Topic: Nothing with SSL works

Some of you may remember I was whinging about my Gmail and Facebook not working.

Well the problem is more defined now, nothing that uses SSL will load on my machine.

Im on BPA cable, and its split via router to a Mac in the next room, and everything on it works fine. Afaik that rules out the router/connection as the problem.

Its been like this for the last few weeks. It started working for a couple of hours yesterday arvo, but now its stopped again.

Any ideas?

Default your IE. If that fails, if you already tried with multiple browsers. Disable all non ms services.

Make sure your Cipher strength in IE is set to 128bit (Help > About IE).
Check that SSL is enabled in Firefox or whatever other browser you use. Maybe these have been disabled. Maybe try re-register schannel.dll as well.

See if you can even open a TCP/IP connection on the SSL port. Unless you speak HTTPS you won't be able to do anything though, really we're just testing connectivity here:

telnet www.google.com 443
^]

And may as well verify plain old HTTP works ok too, using the same technique, as comparison:

telnet www.google.com 80
GET / HTTP/1.0

(press enter twice)

Get windump, and turn on full windows firewall logging, see what is happening with the packets. Do logging at your gateway too if possible.

sometimes malware can cause problems with https sites, you might want to do the usual security check stuff Maxe.
