I'm stealing this thread off another gaming forum, it turned into an epic discussion with some pretty cool stories about past gaming glory.
Essentially you just boast about past (or current if you're still a nerd) experiences where you won tournaments, your clan was #1 in Australia, you did something groundbreaking at the time (new strat perhaps?), you helped create a mod, you created maps that were placed in permanent rotation... etc anything. Most people have grown out of hardcore gaming, but I'm wagering probably the majority of people here at some point did the whole 10 hours a day thing. -Jediknight 1 and Mysteries of the Sith on the "Zone", being essentially undefeated and one of the top players (definetely top "Jedi") in the world with 1300 ping. I also created a map (first ever) which only got 2/5 stars and the map reviewers claimed it was 'boxy' but it got played regularly in the international scene. -Action Quake 2, [rM] (remorseless military which I was leader) were the top clan in the scene. We only lost 1 war in the entire life of the mod against ~tDM, who we later pwned in a rematch. This was my first real experience with "LPBs" who were the devils of the gaming community with there 30 ping and every clan fought hard to sign them on. -Age of Empires 2, having a rating above 2000. I can't remember exactly what that ranked me in the world, near the top 10 (maybe inside?). I used to train for around 8 hours a day, everyone above 1950 rated were typically Koreans. Won a few tournaments (a lot run by the biggest AOE2 site at the time MrFixitOnline) and tallied up maybe $2 - 2.5k which was pretty brutal for a 15 - 16yo. Hopefully this thread works, in the other forum it turned out great. No flaming. |

Quakeworld comp way back in the day - I was in "Dead Jesters" clan and we got 2nd or 3rd place in the comp.. was very cool.
Kinda relevant, but met up with a bunch of awesome guys from a clan in Sydney when they came upto the Gold Coast, had an pretty great time with them. |

Epic thread. Last year I was crowned Gameserve RTS Champion of the year. It was the COH final, and I was down to 5 tickets left, vs my opponents ~150. I made a massive push with about 10 seconds left before i would of lost and took back all 3 victory points, and held them all the way to the end of the game. I felt pretty awesome that day. As a reword for my efforts, I won a tropthy. This gave birth to the immortal (among us GSers) quote: "They may have lives! But I've got a piece of wood with a half a hard drive stuck to it!" |

making a complete mockery of a game for the top position on the first cs gamearena ladder against 12m infront of a full hltv.
rips fighting off 3 cogs in toontown asking for help. Tow and I help her by giving her moral support "Toontastic!" "Well done team!" until she proceeds to die Being asked to fill in for my first and only DOD match and killing the my entire team with a grenade in the first second of the game. |

I could go on about all the awesome Q2 and Q3 tdm and CTF matches I won, but everyone already knows how good I am so I'll instead share some less conventional good gaming times.
Driving backwards around the track in the early rounds of the QGL grand prix legends tournament (or one of those dead boring racing sims) and crashing into some of the players that were legitimately trying to win. Playing rally masters around at limps' house with boba/cypr/sven and metal and everyone making that honk air horn noise every 30 seconds for an entire night. |

Most memorable would be quake teamdm in 98, we were locked down on dm3 with AOT timing powerups. Somehow after running around the entire map trying to avoid people, Lobsta and I managed to get a rocket launcher each. Killed frog at YA, opened the game right up and in the end we won.

Another time would be in the last MotherLAN. We were playing COD2 CTF. We were down by 1 flag, with about 30 seconds to go, We capture the flag to even it up, and straight away we got their flag again. Racing against the clock, our entire team of 8 surrounds the flag bearer as we all scream out GO RUN etc. We get to our base, and the enemy team is waiting for us, we just run in and mow them down, and capture with 2 seconds remaining. The entire team screamed out. It was like zomg.. in the final moment we were like in a triangle formation and it all seemed like it was in slow motion. Best cod2 match ever. The first time I played BF2142 we were at a lan, I was running around and saw a turret. it was just on the other side of a hill, only the top could be seen. as I got closer I saw it and shouted out "OH s*** IT'S A f***ING MECH" as I got obliterated. The whole room cracked up :D |

iV going from 8th in the 4th BF42 season on GA when finals started, through to the grand final, taking pretty big heavyweights AEF and 6P, whilst still just being a "casual" clan that didnt scrim/train
man those were some good days |

Until early this year i was tied with 3 other people in Australia as the most paid online gamer.
I played BF42 with "heavyweights" 6pack and won the GA ladder twice. However the cash came from winning the Cyberslam BF:vietnam tournament which we beat LT in the grandfinal, this gave each player $1500. We then came second in the BF2 EA sponsored season picking up $1k each. Then i played with them in BF2142, and they won the Australia wide comp and were flown to Taipei to play in the regional finals, i couldn't attend due to uni. Currently no great games out to play so 6Pack are on hiatus. On a side note, me and 2 of my RL mates got to 3rd in the 3v3 ladder in Warcraft3 in the North American/Oceania region. still managed to have a life ontop of this :-p |

coming first in the qgl cs finals 2000. i got a leet qgl trophy! i'm gonna sell it on ebay for millions.
also cs, coming third at CPL in melb after slawing our way through the toughest clans. we had the hardest draw possible but still pulled through. i was in the f***ing zone that day. beating 12m on de_train was unforgettable. they had a huge lead on us and it was looking pretty grim, so i rallied my troops and used some uber decoy tactics.. then we caused the biggest upset comeback ever and didnt lose a single round after that. SAS was f***ing awesome. we used to hustle all the netcafe cs comps too. other than that, RQR rocked the dod world. we won gamearena ladder and heaps of other s***. we also came first in the qgl wolfenstein comp. ch-ching. many more epic wins in various games but you get the idea.. basically i rule. |

Heh cool thread
Some things in rough chronological order: 1) Seeing an ad in the newspaper for a Doom competition at an Internet cafe. This was back in like '95 I think when an Internet cafe was a new and exciting thing (not to mention multiplayer competitive gaming). I turned up, wiped the floor with a bunch of newbs and won like $100 or something. 2) At uni, blahnana told me about some ninja Doom player guy who was playing a lot in the old Commerce labs at UQ. Went down at lunch time and played him in stargate.wad and smashed him. This was plok, and then he went off to like Shaolin or somes*** and started using the mouse and then routinely kicked my ass. 3) Armageddon 2, the clan of asha'man had their first trial by fire - me, b2, dranged plus some other guys not from QGL - we ended up winning (playing in sweltering summer heat with no airconditioning in a small concrete room with just fans blowing hot air around). We won ourselves a space orb. 4) Armageddon 3, which was probably Brisbane's first really big official high class competitive LAN - I think maybe 100 people turned up. I somehow made my way through the first rounds (just by being good at FFA, really - round 1, 2, 3 and 4 scores from the FFA part of the comp - imagine the screams that would ensue now if someone tried to organise a duel comp by making the first rounds FFA, heh), and then ended up in the final playing Bro (that's Bro, one of the main dudes behind TF). Until that game against Bro, I'd never played a "real" duel (FFA fo life), so it was really nerve-wracking and he handed my ass to me on a plate. I remember the game was on the big screen and at one point I finally got a frag and everyone cheered. Bro also had one of the first 3d accelerators - not a proper one, but it was still pretty near. This was back in the day of pure software rendering, baby. I scored a cool joystick. 5) Went to Gibcon in Sydney (my first non-Brisbane LAN) that I went to with the CLAN WAR guys - me, dethon, whitey, and kabas. We flew down, practiced a bit in our hotels, then I think we went on to win the q2 tdm competition? I came second (by ONE FRAG) in the Q2 FFA competition and just missed out on some great prize, but I still scored something cool (IIRC, a Diamond Monster Sound Card). Dethon won the Quake(World?) FFA comp. I think it was QuakeWorld, because I think I remember the delicious irony of all us Queenslanders not wanting to play QuakeWorld on LAN (it's for Internet play only, you mexican nubs, as we would loudly declare, especially Jim and demon, IIRC), and then a Queenslander ended up winning the QW comp. 6) WAR then went to Impulse 99 (cool 360 degree panorama, a big LAN organised in Melbourne. Our luck didn't fare so well there and we didn't make it too far in the Q2 rounds, but did pretty well in general. I somehow made it into the later rounds of the Quake 2 duels (I wasn't even going to play in the duel comp, but Dethon talked me into it). I ended up knocking out one of the favourites by being a red armour camping little BITCH, much to the frustration of whoever it was that I played - I was apologising to him during the match each time I killed him as well, because it was always the same way - he'd come barreling up to get the red armour and I'd already have _just_ taken it and then would shoot him in the face with the railgun. Poor bastard. I didn't make it much further after that. 7) After that I didn't really do much else competitively, at least not seriously - the skill bar just got raised too high by the time Quake 3 came out, and I was perfectly content to railgun people in Q3DM17 and giggle as they fell of the edge. I played in a few Q3 comps (mostly CTF) but didn't get too far in any of them. I did win some comp at an old Regen LAN (the precursor to QGL), and hahaahahah at the hilariously young trog and term combo. When Counter-Strike took hold I lost of a lot of interest - I still maintain to this day that round-based games are a lame way to try to bring gaming to the masses in a way that is interesting to watch and not really, really boring to play - so now most of my gameplay is very casual. I'd love to play in a Q3CTF competition though. Since then I haven't had much to do with games. Well, playing them, anyway :) Good memories though! |

Being undefeated in the last 7 years in any Australian Quake3 tournament (be it online or on LAN). Winning Ausgamers National Championships inside of those 7 years (zomg trophy!) heh.
Slapping qld'ers and melb's in q3 ctf and tdm :D Coming 6th at the CPL World Championships in December last year. Having travelled all around the world representing Australia in q3! :O |

SAS (Capt0, Ross, Strex, Jax and (can't remember, f*** I suck!) at CPLP, playing in one of their rounds, with Deeper behind them coaching and Storm and Fade looking on. SAS after coming third after kicking some f***ing ass in some really close CS games.

taking pretty big heavyweights AEFhaha i nearly spat my bourbon out at that. (having been, and apparently still being an AEF member) um GA season one of BF1942 with 1st Infantry - winning the season undefeated (then noone practising in season two, some people leaving ending up in us losing and eventually disbanding through lack of interest). got a '1st's bf1942 server' on ga for our efforts for a while The same time as the s1 bf1942 ga ladder, the oceanic league bf1942 comp. we won that aswell. got some prizes smashing rqr and making toll spit the dummy, winning a 6v6? bf1942 comp at qgl with the lads from 1st. tightasses gave us nothing. just aswell i didnt realise i had to pay for all the cokes i was drinking (actually i did hand over $10 when i finally realised). winning at the gold coast lan thing (cant remember name) at bf1942 with the 1st lads again. some prize money for that Practising hard in bf2 for the ga $40k comp with AEF.bw only to drop myself from the team to run/admin the comp instead of playing in it. the team came third. (sorry malth) losing my life to wow for a year was also glorious also volunteering thousands of hours to ga and constantly getting abused by a bunch of f***ing retards is still glorious |

Ok if it's everything
98 Quake team dm(Mofo) 99 QGL q3 teamdm(Jor), q3 ctf(Jor), Equal 3rd I think in dueling. Was suppose to play sven but he was pretty high at the time. After that it was a bit of a blur cause it was all online stuff. Playing Quakeworld teamdm with ICEY. I think we got second in some Aus Q3 ctf comp, I can't even remember what team I was in(Maybe Jor), pretty sure we got beaten by pythons team but we took it to 3 maps. Got to play in an invitational q3 duel comp with the best players in Aus. Some other qld comps which was mainly just smashing newbs while in Jor. |

Yeh Shad, it was against FxR (my team then).
Trog: believe it or not, I'm 19 there! lol, I lost to Fatality playing with a broken razer mouse :(..I think every razer mouse was broken back then. All my glory is in quake3 mainly, oh and at the end of the quake2 (mid 1998 onwards to the release of quake3). Nothing like slapping Borg by 50+ on q2dm1 :D Oh and one of the better highlights was beating someone who actually used a bot against me! 1) Being called an aimbotter in Ghost Recon by my friends, and later had matches against me described as "You hide in a building, poke your head out for a fleeting moment and BAM!" was pretty cool.
2) School-based Halo LANs. "Finius has joined the game" "Finius has killed (name)" "Finius has killed (name)" "Finius has killed (name)" "Finius has killed (name)" "Finius has killed (name)" "Finius has killed (name)" And so on and so on. Kinda sad really. Recently people started playing Halo Trial at my newest school. Vehicle-whores, all of them. I join late, and win, without touching a vehicle. DULL. |

All the awesome VLANs put together by Ash, Chapps and Doc, with a heap of players coming up from interstate for some intense Q3. The rumours were true, there was in fact a stripper at the first VLAN. The reason being Fez had just broken up with his gf and had come up from Sydney especially. Vadge beer spray action and V beat CFu at TDM.
Q3 was my game, but the main competition I remember winning was UT2003 instagib at NudgeeLAN. Absolutely blitzed it even with Capt0 and Chod ganging me. I won a red LED for my case :D |

being the 6th worldwide High Commander in boneyards at total annihaliation.. 2 memorable games i can think off.. 1 where i was a dead man.. only had 1 hidden nuke and a commander.. made a calculated guess at where his commander was at and managed to blind nuke him and win the game. another was a tight match that was going for about 1.5 hours on a metal map.. couldnt find a way into his base.. made 8 roach bombs and set them off with precision right over his left wall and had mavs and planes ready to go in.. was very cool
killing a team of 5 people who were grouped up and were in a top server guild questing some s*** in eastern plaguelands .. followed them around for about 20 mins planning the attack.. finally sapped 1.. mind controlled the warrior smashed the priest and druid who stayed in cat lol killed the sap then killed the warrior and rogue with about 25hp to spare i loled real hard also i was accused of cheating in wow cause of my supreme flag caps in AB.. once around 7 ppl were standing around the farm and i go up and cap it right in front of them f***in lol also another time when 3 of us - rogue, mage (me) and paly killed 14 people at the same time in wpl was f***in hilarious |

hhahah I am mucho too good for you all with those glasses in that space orb pic!
Reason? Only came third (within the team) or something! I used to routinely terrorize most of the oldschool QGL massive back on the old regen server in the powerup days. It was sooooo addictive. 15v1 CTF matches were not uncommon -I swear some of you would have bashed me IRL if we had met! The Access One servers were bloody fantastic too. Was 1st in QuakeWorld rankings in its year of inception, I think that was 96, that was in kills, ratio and points. QW really sucked tho, at least online, because it changed Quake into more like Daytona Racing, like what I mean is it became more user friendly by 'cheating' to simulate better competition. QW simulated speed at the expense of accuracy.. So lots of people got good. Q2 inherited this pseudo-competitive model and I kinda dropped out then. I think CS also reared it's disfigured, zombafied head about then.. :( I am hoping Crysis will provide the impetus I need to get back into FPS gaming.. |

Me and my old housemate finished Ikaruga once. While stoned.
In terms of multiplayer accomplishments, I invented the 'Drak Distract' method of kiting General Drakkisath into the Beast's chamber in UBRS. I used to LAN it up with a few hardcore gamer mates and we'd complete WoW instances at severely low levels with just 4 of us just to demonstrate how easy the game is. |

Turning up to QGL finals when I was a kid and wiping the floor with frog and warhammer in QW but i wasn't allowed to compete because I hadn't attended the lans coming up to the finals.
Wiping the floor with a player named harlsom 20 frags+ about 8 times in a row on every map with me on a s***house BPA connection and him on 20 ping. He had been playing 8 hours a day for the last 2 weeks in "training" for his trip to USA. He left a couple of days later and won the $10 000 comp. Beating everyone in Australia in QW duel with my s***e connection except Reload. Being in clan Icey with shad and others, including Reload. The best collection of duelers in the country coming together to attempt teamplay. Shad was the only one any good at teamplay but we still owned. Reload is the best gamer Aus has ever produced for those who aren't aware of who he was/is. Absolute freak but he only played QW. |

110 kills in 10 minuts on UQ Vanilla Quake 2 DM on slime.
I noob-tubed (nade launcher) everyone to death and won the QGL SOF2 competition. Won the QGL RTCW comp teaming up with some RQR dudes (I think it was??) |

You set them straight Reso ......... Cfu winning The Bunker one and only Q3 comp :) .... Got some cash for that which was cool. It think it was BK, Reso, Knoz, me and someone else that I can't remember. Had a blast playing in all the great Q2 & Q3 CTF/TDM matchs in QGL and OCQL online comp. Oh yeah going to GGF and beating TLG ....... last edited by Cfu at 22:17:45 16/Sep/07 |

This is all for counter-strike...
CPL Australia 2002 - 1st (fzero) CPL World Championships Summer 2002 - 13th (fzero) Ausgamers League 2003 - 1st (nK) TBGL Season 1 - 1st (nK) TBGL Season 2 - 1st (nK) TBGL Season 3 - 1st (nK) Big Day In 2003 - 1st (nK) + lots of Gameserve Sieges and weekend tournaments. Claims to fame... - Caused a CPL rule change for future CPLs after beating the #1 CPL seed and throwing smokes over the roof on de_cbble. - Started the low friction sprays on mousing surfaces trend (wd40, silicon spray etc) - Started the whole 1 vs 16 knifes bot training thing - in some documentary called "gamers". - called out that weirdo who was jerkin the gherkin at qgl over the PA system. |

Mario Kart 64
My friend laughing at my sorry ass, miles behind him. He said he'd give me $20 if I could beat him. Well I got a golden mushroom, and started hammering the controller, and closed the gap fast. The finishing was approaching and his laughter died, as my flaming Kart passed his just as we crossed the line. Beat him by 2/100ths of a second. |

This is a cool thread. Everybody loves the glory days!
1/ Meeting my eventual GZI clan mates, while lanning at a work mates place (we were lanning Rise of the triad and Shadow Warrior (lowang)). To this day I still randomly snicker to myself "Sticky bomb loves you" hehehe. 2/ Meeting Saint while working at Cost Plus computers, then playing some organised Q2CTF games at the Browns Plains scout hall, with a loaded up Grumpy playing "defence" fully loaded up, yet too scared to actually shoot at us. 3/ Countless LAN's at my parents old place in brisvegas, with my sister grumpily telling us all to be quiet at all hours of the night, and the Appollo-13-esque staged PC turn on's to prevent power outages. Starcraft "Free For All's" will hold a fond place in many-a-heart. 4/ Attending our first QGL, playing some good old fashioned Q2CTF - only to have Avalon nearly throw down with Reaps, for alleged cheating. I remember Jim making mischief at the same time as well :) 5/ Taking Diablo 2 and the expansion too seriously - the the extent that the weekend after both the release of the original game (and the ex pack), we'd organised a LAN to play the game from start to finish, with Lash, Avalon, Mega, Saint, Bad, Trevor, Grant and maybe Zorba and Anton along for the ride as well. 6/ Coming up with the name GZI (which I've since forgotten what it stands for) after a long discussion about calling the clan "South east mongolian motherf***ers"...... 7/ Leading GZI to Q2CTF online glory, joining the tournament with ZT at the height of thier powers, along with 69, KR and a bunch of others. We came second for the first full season we played, then dominated for seasons 2 & 3 before the Q2CTF scene came to a crashing halt thanks to Q3. When broadband started to beocme more widespread, we'd all drive to one of the guys places and play from there - leading to all sorts of crazy rules trying to stop us doing so. I still watch some of the old GZI Q2 demos from time to time. We owned :P Saint & Grey on defence, Lash & Bad on offence and Avalon & I roaming the midfield; it just doesn't get better. 8/ Awesome name calling sessions with a WA Q2CTF'er named "Fzoul" The guy hated GZI, for some reason. Good luck to him :P 9/ Countless battles with Q3CTF "superteam" MAX, and the "Swoon" team, Asha'poon (or is that Asha'man ;)) at QGL lan's. I still say they had individual skills, we had the teamwork down pat. We got drawn against them for the QGL 2000 semi final, 3 game series - and pulled out a stunner for game 1, but sadly that's where the fairytale ended. 10/ Being a QGL admin, helping to run both QGL lannage action and CPLP in melbourne, meeting Pyth, Ara & Jude when the crazy mexicans drove up (each at different times) 11/ Lanning with Pyth at Avalon's house, when he just wouldn't quit making a silly damn pikachu doll do its "Pika Pika" scream 12/ Coming down to Sydney with the GZI guys to play Q2CTF at MPU against the mexican Q2CTF gurus, Macksta, Quarrel, Jude & Q-ball. Our trip had its difficulties (2 broken PC's out of 5, 1 stolen pair of headphones @ MPU making for only 1 actual game). Going to Yum Cha with the mexican's to watch a Q-ball ask the waitress "want bummy". Charming! 13/ Actually getting a job out of being a gamer; as a Marketing assistant at a startup games website called "Gameloft". Heard of it? Didn't think so. Met Gobo while working there. 14/ Getting slapped silly by Gobo on the work Q3 lan. Damn that pissed me off. At least I handed him his ass playing CS, and Q2. 15/ Attending the X02 event with Ara, where they had real-live DOA beach volleyball happening inside. We found a great Khel look alike (there's a photo somewhere - Ara goes up and says "hey you look like a guy we know on a forum; can we take your picture") and there was a priceless moment when a drunk James Cottee (a games journo) was running up and down the skateboard ramp they'd setup. 16/ Having a LAN at my place in Sydney with Ash, Ara & Stagrr, where Stagrr was too cool to LAN and instead went to talk to the girls in the upstairs appartment. Nice :) Wow, 16 things. Take that Asha'swoon! last edited by Storm at 22:57:03 16/Sep/07 |

I also attended an Ausgamers LAN once. I think I lost 53-1 to BoBa in a duel comp in 2000? I remember this because the one frag I got was with my fist of death after hiding in a corner like a little girl. Another notable highlight of this duel was the fact that BoBa received a phone call during it...
I didn't suck that much though... I almost got Bones in a duel.. 17-18 on Tourney 4. After that I became an admin and was a surrogate Dad to half you punks for one weekend a month, the parents would always come to me cause I was the oldest... or at least looked the oldest... pah! Fending off loony people telling me I was polluting young minds... lotsa fun. |

Playing in my first q3 tournament at Vlan in 2005 I think it was and had some pretty fun times.
Highlights of that night: - 2 Flag caps ( I sucked bad at q3 back then this was a high achivement for me) - Nearly scoring a 3rd till I got railed by Guvna - Spamming Mame roms with guvna and 2 other guys (golden axe ftw) - Losing to shrapse in a 1v1 on pro-DM6 1-32 |

Chopper piloting excellence in Desert Combat - was involved on the pre-release testing team to track any changes to the chopper physics. Yet to see anybody who could beat me at aerobatic piloting in it.

So many good memories of lans............
1) The first Soul Assassins lan I ever attended. Thats where I met Nats, Skurj, Freddo, Keato, CarnRat etc. We had about 20 people in what I think was Pantsman's work at Stones Corner. Was a lot of fun, most were running their 4Mb Monster 3Ds. We played DM on some of Rats custom maps, I can't remember what he called it but some bloody pyramid map, it was my first DM win ever. 2) Our first ever organised Q2CTF tourney at Yeronga PS Hall. We got dial-up accounts from PowerUp for prizes. We (Soul Assassins)were all set to wipe the floor with Saint and his motley crew of wannabes, they surprised us on a map we hated and won. That was a very bitter taste.....not as bitter as watching a bunch of DMers called WAR obliterate Saint et al to win the CTF comp. Dam you Dethon asif you didn't get enough glory playing DM. 3) Our Soul Assassins road trip down to Sydney for some lan action. Skurj, Nats, Ross, Jolli and me drove down to Sydney.....stayed in the Cross. Was a very fun weekend, great lan.......made our Regen/QGL lans look a little pov. Won't say what else went on in the Cross, not really appropriate for this forum. There were heaps of great games we played at lans, I have never laughed so hard as when I saw Zephron and his mates in WOLF playing Q2CTF with 2 joysticks. |

I remember making SAS cry in a ctf comp because I kept firing the bfg into the ground in q2ctf1 or whatever it was ... very humourous.
Also .. Quake dm3 water area is the best designed piece of map ... EVER! |

i was alway a bit crap at fps games n had a wierd config just to make things difficult for myself ;p but i still had a heap of phat times when multiplayer gaming was taking off in brisbane, which i will list in no particular order.
my most memorable game was quakectf (of course!) when i was in the regeneration clan & a heap of regen guys & clan us guys arranged a lan at the lazerforce place where buba-(us) worked at the time. whitey & i arrived late & there weren't enough tables left for us to setup on so we had to setup our comps on a small raised platform that was carpetted & i'd left my mousepad at home :p anyways... had a few mixed team warmup games then we went 6v6 ctf on map e2m2 the ogre's citadel. in one of the closest quakectf games i ever played i stopped soth-(us) from making a winning cap with the last nail from my nailgun hitting him just before he capped. :D screenie. http://dem0n.qgl.org/images/qshotz/QUAKE17.jpg Other great times... the hilarity of playing mech warrior2 with the AoT guys especially whitey & 'binary man'. hehe. playing the all-nighter at jim's place at mooroochy & looking over to see whitey asleep at the comp face down on the keyboard. :D even more hilarity waking him up to go home n the key imprints in his face. The all-weekend clan-lan-yum at dethon's place... 24/7, turn up n setup any time of the day or night & get fraggin! :P So many times i walked in through that front door with my computer under my arm n before i could even say gday to anyone someone would scream my position at me n tell me to hurry up n get in the game!@#! mech patch on map drop. :P so many good times here they blur in my memory. any AoT lan with 'comrade tran' making his crazy sayings n noises which leter became part of quaking lingo. the sheer nG! of the 16hour plus games of TA till people cracked from insufficient sleep & just stopped building & went to sleep. :P good times. |

We need an old Q1 server up with the CTF runes and keys mod they used to run on powerup. If they throttle the bandwidth to increase the pings and run it on an old PPro 200 Server should be just like the old days. I used to love playing DM6 as a CTF map.....that was bedlam.

Racing against the clock, our entire team of 8 surrounds the flag bearer as we all scream out GO RUN etc. We get to our base, and the enemy team is waiting for us, we just run in and mow them down, and capture with 2 seconds remaining. The entire team screamed out. Pure luck, we had that game from teh start imo. |

Relive?
I'm still living them now :) -Winning various MK2 contests when they were the rage, first one @ Garden City -Spending $2 on SF2 for 3 hours worth of challenges at indooroopilly playtime :) -getting shafted at CPL twice in a row: getting crappy comps, that kept blue screening or rebooting in the middle of our matches the first time when major sponsor pulled out, and the 2nd time getting comps damaged in transit when we took them down with us -many local cs comp lan wins -biggest person for online game I threw a significant part of my life away on :P (glad I got that out of my system before mmorpgs really took over) -getting 30th in the world rankings for cs for a month or 2, when stats were cool back in beta 5.1 (yay not having to cheat) -finding out I got an OP 1 from having no hope at the start of year 11 -(insert other random geek stuff I still do :( athletics/swimming stuff here) I miss permafest and the lan days :( and for Jerds/Swat/Fade: (step in... BANG... step out ;) last edited by predat0r at 20:00:34 17/Sep/07 |

-Action Quake 2, [rM] (remorseless military which I was leader) were the top clan in the scene. We only lost 1 war in the entire life of the mod against ~tDM, who we later pwned in a rematch. This was my first real experience with "LPBs" who were the devils of the gaming community with there 30 ping and every clan fought hard to sign them on. buuuulllllsssshhhiiiiittttttt. =][consortium][= molested everyone in aq2 i won some cs comps aswell cpl.au, wcg.au and eswc.au, flying to the international events. beating 3D making ksharp cry. last edited by flatbeat at 14:04:15 18/Sep/07 |

i saw someone in page 1 or 2 claim that with his 5000 dollars (from memory) he was one of the highest paid pro-gamers in Australia had to laugh Im fairly sure that nK won a crap load more than that, certainly fzer0 did And then of course Legionnaire was a full time pr0gamer living all expenses paid in Korea for several years... and from memory there were a few others that made it to the pro series in korea like Razor etc |

I have fond memories of handing over a lot of the QGL phatlewts to the fzer0 guys. Even though they played a lame game they were all good blokes that played fair and had fun. Pretty much all the good clans that came to QGL were like that though.

The cs dudes that just won CGS.au won like 2k each + airfares to Asia for the next round of competition. If they win that I think they goto CGS in the USA to be full time gamers or something.

regarding the PCPP article, I worked on GraffitiLuv (the title story of the feature article). The first iteration, a virtual environment developed in Unreal Engine has been to design festivals in Hong Kong and around Japan.
The tangible project extension is apparently being used at QUT open day's etc for the CI faculty. My mate who came up with the original concept etc is a pro designer and now working for a design team on Madison Avenue designing s*** for Nokia and a lot of Rap Industry stuff, like P Diddy's clothing line websites/promo stuff, and the motion graphics for MTVs VMAs etc.. last edited by partyhat at 00:48:13 19/Sep/07 last edited by partyhat at 00:50:21 19/Sep/07 |
