My MX1000 has periodically started to slow down / start jumping all over the place and generally be a pain in the ass. The laser looks clean, the battery is charged, and I've not changed the placement of the receiver since I bought it, so I figure it's on it's way out. Time for a new mouse I guess. What's good? I don't need any super-hardcore gaming mouse or anything. Just something comfortable, functional, and wireless. In fact, something similar to the MX1000 would be good. Oh and it'd be nice if I did wanna play an FPS or something if it didn't skip all over the screen with any fast flick action. Any suggestions? It's been a while since I bought a mouse. |

logitech g5 here. its pretty rad, i like logitech ones cause they're nice and heavy.
though if you're on a budget it's probably not really worth the price |

go the logitech G7 for around $100. Its a wireless laser mouse and gets pretty good reviews but I mean its $100 so it should. Does the g5 come with swappable battery packs like the G7?
my bad G5 is USB mouse isnt it.. last edited by Alize` at 18:44:36 17/Aug/07 |

I have a G7 it is a really nice mouse but at less the a year old the batteries have started lasting only a couple of days before needing to be swapped.
I use my mouse pretty much all day atleast 5days a week for work so maybe that is expected but im sure it use to last longer originally. |

My mx1000 is sucking at holding charge these days, I want to replace it but I need the third button on the side for closing applications. That g9 looks like a f***ing great replacement for comfortability compared to any other logitech atm. Nothing else feels as comfortable as the mx1000.

I have a G5 and it's great. Basically the same as a G7 except it's the corded version so you don't have to worry about dying batteries etc.

the batteries last forever in my g7. i never turn the mouse off either. plus it has a cool little battery indicator that tells you when its about to die. it only takes about 10 secs to change batteries.

I bought an MX400 for my new PC at home and I really don't like it compared to my MX500. It's got some weird scroll wheel s*** where you can move the whole scroll wheel left and right to get some extra buttons - I don't like it because I heavily rely on middle clicking for, well, everything and the middle click functionality is really awkward now because of it.
I've ended up rebinding the left/right middle wheel clicking thing to "middle mouse click" now which makes it a bit easier, but the transition between my work mouse and home mouse is still annoying. I'll have to check out the MX518, thanks LeCock |

If you're spending ~$100, wouldn't you might as well just get the MX Revolution?

I've been keeping an eye out for the 518's and haven't been able to find one so far :(
I have the exact same problem on my g5 with that tilt wheel trog, ended up binding them to DO NOTHING. Still doesn't help for games since mouse3 used to be my use button :( |

Using left and right scrolling is virtually useless if you're using a good resolution these days. I've never had to actually use it yet. Pretty useless in my opinion although someone using different software may disagree?

I've got an MX Revolution and I love it. It has the big chunky feel of the old Mouseman+ which I always loved, and the free scrolling mousewheel is just beyond awesome, the mouse is worth it purely for that feature alone. I hope that feature filters down and logitech start putting it on their other mice, cos its the best new thing to be added to mice since they went optical.

mx518 = mx500 "v 2.0" so to speak, so no point looking for a mx500.
That said, the two thumb button G5 i referred to earlier in this thread seems preety much identical to the old mx500 / mx518 design except they've moved the positions of the "sensitivity buttons" (i just bind them to other commands anyway), added the weights & that tilting mouse wheel. I'd recommend that over mx518 anyway. Note that I currently have an mx518 but want to upgrade to either G5 2thumb or G9. & looking at the G7 it seems to be a cordless version of the g5 without the extra thumb button. And to throw an extra mouse into the mix, Microsoft & Razor have teamed up to make the "Habu", which has the same button layout as a G5, & mixed the shape of the "Diamond Back" & "IntelliMouse v3.0". That maybe your bag if for some reason your "anti-logitech" http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=092&active_tab=systemRequirements Hmmm, how much of a nerd Am I? Hope my ramblings were informative |
