Just had a security scare (although I think it was a false alarm).
What antivirus software can people recommend? I used to use Norton but found it got in the way of stuff, constantly asking for permissions etc. In some ways just as annoying as having a virus in the first place in that it renders your machine less useful. I am not currently running antivirus and have not done so for quite some time. Computer seems fine and I've never noticed a need for it. Until now. Any recommendations? |

AVG Free Edition (my favourite): http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free
If you have some money to spare, many people swear by NOD32: http://www.nod32.com.au/ By the way, great choice for ditching Norton. It's sometimes degrades your system more than viruses. |

Just got PC-cillin here, not a bad program, all round protection including email, spyware, firewall. Plus the licence covers up to 3 pc's.

SAV corporate. We get it free from work. I was using BitDefender before that, I thought that it was quite good. |

Yeah Norton home product sure do suck but the SAV Corp is ok.
For home, I just read in the APC magazine that Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 is apparently very good - this is thier complete package BTW i.e. include spam scanner, virus/worm scranner etc etc. 3 x users license for $99.95 AUD for 1 year isn't a bad deal at all. I personally use AVG Profressional at home. last edited by Opec at 08:03:47 18/May/07 |

NOD32 seems to work alright and is not bloated like Norton.
