I have just started using these Night and Day 30 day wear contacts, which you can sleep in. Has anyone else tried these? They are very convenient and comfortable in the daytime but I find sometimes at night they either fall out out in my sleep or are really hazy in the mornings.

Any observations or tips for better wear?

I use to wear them, but sleeping in them sucked for me. When I'd wake up my eyes would be blurry. Plus all it takes is to rub your eyes once and you could knock them out. I prefer the regular ones. According to my optometrist though peoples eyes react differantly to these things.

after 4 days they are basically invisible now. the only problem is they get dry in the aircon and have to use drops 3-4 times a day. out of air con they are fine.

How do you stop your eyes drying out while you sleep? I reckon I must sleep with my eyes open or something because every time I wake up my eyes are dry and sore. I don't wear contacts.

I slept in my contacts once and woke up the next morning with one missing. Thought it must have popped out while I was sleeping, til about 2 weeks later I had a sore eye and went to see if something was in it, and my crumpled old contact popped out the side. Had been rolling around inside my head for the whole time. Since then, I only sleep in contacts when I am too drunk to take them out without doing more damage than good.

Stuff sleeping in them. If you're wearing them less it's going to be more hygenic. Besides, you even slightly rub them and they get lodged into the corner(s) of your eyes.

I used to get 30 day ones, but since I was only wearing them once or twice a week I've recently switched to daily disposables.

i had someone tell me not to use eyedrops because you´re eyes will stop bothering to self lubricate because they´re always expecting the drops but i think that is bs.

i tried them for like a week or something, but my eyes got super super red and uncomfortable - shame because it´d be pretty awesome not having to put them in every morning (but that still pwns nerd goggles)

if you´re not already, you should be putting eye drop in before you go to bed but otherwise go call your optometrist?

I have been using these for many years now.

I think in the last 3-4 years I have had maybe 2 come out while asleep, and both times that was cause i was stuffed up with a cold.

I often forget that I am wearing them and have to have a reminder in my PDA to tell me I have to change them.

Only big problem I have ever had was last ski trip when one contact got pushed into corner of eye while sleeping. It fell out too but took 1/2 the day for my eye to go back to it's normal shape. No perm damage, just iritated for that day.

I love these things. Costs me $125 every 3 months (and if i really wanted, i could change them every 1.5-2 months and they would last longer). And it means I can wear any sunnies I want and not have to carry around glasses. Also great swimming in them and being able to see when i come up or wear goggles.

Is the blurryness after not using drops and waking up with contact lenses bacteria growing in between the lense and the eye?

I find I have never used eye drops once.

Your eyes do tend to dry out a little bit faster in aircon but after a month or 2 I got used to it and have never found any dryness problems.

OK I have had this pair in since Thursday after having sworn off them from my last bad experience, and believe me when I say they get easier to use as your eyes adjust and f***n rock hard (to use Rev's fav saying). Awesome playing sports in them too. I do use drops just for comfort in the aircon, and put drops in first thing in the morning (blurriness I read is caused by accretions under the lens and the solution called Blink and Clean, gets rid of the harmless gunk).

In summary, bye bye glasses.

If I wanted to get contacts that change my eye color, do you have to get them fitted professionally or can you just walk in and buy them off the shelf?

Ive been thinking about getting contacts for a little while, just havent bit the bullet and gone to the optometrist to get tested.

Good to get some different feedback though, I still think contacts would be secondary to wearing my glasses.

I'd be careful about that if I was u - there have been some pretty nasty stories about where people have gotten really bad eye infections and even sometimes lost there sight because they haven't bought decent quality contacts.
Of course, hygiene (or lack there of) has probably also played some part in these cases, but I would be wary either way. You only get one set of eyes; I think it would be worthwhile at least talking to an optometrist. Just pop into an OPSM store and ask someone which brands they recommend, etc.

yeah my gf got them at the last sexpo and had a ball with em with her crazy friends. they are in sealed units and u just treat them from a hygiene POV like normal contacts.

yeah but getting conjunctivitis sucks big time.

on a related note.... my sister buys all her contact lenses over the net (from the USA) and saves a motza!

I'm quoting my optometrist here...

It's good to go camping for a few days or crash at somebody's place after a big night out with these lenses once in a while, but I don't think wearing them for prolonged periods is a good idea as the risk of infection is quite high. The cornea cannot recover completely from this and scarring can result in partial or full blindness.

But regardless of whether you sleep with the contacts in, it's best to use this type anyway. They're made of silicon hydrogel, a material highly permeable by oxygen. It's far more healthy for your eyes. Regular hydrogel material, which older contact lenses are made of, forces your eyes to adjust to reduced levels. The long-term effects are questionable, particularly if you wear your lenses over ten hours a day.

I'd only recommend getting custom lenses from an optometrist. About a year ago I got straight white contacts but I could only stand them for short periods of time, they do affect your vision some what. They sure freaked people out when they saw them.

Yeah I got them. They're quite comfortable to wear however as you already said in air-cond / dry air environ they still sucked. I've slept with em on before and they _just_ ok I wouldn't be recommending with sleeping with them on all the time though, only if you really couldn't help it. I tend to do this when i'm drunked and forgot LOL which is probably the worst thing you could do seeing that you'd be dehydrated and made it very uncomfortable.

Having said that I still wear glassed at work (air-cond) and when I'm home.

I wore these for 30 days straight when i went on holiday in Tasmania. Involved lots of offroad motorcycling everywhere, windblast at 130kmh and sleeping through the night.

Not one problem. I'm going to be using them again for 30 days straight next month when im up at the cape.
