Actually after doing a psych subject it's pretty damn good. Most people still have a "tell me about your mother" perspective on it. When I did it, there was a lot of neuroscience and cognative aspects to it.

The question is not whether it's a legit certificate, question is whether it'll help you get a job at all

My fiancee is a psych and after doing it for 7 years (all the way to master's) she's quite employable. I'm not sure what the situation is like for people with only the psych degree.

You also have to ask yourself, if you are young (under 25). Will someone with issues needing psychological assistance be able to view the psychologist (you) as an authority on the subject and hence will take what they say on board, or will they see some young person who is younger then they trying to give advise on something they couldnt possibibly understand? (if you understand it or not is another question)

Did she do it online though? No she probably did it at a university. I don't know if many degree level courses are available completely online, though I know you can pretty much do university courses online. Like the Doctor who wrote Men are From Mars Women are From Venus - the online university where he got his degree doesn't exist anymore because they were fraudulent or something, but that doesn't mean the doc has to give his degree back.

Anyway even if the government recognises the people running the online course as being legitimate Registered Training Organisations that can give you qualifications, depending on the industry, often it won't really count for that much.

Apparently businesses running legit courses are listed on this site: http://www.ntis.gov.au/

I've just done an Arts Psych degree at UQ. I would strongly recommend being prepared to do post grad if you want to go somewhere with it. Me, I got half way through and thought stuff this, but finished it anyway, now I doubt I'll do anything at all with it.
I've already started a totally unrelated degree at another university, my girlfriend on the otherhand is doing her Psych honours this year and is looking at taking a year off or two before doing her masters, cool thing is she can get a related job in the meantime starting off at $55+ k.

That being said I have no idea what "online" universities have to offer, I don't know what kind of post-grad stuff they'd have if any.

So how do feel about that?
