Hey guys,

Got a few questions on visas and s*** for the European Union countries!
I plan to maybe go overseas in 2-2.5 years, to stay for at least 12 months.
I will be a fully CA qualified accountant by that stage (providing I pass everything). Is there some form of skilled-workers visa I can get that allows me to stay longer? Or easier to get a visa? I'd want to work as an accountant for sure.

Another couple of friends who will be older than the 27 cut off or whatever it is. What can they do? One has 2 german grandparents - whats the deal with that?

Is there an easy english site that has all this kinda stuff? Did a google a few times but not really much on the specifics.

google is pretty good, if you only speak english then youre restricted to a few countries like the uk, ireland and from what people say holland

through ancestry you can get european passports but each country usualy has different rules

pretty sure they could get a german passport, but i dunno the rules for applying. my mates grandfather is italian but he cant get an italian passport because his dad doesnt want one.

fireblood - I'm looking at doing a similar thing somewhat soonish (as soon as I get off my arse and start passing some CA subjects).

Make sure you check out the website of the embassy of the countries that you intend to visit - they seem to have the best info. You can also get bits and pieces from DFAT and the like.

The other option is to find people who have gone and quiz them.

uk - hsmp (highly skilled migrant visa). or get the vinilla 2 year working holiday maker visa, no one gives a f*** about the "can only work 12months"

30 is now the age for alot of places (changed about 2005 for the UK anyway)

most europ grand parrents dont mean s***. their mum or dad would have to get the EU passport, then they could. malta is passing a bill at the mo for second generation passports. even you UK you can only get a 4 year ancestery visa.

there are lots of third party companies esp in the UK that can help. www.firstcontact.com is a big one, but they charge. I just paid a £1000 for my new work permit.

most of the times, the consulates have a premium rate number. i know alot here are like £1 a minute.

How far through the CA are you? How many subjects have ya failed? :( Basically if I fail a subject it will put my plans back 6 months :( I did a advanced tax subject to hopefully help me with the tax CA subject to make it a little easier.

lol! mate, all my accountant mates are aussies. ones on about 60k, gets sent to azerbijan for a few months (all expenses paid), so when he gets back into town hes out of control.

its just rent that is the killer. beers ect are cheap. example, the walky does £6 jugs on sunday (4.5 pints). 2 jugs is all you need for a night.

in Holland they are cracking down on the skilled worker visa..

i have heard of a few people who have been working here for years and when they went to renew there visa they were told to leave the country..

basically you need a boss who will bulls*** for you and say that your job cannot be done by anyone else who is from the EU

nowdays its being treated that you need to be earning 50k+ euro and be fairly high up in the company or you will get turned down.

also be careful rocking up in the UK with a CV and stuff cause i have heard of people being sent home from the airport because they had a CV in there bag

but if your under 30 you can work for 12 months on the exchange program which is basically an agreement between aust and the schengen agreement. The UK has its own work permit agreement with Australia which is the same type of thing as the schengen visa but be careful thinking all of EU is under the same umbrella

the UK is not part of the schengen agreement and it causes all sorts of problems to ppl who think the UK and Ireland are part of it and try to enter under the schengen visa

anyway its alot of fun even if you can do it for 12 months, usually in the 12 months you can find a boss who will make up a reason saying your tops and you have to stay etc and your in

you should always check stuff just before you're about to arrive!

i rocked up to the uruguayan airport just recently and they asked me for a visa and i lol'd at them. apparently starting from THE DAY I ARRIVED all aussies need visas to go there, and i didn't know because i left in feb.

so basically was an illegal there for a few days w00t

superform, thats the biggest urban myth going. i want names of these people!! rock up with a working holiday maker and of course your gonna have a cv!

um, be careful of your vocab! work permit is a specific term for sponsorship, or limited leave to remain.

what's the standard length of time you can get a visa to UK for? is it 1 year or 2 years?

currently 2years, but theres some bs that you can only work 12months. pretty much impossible to police, and no employee cares.
