syncing a good selection of music i still have about 9Gb free. I'm going to convert some movies etc tonight and see how much is left then. Speaking of, time to start encoding. I'll post again tomorrow once i've used it some more. Oh almost forgot - can't see any options for airport speakers. :( |

Awesome - thanks for that. I can definitely see those two things as the biggest problem: having to f***in look at the thing just to change track/volume; and no speaker when watching vids.

im posting from my ipod :) browser is the best mobile browser ive ever used. For typing i usually put it on its side as the keys are bigger.
As for a speaker, why would they have a speaker on an ipod? Hardly any mp3 players have them. Besides, the video ipod didn't have speakers. It would be handy but would prolly make it a bit bigger or thicker. last edited by 3dee at 13:11:19 07/Oct/07 |

there's actually a little speaker of sorts on the touch... but it only gets used to key clicks and alarms (which appears to have been broken by the latest update).

anyone noticed their ipod touch running uncomfortably warm? I just noticed mine is very warm (wasn't playing music, but was on standby in my pocket) and the battery got drained from 80% -> 50%... Did a reboot and it seems to be fine now...

friend of mine was watching it crowd eps on mine in the car on Saturday arvo. I asked him what the screen was like in the daylight and he said it was okay. I have the brightness turned down a tad too
I had some problems with video last night - colours went all screwy with random greens and purples instead of dark grays etc. Rebooted it (hold down top button a few seconds and you can power it down) and it came good. I think one of my encodings was bad or something cos I was testing a video I'd just loaded onto it. only had it happen that once so far. |

I need a mac to jailbreak mineno you don't. look for touchFREE. It's for the PC and it cuts down the 70+ steps to about 7 or so... EDIT/ADD: touchFree: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=367947 Although the instructions said that restoring your ipod before starting is optional, mine wouldn't connect via ssh. But after doing a restore and running the thing again, everything worked fine. oh and you NEED to be able to connect your ipod to your wifi network to perfrom the jailbreak. last edited by Fish at 15:46:13 14/Oct/07 |

3dee, i used WinSCP to transfer the files. It'll take a while to connect (WinSCP will give you a dialogue with an 'abort' button as it's trying to connect... don't click it).
also, to be on teh safe side, change the root password and/or use the services app to disable ssh when you're not using it. |

Its all good. Got it working. Though copied the GMM.framework into System/Library/Framework/ then copied all the the Maps.app folder but Maps opens up and just sits there frozen then quits. Even after rebooting the iPod.

Make sure you set permissions for everything in the maps.app & the GMM.framework directories to 755
Well, you only need to set a few files specifically, but i don't know which ones, so i just set all of them. |

Anyone know where you can get Touch accessories? I'm really after a case that has a belt clip so I can wear it to the gym wtihout worrying about dropping weights on it while it's in my pocket.

This is question that peeps might be able to asnwer regardless of an iPod - when I use WinSCP to login to my ipod it says connection refused even though I'm just using the same saved setting that worked perfectly last night. Any ideas?
Am I forgetting a setting on my iPod that I'm meant to do first? |

Well, if you've installed the services app, you might have turned off SSH which would be giving your connection refused errors...
Or your ipod's ip might have changed (depending on how you've setup your wifi network) otherwise it could be the firewall on your PC blocking WinSCP's outbound connection |
