its a xml/whatever list of new articles on a website...
I was using an RSS feed gadget thingy in vista on the sidebar, it downloaded a little sample of an article on a couple of websites and I could click it to go to the full article... |

so you can subscribe to a thread?
devious. but with so many threads and each generally having a lifetime of only a couple of days you'd wanna use it sparingly |

RSS Feeds are good for mobiles devices that can use the net.
You download the small xml file or whatever format it is and then browse new threads. Click and choose... You can set certain time intervals etc for when it should update the list. |

You should click through to read the thread in PDA view... or at least let m.google.com work properly against this forum.

...but wtf is an RSS feed?Check out this image. Click that little dealie. In the dropdown, select "Add to Google Reader". You'll get a google page asking if you want to add to your Google home page or google reader. I prefer the reader. You'll need a gmail account. |

Cool, works just fine thanks.
A suggestion - Is it possible to get the list sorted based on last post within the thread or something? That way I know if it's been updated and stuff. Also I found this really cool RSS Read plugin for Outlook 2003 (so you can read RSS feeds directly in Outhouse 2003) http://rssfeederdotnet.sourceforge.net/ Seems to work good enough for most things - doesn't seem to support Digg RSS feeds for some reason but there's a source if you really want to hax it apart. Pretty neat little toy. |

yeh, when i add this one as a live bookmark in FF: http://qgl.ausforums.com/rss.php?forumid=439207
I get a blank list, the drop down just says empty. If I add this one http://www.gamearena.com.au/rss/news.rss It functions as expected with a dropdown list of the latest GA news topics. if i open both urls directly they seem to have similar XML with no parsing errors but looking at the code and not really knowing how any of it works, they seem to have a key differnce. QGL one has <items> <rdf:Seq> </rdf:Seq> </items> in the first section, while GA has <rdf:Seq> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4226667"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4226038"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4225893"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4225781"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4223873"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4223864"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4223831"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4223805"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4222116"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4222101"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4221794"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4220278"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4215913"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4215737"/> <rdf:li rdf:resource="http://www.gamearena.com.au/news/read.php/4215697"/> </rdf:Seq> last edited by Dan at 11:03:13 16/Jun/07 |

OK I gave up on using the dodgy ripped off RSS template I was using and rewrote it from scratch. It seems to work fine now in everything I've tested.
