How busy does gamedude usually get? ie. How long do u have to spend standing around before you can buy your item?

It's a bit of a trek out there for my and I just wanna know if it's going to turn into a massive pain in the ass and if i should just pay the extra and go somewhere else.

Two hours travel to save $5 is totally worth it.

Ok well I really couldn't be f***ed going to gamedude but umart are out of stock so I don't have a choice.

Further problems - i had a knee reconstruction a week ago so I don't want to go myself. However, my mum is going to Ikea which is nearby so I thought I might ask her to pickup the item (laser printer) while she was in the area. However I don't wanna ask her to do it if she has to spend half her day waiting there.

I'd get it shipped but the tightarses at gamedude don't even have online credit card processing, only direct deposit, so I'd have to wait for the money to clear with them, then wait for the shipping, and I fear all up I'd be waiting like 9days or something. I really need the printer pronto for some urgent...printing.

So there is my predicament.

Recently I went at about 2 in the afternoon and it was pretty packed but not nearly as packed as it used to get (sometimes having to wait 40mins for service). I still had to wait a while - 20mins or so. I noticed though if you got at about 9am to 10am the geeks are still asleep so there are about 2 or 3 customers at that time and you won't have to wait for service at all.

you know there are companies out there that can do this for you.

not all computer stores/techs/etc just fix computers and setup networks. some do the whole sha-biz. try out www.triera.com.au dude. they're one of the better ones out there, and do all the running around for you. you might have seen their ads in hospitals - these guys really go the full mile for customers who need the legwork done

gamedude is the worst computer store i have ever been to, worst service ever. Dont even bother trying to get something replaced if it breaks.

I've been there maybe half a dozen times and everytime it was the same. Long and smelly lines, rude staff. I don't go there anymore unless a product I desperately want is absolutely out of stock everywhere else.
Dont even bother trying to get something replaced if it breaks.

I once called them up to ask about LCD warranty before buying, and they replied "we don't do LCD warranties, talk to the manufacturer". So I went and bought from Umart instead, who have no problems swapping your dead-pixeled LCD on the spot if the manufacturer offers such a warranty.

i bought a spindel of 100 dvd's from gamedude, got home and tried to burn on them, used about 20/100 cd's and none of them worked (yes i did have +R DVD's and +R dvd burner)

I took them back and told the guy this, he refused to replace them even though i had a reciept and bought them the day beforehand because "
thats the risk you run when you buy DVD's
"

Man did u want to jump over the counter and smash his pimply neardy face into the ground.

After about 2hrs of him "testing" the DVD's on their computers there and coming to the conclusion that it must have been my hardware because they all work completly fine on their computers.. which is a total heap of s*** because when he brought the DVD's out i checked the back and there wasn't even anything burnt onto them.

Didn't end up getting the DVD's replaced even after complaining to the manager (which i waiting for 3hrs to talk to because "
the manager is too busy to be bothered with warranty matters concerning DVD's
"

I'm going to gamedude to get a 3800+ at $109 where most other places are selling them for $139, if it was anyless then $20 savings I wouldn't go.

It really depends on a bunch of stuff. Sometimes I've gone to gamedude in the past and been waiting 2 minutes, other times I've been waiting an hour. You can't just say yep you'll always wait 2 hours because it doesn't always happen. If there's 50 noobs there buying an entire PC then you're going to wait ages, if there's a couple of people there going for a specific item and know what they're doing then you won't wait long. Best bet is to give them a ring & ask what the queue size is like.

Also, if you "don't have a choice" tried computer alliance? they're open 7 days.

from what I can gather from msy's godawful price list, they're also selling them for $109
here just up from gamedude, head up moss street (comming from the highway end) turn left at the traffic lights and at the end of that road is randall street.

I don't, based purely on their website alone. If they made it more professional I might think about it.

I haven't heard any complaints from my numerous friends who have purchased stuff from MSY. And their prices are outstanding. The range of stock is a bit limited in some areas though.

Whoop cheers, thats $109 for a Duel core 3800+ too.. the $109 from gamedude was single core.

I see there RAM is very cheap too.
SOLD! I'll at least be getting my CPU and RAM from there, maybe mobo too.

What's with all the out-of-place Triera spam lately?

Seems odd that such a company is so widely known with a good reputation all of a sudden out of nowhere.

I bought an expensive video card from gdude, 7800gtx not to long ago, anyway, wanted to buy a shuttle sn27p itx box, but wasn't sure if my card would fit, so i brought my card in and asked if i could check to see if the card could actually fit (not slot it, just check dimensions clearence etc) I'd checked the compatability list and a 7800gtx was on there but not for my brand. anyway, the guy took it out of the box for me but said i couldn't open it up to see if the card could fit.... ffs

But he did have a solution for me, oh yes, it would seem the most logical way out of this situation was for me to buy another video card (7600gt) that he knows will fit... I then asked if I buy this and it doesn't fit, can I return it? no that didn't work either... I walked out, havent been back since.

Thats so stupid, when i worked at Harvey's pretty much any customer request was dealt with, with a smile on your face, i was asked stupid s*** all the time. Asked to get s*** out so people could look at it. Its all about customer service, if your buying s*** from somewhere and you need to look at it or something like that then the shop should do whatever the f*** you say as long as its within reason.

Oh i also bought my motherboard from gamedude cos no where else had it. I had to wait about 20 mins in the line at like 12:30 or something. I was entertained by watching someone trying to return something, hoping to hell my mobo didnt die.

heh.. I thought the same thing. usually, the only recommedation that comes along here from you guys is born from someone needing to defend their purchase descision.

Qld computer group! I remember buying a pc there back in the 90's. The owner was murdered in the store.

I've decided to go with Surpass at taringa. Decent price and local.

the story made the new page of OCAU back on the 17th of July, 2001.. but all the news links are long dead now. Basically, John Chan, the co-owner of the store was killed by two of his employees while working late one night.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/news.php?id=30216

that's about the only link I could find.. not much use though

No, Concorde is owned by one of the guys who used to own sunlit... as far as i know.

Also, the thing about QCGO is completely true and was a big thing a couple of years back... I believe he was murdered by one of the other staff.

Mr Hardware knows the score.

edit: its ownership prior to a year ago or so is beyond me, I think Kat might be partly right about someone related to CA having owned it. But I know Mr Woo owns it or most of it now.

Concorde Computers has changed hands at least 3 times in last 5 years.

To be exact, the 'original guy who ran Concorde' sponsored Qgl Lan not just through CC themselves but also thru Computer Alliance. In total about half a decade or more.

no one actually knows who he is though ;)

Well i drove past Surpass today, and Sunlit is directly across the road from it. Didn't have time to stop and get my printer though.

I remember sunlit as being massive s***kickers in the late 90's...so I definitely won't be going anywhere near them. It's just a printer though, what could go wrong? ;)
