I was worried ep 2 wouldn't hold up but I burst out laughing at one particular scene. This show is going to be awesome. Hopefully channel 10 doesn't spoil it for australian audiences by over-promoting.

right now i'm hooked.

it may be 2 (nearly 3) eps behind, but how censored is it going to be? I will be surprised (pleasantly, though over using brackets) if it airs without them cutting nudity or some language.

Ok, I understand downloading shows when we're 6 months+ behind and it's getting bumped from bad timeslot to worse... I even understand it when we're a few weeks behind. But is the same night really that big a deal. Are people really that impatient that they can't wait a couple of days or even a week to see something that has only been broadcast on the other side of the world?

If you can download it a week before a local TV station can air it, clearly the local TV stations are doing it wrong.

Plus there are no ads which ruin tv shows. Even if it aired at exactly the same time I'd still leech it.

and for the convenience. I have a show downloaded in 15 minutes. It's advert free and i can watch it when i want, straight after or immediately before watching whatever other show i watch that comes out the same day.

The only tv i watch live is the news.

Pity the ads pay for the show, so leeching the show to avoid ads ends up in the show getting canned and then we all complain that there is nothing good on TV.

You need a faster connection dude :P I hardly even bother queuing/scheduling my downloads any more. Get home from work, fire up torrent for show of choice and it's down and ready to watch by the time my food is heated up in the microwave.

Bit of a golden age we have at the moment really, wonder how long it will last before the networks figure out some kind of protection that actually works.

In the US maybe, australian stations handing over their pittance is just gravy. I purchase good series when they hit DVD and re-watch anyway, so they will get more per-episode out of me than channel 10 pays them per expected viewer.

i only have adsl1+ which is why it takes 15 mins an episode. But that isn't a problem, it's way quicker than i need.

Ad revenue is calculated based on estimated viewer ratings. If you don't have a ratings box in your house, they can't tell what you're watching anyway.

The way they've carried on in the ads about how racy and rude it is, they better not cut anything.

I'll give free-to-air a chance to deliver on this one but if they cut anything or f*** up in the slightest, I'm gone. So someone that's seen it will have to watch the FTA one to check for me :)

The more they bitch the more people will watch it the likelier it is to not get canned.

Right now, based on the fact that it is a show i enjoy immensely, which is aimed at adults and has good characters and dialogue, i expect it to get canned in about 3 more episodes, with the remainder of the season being dragged out over the next 6 months or not shown at all until released on DVD.

from news.com.au.

OUTRAGED family groups will be calling for a national boycott of any sponsor of the Ten Network’s drugs, sex and vomit-laden program Californication.

Following last night’s episode - which depicted two characters smoking marijuana and having sex before one vomited - furious community groups have said they are hoping something can be done to get the show off the air.

i hate when these groups try to censor something because they don't believe people should have the CHOICE to watch it or not.

it is already on at 9:30pm with warnings before it is aired about it's content. why are they watching it and/or letting their kids watch it if they are worried about the content.

furthermore, if they aren't watching it, why do they care if other people who CHOOSE to watch it are?

haha god loves this show because god created marijuana enduced vomit-sex. Best scene of the year award IMO :P

If the internet did not exist it would be very worrying that a tv station could fold to public (read: s***ty conservative) pressure. I really wish Australian tv stations would take up the kind of service which many American stations already provide - Ad funded streaming off the net. I would gladly make use of such a service (since its so easy to alt-tab when pre-show ads are on :P) and it would be great to not 'STEAL' to see great tv which is somehow denied to us because its so hard to make s*** economically viable when you have as few people as we do to fill up viewership.

Get with the times Australia you f***ing backwards s***hole. (electronically speaking)

Why can't they get it through their thick skulls that they have a choice whether or not they watch it. And as for children watching it, if your kids are up at 9:30 and you don't have enough control to stop them watching it, it is about your parenting skills, not the channels viewing schedule

In all seriousness, I think we should organise a group of people to call Channel 10 in support of the show.

In a lot of these situations, they just get a bunch of whining religious types that complain, with the goal of tying up so many of their resources (and essentially costing them money) that it becomes not worth the effort to run the show.

Without clear shows of support the risk is the show will get axed and we'll be back at square f***ing one with more crappy Australian television shows - or worse, we'll end up like US free to air, which is utterly terribly sanitized.

If some of you guys are actually willing to help out with this (ie, at least make a phone call to channel 10 yourself) I'll get a news post up with some details about who to call, etc.

gold from Blunt Instrument, i think he's saying what we are all thinking

Who do you people think you are? I see you're at it again, coming on all gimlet-eyed and thin-lipped with poor old Network Ten, threatening to boycott any of their advertisers who displease you by spruiking their wares during Californication, and all because the opening scene featured a dream sequence of David Duchovny being orally pleasured by a winsome nun.

You know, if you don't like it, you got a perfectly good censor button right there on your remote. It's called the off switch. In fact, you got a whole bunch of them. Turn over or turn off because I got some sour news for you preachy gimps, not everyone is as easily offended as you. In fact, some of us are vastly amused and entertained by Mr Duchovny smoking dope and having sex and generally behaving in manner we'd all like to become accustomed to.
