There's an awesome free program called SUPER:
http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html Site might not look the best but it has insane file-format support. Video format: Here I've pre-selected divx to .mov as an example: http://homepage.powerup.com.au/~boldajis/images/super.jpg last edited by parabol at 02:29:01 18/May/07 |

SUPER I've heard is pretty good but I don't think it's open source so mediacoder ftw!
edit: I just tested encoding with mencode (from the mplayer package) with the Transformers trailer to xvid. I used the following command line: mencoder.exe transformers.mov -ovc xvid -xvidencopts pass=2:bitrate=800 -oac mp3lame -o transformers-xvid.avi Took like 10 mins (core 2 dual 6600) and spat out a great xvid. You can download mplayer here torrent last edited by trog at 17:12:29 19/May/07 |

I cant find any link to download Super ont hat site Like I said, crap site. It does some referrer dodginess that often dumps you back to the main page. 1. Visit: http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html 2. Scroll to bottom and click "Start Downloading SUPER © right now" 3. On next page click "download and use" 4. On next page Scroll to bottom and click on one of the mirrors. Ok f*** that's a lot of steps. Pays off though as the program is relatively powerful. last edited by parabol at 21:21:51 20/May/07 |

edit: ^^^^ you also need to have scripts enabled I think.
SUPER I've heard is pretty good but I don't think it's open source so mediacoder ftw! Does it really matter if it isn't open source? It's still free. Or are you worried about non-free bits being included in it and distributed illegally? last edited by whoop at 23:31:52 20/May/07 |

Or are you worried about non-free bits being included in it and distributed illegally?I'd be massively surprised if SUPER wasn't comprised of open source bits. Has anyone got any experience with mencoder? I can't figure out how to use the xvid profile stuff. |

I'd be massively surprised if SUPER wasn't comprised of open source bits That's actually a really good point. I doubt they wrote so many codecs from scratch. I also doubt they would have bought licenses for proprietary codecs only to release the program for free. Their website gives credit to some OSS projects but not much more than that. Hmmm, bastards. last edited by parabol at 15:44:20 21/May/07 |
