BOOYAH!!! A much deserved win!

Stay tuned for the 2nd semi final between Japan and Saudi Arabia.

I can just sense an all arab final but the Japs will be hella hardcore to beat.

also I'm a bit pissed off with the koreans, they did so well at the world cup but in the iran game and this iraq game it was just a bit yawn

hey fark you guy!

Iraq didn't play its best game against Korea but they fired on all cylinders in the last 15 minutes. Just couldn't convert those 4 golden chances in extra time.

Honestly though i was expecting Iran to make to the finals with either Uzbakistan or Japan cause they're a quality side, but not to be.

Maybe an Iraqi win in the finals will unite all the iraqies and put a stop to all the sectarian violence

(that and collaboratively defeat the scum that is america lol)

Just heard that a suicide bomber targeted fans and killed 50 in Baghdad with a car bomb:/

On a less important note, what's with people putting spoilers for the Asia Cup in the title of the threads?

So as long as we add a "lol" after any racial comments we make against Iraq we can get away with it being "lighthearted"? fggt!

Do Iraqi's shoot their guns everytime they win?

Last time a few people died and a few dozen were wounded.

The only reason Iraq won was because they wore suicide vests and the opposition were afraid to get close to them. lol

For someone who doesn't care about Football you seem to post in a lot of Football related threads.

Also, I feel sorry for those killed in the bombings. It's sad when some people can become so bitter they they chose to kill their own countrymen for celebrating the success of their own countrymen.

Bullet narrowly misses Aussie leader in Iraq
Saturday - 21 July 2007 - news.com.au

A BULLET fired by Iraqis celebrating their quarter-final victory over Vietnam in the Asian Cup narrowly missed three of Australia's senior soldiers in Baghdad today.

The bullet, one of hundreds fired into the air by jubilant Iraqis across Baghdad, landed in the Green Zone, just where Australian troops had gathered to listen to an address by the Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy.

"It went between me and Brigadier Kelly. It just hit the ground and bounced," said the Regimental Sergeant Major of the Australian Army, Kevin Woods.

Brigadier Justin Kelly is a senior Australian officer attached to the multinational force headquarters in Baghdad.

Brigadier Gerard Fogarty, who commands all Australian troops in Iraq, said the bullet landed just near his boot.

Asked if this was the closest he had ever come to being shot, he replied: "Would it be the closest that I know of? Yes."

Iraq defeated Vietnam 2-0.

About 80 Australian troops had gathered at about 7pm in an area outside the mess hall to hear General Leahy, who is currently touring Australian facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan to meet troops and commanders..

Immediately after he began speaking the gunfire started.

Single shots and bursts of automatic fire sounded across the city as Iraqis expressed their joy by firing into the sky.

The shooting continued sporadically for much of the evening.

The bullet, possibly fired from more than a kilometre away, struck the concrete with a loud smack.

General Leahy immediately adjourned the gathering, which resumed a short time later in the mess hall.

Reuters reported that two people were killed and 15 wounded in Baghdad by the gunfire.

i didnt realise a bullet fired straight up in the air could come down fast enough to really hurt someone

but:

A round travelling 820 meters per second will climb more than three kilometers before beginning its slightly slower descent. The mortality rate among those struck by "space bullets" is about 32%, compared with about 2–6% normally associated with gunshot wounds. This alarmingly high number is indicative of the fact that the vast majority of SBT wounds are head wounds. A study by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 80% of celebratory gunfire-related injuries are to the head, feet, and shoulders. Firearms expert Julian Hatcher studied falling bullets and found that they reach terminal velocities of 60 meters per second or more — enough to pierce a human skull.

Funny paragraph... first sentence says that coming down they travel slightly slower than 820 metres per second, then in the last one they say they travel at 60 metres per second.

Skeptical.

it's probably no more or less deadly than getting thumped on the top of the head with a hammer

I think a bullet penetrating the skull would have a different effect to a hammer cracking it.

However, if struck hard enough it would hold the same result.

They're not celebrating their win by running around smacking people in the head with Hammers though, so it's a moot point.

No, it says that a bullet fired from a gun into the air with an initial speed of 820 m/s can reach an altitude of greater than 3km high before losing momentum and dropping back to earth, reaching a terminal velocity of 60 m/s before potentially hitting a victim.

Mythbusters actually did an episode about a bullet being fired in the air and if it could kill someone on the return...it could.

I'm sure Iraq wants to f*** you too poofway.

Whether you like Iraq or not, it was a well deserved win. We beat 3 world cup teams to get to the finals and win it.

Australia 3-1, South Korea on penalties, and Saudi Arabia 1-0(who beat Uzbakistan and Japan but looked below average against Iraq)

Hey guys don't be so harsh, give the poor little feller something to cling to and be proud of about his families native homeland.

God knows it needs something going for it other than bombed out buildings and sand.
