A common preservative found in many soft drinks can cause serious cell damage and fatal illness, according to a UK study revealed last night.

Research indicates that sodium benzoate, an ingredient in many soft drinks and sauces, has the ability to deactivate parts of DNA and eventually cause diseases such as Parkinson's and cirrhosis of the liver.

This is scary. And makes you wonder about all the other chemicals we consume daily that wouldnt pass todays testing standards.

Theres a history of Parkinsons in my family, seems worthwhile to steer clear of these things. Got enough problems without worrying about degenerative diseases and early aging because of what Im drinking.

That's why you stick to the good old H2O :)

Seriously, besides fresh juices and the exception of alcoholic drinks, why would anyone drink anything besides water? Be kind to your body.

I took a Survey of 50 people all living in Australia. Study lasted 50 years. Out of 50 people 49 had died.
Living in Australia CAUSES DEATH!.

The findings came from laboratory tests conducted with sodium benzoate on living yeast cells.

Yeast? My Beer have to stay off the Sauce?

Hello, caffiene is a mutagen. Yet nobody has ever died from drinking coffee. I wouldn't over-react just yet.

Didn't like a bunch of Kids OD on Caffiene in some Energy drink?
They drank ass-loads and died.

Might of been an allergic reaction to caffiene in there though.

Meh, not going to stop me drinking my V.

Yes, because we all know that cultured Yeast cells in a dish have the exact same influences as a living human body.

Oh and scooter, its related to mitochondrial dna which is relatively preserved throughout most organisms with them.

Scooter, a large amount of our current understanding of human cellular biology comes from these micro-organisms.

So do we have on QGL ANYONE who doesn't drink alcohol, softdrinks, smoke, take drugs and eat fast foods? Everyone has some kind of bad habit, besides, who wants to live forever?

I just tell myself by the time i'm old they'll have a cure for whatever i'm going to have by then.

How many oolld people are there alive today? Lots right?

How many snazzy tests did they have back when they were young? none right?

My logic might really be bad, but it lets me sleep at night.

Yes I drink lots and lots of coke :( (I just finished a 1L bottle :S)

Although whilst at uni I had to do a fairly long research assignment on the effects of caffeine etcetc, and from what I saw, it hasn't stopped me.

Would soda water be classed as harmful because that's pretty much all I drink. That and iced coffee breakas. I don't drink tap water because it tastes like ass.

I'm betting alot of people drink coke because they want the caffine from it. I wonder how many people would drink water with added caffine, weeee.

I'm also sure that most people who drink coke and the like are very much aware it isnt healthy for them, so telling them it isn't healthy.. agian.. inst going to do much.

Well thats their own stupid fault, cos most (all?) of those energy drinks have warnings on the label telling you not to drink more than 1 or 2 a day. Having said that, I've downed 3 or 4 occasionally when I'm pulling all night coding sessions and haven't died, yet.

Aren't some labeled with something vague like recommended daily intake or the like.... suggesting any less than 2 cans is also unhealthy?

Fark living past 70. The moment im physically unable to ride a motorcycle, i want to die.
And if i get disabled young, maybe i can just survive playing WoW for the rest of my life.

Give up all those great things in life just to give yourself another 10 years closer to 100, the s***tiest days of your life anyway.
