This forum post seems to indicate the Alibi room serves REAL absinthe but I thought that was illegal here? It seemed to me all the "absinthe" being sold here was just strong alcohol branded as absinthe, but without the absinthium, which that post claims is definitly present in the Absinthe served at that bar.

So what's the go? Am I wrong about the laws, are they doing a dodgy, is it legal?

They server half assed absynthe. The real s*** is much harder. You can get it if you get it sent from france to that US service that forward s*** to here. I've had the hard stuff and its wack.

you can buy 'real' absinthe from the bottle shop - it has wormwood in it, just a very small ammount. absinthe is all hype anyway

What's the big deal about it? I used to be a big fan of OP Rum but now I realise it just puts me on another planet and pretty much ends my night... or effectively blacks out anything that happens so really what's the point?

i bought a couple of bottles back from amsterdam its kick ass i didnt expect to get it past customs, to get the real effects you need to take a fair bit say 4 or so shots and you only really notice it for the first half hour or so before you start feeling the effects of the alcohol.

The effects are different to that of alcohol but don't go expecting some full blown hallucinations or anything, basically you just get a really buzzy glowing feeling happening kind of like being drunk without the messy intoxication bit, everything gets a soft lens effect but you can still think straight.. that is until the alcohol kicks in.

Um... Absynthe in australia doesn't contain wormwood.

even if it does make you trip out, you're simply too s***faced to have a clue whats going on / remember anything the next morning.

drink some beers and eat a tab or two, you'll have more fun guaranteed!

Yeah i had a shot called Absynth Minded in this vodka bar in edinburgh the other night, it had 3 different types of Absynth, all real and with wormwood or whatever, it was pretty wacked.

You are allowed to import the wormwood stuff into Australia just not sell it.

Good stuff though you need 4 or so shots to notice the other effects and by that time you are quite drunk anwyays.

I had heaps of absynth with my sister in the czech repbulic, I nearly died, it was f***ing awesome.

I had a shot of it here not too long ago and nearly spewed, it was just a horrid joke.

we had a couple of guys at work bring absinthe into work drinks (showing off)

first bottle was the blue 80% stuff, and i sneakily had 5 shots of it while people werent looking

i was a mess

the next week a guy bought in a different bottle of it, was only 60%, but had the same affect, i was a bit scared of it this time though and only had 1 shot

I believe it is, they're only illegal in dry form, or you're caught selling them/obviously intending to consume them.

A cop can't arrest you for picking a mushroom out of the ground and eating it, they don't control nature.

that's in Mexico, here you can be busted if there is evidence you were picking mushrooms containing psilocybin, like a bag of mushroom you ditched nearby.

While you're likely to get away without being caught, there are certainly many laws that relate to the environment such as ones protecting removal of flora and fauna, cultivation of certain crops like tobacco, coffee, canabis, collecting psilocybin mushrooms, and trespassing which is probably occuring here and that's what you're most likely to get busted for, and the illegal mushrooms could be used to beef up your charges or to persuade you into a plea etc...

Cops don't know what psilocybin mushroom looks like, your standard tripper doesn't even have a clue.
