After living in a muddy hole up to his hips and fighting over a few feet of ground while surviving on rancid tins of meat and weevil infested biscuits for several months with the constant fear of either being shot or bombed or gassed I imagine dying was the most pleasurable thing that he had experienced in some time.

I don't know what's sadder, the attempted comedy at the expense of some guy who died giving us the freedom we have today, or the fact that fpot found the photo in a site that is surrounded by love match links.

Show some fark'n respect you miserable bunch of ungrateful kids. How would you feel if that was you, lying in the mud, giving the ultimate sacrifice so a bunch of pathetic children can poke fun at you whilst they are exercising the freedom that you gave your life for. If it wasn't for guys like them, then we would be living it a world that would be markedly different to the one we have today. You guys get to go out on the town with your mates, whilst this guy got to spend his good years ducking and weaving bullets in the mud, watching his mates get killed around him. He gave you that lifestyle, don't take that away from him so you can simply get a few laughs.

Actually I suspect most of them had about as much choice in the matter as the french, russians, english etc. WW1 wasn't a war against democracy and freedom, it was a war that really doesn't have real reason. It was basically a giant pissing contest that the pommy/french alliance won and lots of people died.

Actually, if I had died in a war and my image was found like that and turned into an internet meme I'd be pretty stoked. I'd be happy to be remembered/noticed. I may just be a punk kid but at least I'm wise enough to see the plus side to a situation and realise that the glass is always half full.
