p.s CHUB check your PM's.
Also, now that I've finished my uni, how do I setup my account on QUT so I can get a student card that's valid for another 10 years so I can keep getting cheap movies? Do I have to re-enroll or just change the expected completion date and go in and get a new ID? |

Do I have to re-enroll or just change the expected completion date and go in and get a new ID? They usually have a cut off date for the student ID expiration... so even if you put like 10 years, the card will have an expiration date of like 3-5 years I'm fairly sure. |

If you are going to change your date to 2015, Get your new ID, then change it back.
A Mate forgot to change his back and he had to wait till the next graduation date because his completion date was wrong. I graduated last year and have up to 2010 for Cheapie tic's |

Toll do I need the Genetics book for Cell and Molecular Biology 1? Says it's not mandatory, but dad shouts my texts... so if it's useful may as well grab it.
How difficult did you find Chemistry 2? I did Introductory Chemistry (PCB140) instead of Chemistry 1 (PCB142), but the co-ordinator said they're essentially the same. |

Hiya Chub
I also did Intro to Chem, only chumps do Chem 1 over intro.. I didn't like the first bit of chemistry, too many exceptions to the rules twas realy anoying. Chem 2 is sooo much more organised and better. Lots of info is covered, the text book is a must for that subject. For Cell and Molec 1's text book is good. The lectures give overviews of the text's chapters with the occasional detailed bit thrown in. You could easily pass the subject without it, however if you want 6's or 7's the text book gives the extra detail you will need. |

f***ing hell chub, I did PCB140 this semester as well. f*** Brisbane is a small world.
I want to know how much molecular geometry comes into play because I had no f***ing idea about it because it was explained for s***, I thought. I found it the hardest of all the topics covered. :/ I have a good enough understanding for a seven but I still feel totally illequiped, its still probably taught like a first year subject though (I hope) going back over all the basics real quick in case you dont know s***. last edited by qmass at 21:55:36 08/Jul/07 |

AYB320 ADVANCED TAXATION LAW 5 72%
ITB223 SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT WITH ORACLE 6 80% Bit cut about the Advanced Tax Law, I am going to have to check out my exam I think. Kinda stoked with the Software Dev, I did my work every week, but didn't really understand much of it....doesn't seem to have mattered though! |

It means you FAIL! hahaha
An understanding of molecular geometry helps alot with visualising the interactions of molecules. Biochemistty, enzymology, drug design, DNA and RNA interactions with other molecules. Basically you can not know much about the geometry and memorize any interactions and pathways you need to learn, or you could gain an understanding of the geometry and work with that to figure out interactions, so you know why this dosnt react with that unless thingy is in place to move that so this can fit. That sorta stuff :P If the uni required that you fully understand it for the passing of your course they would spend more time teaching it. |

LOL Qmass, it was a really small class and I still have a good idea of what everybody looks like :) Who were you, motorbike dude with the big jacket that always arrived late and sat down the front? (random guess I know, but nicer then assuming you're that weirdo with dreds that wore pajamas pants). What lab were you in BTW?

qmass rides motorbikes though doesn't he? I think I might be onto something here, considering motorbike guy was the one of the few students that didn't look 17/straight out of year 12.
Unless he is older shaved head with mutton chops guy, that could be a possibility. PJ guy would have failed. I don't know whether he was just lazy or too drug f***ed, but he seemed a bit out of it. |

hahahaha, that f***ing hippie wannabe - I laughed every time I saw that dude. and Im not motorbike guy, I have smallish sideburns and I think I had like a number3 shave at one stage of the semester... I doubt you would have seen me, im pretty stealthy in my dealings with university lectures. I get in and out because so far everything ive done has been a total let down and im usually there to just make sure I dont miss any important events. I dont think I was in anything but dickies shorts and a t-shirt the whole semester and I always sat in the far back left corner of the big lecture theater (not the Z one)
That pony tailed f***er of a lecturer was when I stopped even bothering to make it in, what a sack of s***. Im really really frustrated that they use such s***ty lecturers for first year subjects. I mean, I understand that you dont need a good teacher given how basic the work is but in order to get people interested and motivated, which is half the battle with first years, they should use interesting skilled lecturers. I guess thats just the reality of teaching staff. The wacklawic guy was ok for most things though. I have a pretty good understanding (as far as what was taught, im sure in the grand scheme its poor) of atomic structure and the small amount of quantum mechanics that was taught. Just for some reason orbital hybridisation went over my head and I ran out of time to learn it better. I know the text book definition of everything, but that breaks down pretty badly, quite fast. I think there were 2 geometry questions in the exam, one about if a sigma bond was end to end or sideways and the shape of a molecule when a triagonal planar has a lone pair on the central atom with 3 hydrogens around it. Since I had a decent text book understanding that was all easy but its the stuff that requires visualisation that I find harder. I dunno, I got a 7 so I guess my understanding is sufficient but I always still feel lacking in understanding. last edited by qmass at 19:23:37 09/Jul/07 |

Yeah the overlapping of p-orbitals was a joke of a question. I spent so much time learning organic chemistry nomenclature, hybridization, molecular orbital theory and other stuff... then the exam skipped over it and had 10 questions on bloody solubility (which were the lectures I missed).
I put the geometry of the other question as pyramidal instead of trigonal planar, I thought that's what happens when you have 3 bonds and a lone pair :( maybe that's why you got a 7 and I got a 6 :D Are you taking Chemistry 2 this semester? |

Well it actually becomes triagonal pyramidal I think its called. The lone pair acts like a bond and pushes the other atoms away, so following that vespr theory or whatever it was called, it goes from being triagonal planar, to being pushed out by the lone pair. When the same kind of compound (A3B1) has no lone pairs, its triagonal planar but when it has a lone pair on the main element in it (I dunno what the right name for it is, I think its the most electronegitive that is in the middle) it does the pushy away thing.
I did no study on organic chem for the exam becuase I assumed that it was going to be a totally overlooked topic in the exam. I did read the whole chapter on it but I wasnt going to learn all of that s***, going off previous exams the possible damage wouldnt of been very big even if they had put much into the exam for it. Its a whole body of chem and it was covered so fast, I just assumed the depth wasnt going to be needed. s***, yeah... I forget how much there was on that in the exam already. I learnt all of the solubility topic along with all of the electrochem in the couple days before the exam, because I had to study for my other subject and I hadnt gone to the lectures on it. Yeah im doing chem2 this coming semester, I already f***ING HATE that stve bottle c***. Who makes every lecture for the course 8AM... GOD DAMNIT :( If you want, PM me your MSN or ICQ - I always like being able to make sure I havnt f***ed up a prac before I hand it in. last edited by qmass at 20:14:30 09/Jul/07 |

Hay guys, if you want some help with your chem lemmi know. I got high 6's for both chems. Nailed the organic chemistry part of mid sem with 100%, missed 4 questions of the physical chem part (such a boring lecturer).
Chemistry 2 is almost all Organic chemistry. If you liked the organic chem stuff and the reactions its good. And the nomenclature stuff is soo much better. :D |

What are the labs like for Chemistry 2 Toll? I loved all the titrations, I felt very comfortable and got 10/10 on the first 4 (9/10 on lab 5).
I have a feeling it's going to be significantly harder. Do you get to do any sort of organic synth at all? |

Hey qmass I dare you to wear your pyjamas and one of those Reggae hats with the fake dreads to the first lecture next semester.
Better still organise the whole class to do it. But don't tell Chub. Hilarity will ensue, trust me. |

I wonder if the people who dont instantly understand what we are talking about have ever been to uni? In every single class ive ever been in, there is always a guy or two that just stands out because they look like morons. There was this guy who always wore these dirtydog ski goggle/sunglasses things on his head, so he was called dirtydog and if you ever mentioned the word, everyone in the class would know. Its the same with hippie fag, everyone knows the guy, he wore the same s*** EVERY single class.
It would be funny as hell for chub, just like it would be funny as hell for everyone EXCEPT pajama guy. |
