sorry caps, should be one with a little yellow exclamation mark next to it if not then look in IDE controllers? if its not in there then you probably haven't physically installed it correctly.

do you not get a box asking you to install new hardware when you log into windows?

I hate to hijack but...

3d: have you considered that people with a good LCD or two don't NEED sub pixel rendered fonts and all that hacky stuff?

Can you plug it into another pci slot? I used to have issues when I used one of those things ages ago and that fixed the problem.

there isnt enough room to plug it into another pci slot, i tried switching the things i have in my pci slots and it doesnt fit anywhere else.

this is what is in the scsi/raid controllers

i have updated the drivers with the ones i got with the controller and it doesnt pick up any new hdd's :(

I BLOODY HATE clear type/font smoothing. To me it makes the fonts look all bloated & fuzzy, bloated fuzzy graphics are fine in games but for text I want clear, sharp lines.

edit: If you installed your onboard controller as a RAID controller you'll probably need to set it up using the RAID config program. You more than likely want it in IDE mode though for just normal hard drive usage yes? In the BIOS there's an option to turn your RAID controller into either a RAID controller or an IDE device.

Tried removing another card and putting it in that device slot, just for testing purposes? Just seems like the card isn't being properly detected. Does the card have it's own bios?

I go with iceworm on this one rip everything out that isn't essential and make sure it is detected by bios in the bootup screen.

you will know if it is in the list if you note what comes up without the controller in then with the controller in

Wait, so you have the onboard IDE + an IDE controller card? I thought I was seeing things, how many hard drives do you have?

There's a partition on the other 2 hard drives I assume? They're not brand new, empty, unpartitioned/unformatted drives are they? If so I'm going to rofl.

Are the hard drives set to cable select? If they are maybe try setting them to slave/master by using a jumper. Were your hard drives working on this controller before?

RTFM its a easy one to read

Insert the board into a PCI slot that supports bus master DMA. Refer to Figure 1.
(Your computer's manual should identify the bus-master slots.)

also while booting up press F3 to get into the card's bios and setup your hdds

before my computer broke i had

pci ide controller -> 2 ide hdd's -> worked fine

something f***ed up so i got a new sata hdd. Plugged in and that workes fine.

new setup

Sata hdd -> running windows - works fine etc

pci controller -> 2 ide hdds - dont read at all

the ide controller shows up in the device manager and in bios so i cant see why that would be f***ing it up.

Both of the ide hdd's are set to slave via jumper

Take a screenshot of your device manager with the disk drive subsection expanded will ya? :p Oh, and by slave on both disks (assuming they are on one cable) you meant cable select, right? Or assuming you have them on 1 cable per channel, they are set to cable select or master, right? Not slave?

Also, if the sata hdd is in addition to your existing components, what wattage power supply do you have?

Finally, are your motherboard drivers properly installed? On a couple of rare occasions where I've seen the Smbus controller sitting in device manager as an unknown device it has also coincided with some other weird hardware problems on the machine.

yes i have one ide cable goin from mb -> dvd/ burner, i have a controller on pci with 1 cable coming from that connecting to 2 ide hdd's.

-> the first hdd is maxtor, it has 5 prongs on the back (where u set master slave etc) i have blue connector in 4th prong making it slave

-> the second is a seagate, it has 4 prongs on the back (where u set master slave etc) i have blue connecteor in the 2nd prong.

i have no idea what u mean by what channel there on :(

So, you've got 1 sata hdd, 1 cdrom drive on it's own channel from your motherboard, and 2 peta hdds connected to a single channel on your pci card (a channel basically refers to the port on the pcb, 1 port is 1 channel).

On maxtors, J50(pin adjacent to eide cable) is DS(Master) J48 is Cable Select and no jumper is DS(Slave).
On seagates, the pin adjacent to the eide cable is master or single, the pin one to the right of that is cable select, and no jumper is slave.

By that device manager screenshot, the 60 gig seagate is one of the peta drives on your ide controller and the 400 gig drive is your sata boot drive, which means only your maxtor is missing. Anyways, I'd try setting the jumper on your seagate to the pin next to the ide cable, and removing the jumper from the maxtor entirely so it's set to slave. Try a spare ide cable too, if you've got one handy.

even though it says that the 60gb is there, it doesn't show up in my computer etc.

motherboard -> 1 ide cable connecting 2 cdrom drives

-> 1 pci connector with 1 IDE cable coming off it connecting 2 ide hdd's (160g seagate & 60g maxtor)

-> 1 sata drive (400gb) boot

i think i must have a jumper in the wrong spot :( ill fiddle around later after i get some sleep :)

thanks for the help guys, hopefully this fixes it

If you have 2 hdds on the same IDE cable, one must be set to master, the other set to slave..
