22.2 Smith to Hayden, SIX, Down the track and wallops it way over the bowler for a six. Hundred in 66 deliveries. The fastest World Cup hundred. Beating John Davison's record. Brings is up in brutal style

Looking good so far, 1/166 after 23.... but after that incredible game in South Africa I'm not making any assumptions this time.

Everyone has made a run a ball, or better.

That said, I expect SA to dish it out just as much..

Sweet, we take the points from this game through to the super 8s right?

Correct, we do.

The schedule looks like this for Australia, assuming Bangladesh beat Bermuda (otherwise, swap them for India).

Tue 27 Mar Ireland vs Australia
Sat 31 Mar Australia vs Bangladesh
Sun 08 Apr Australia vs England
Fri 13 Apr Australia vs West Indies
Mon 16 Apr Australia vs Sri Lanka
Fri 20 Apr Australia vs New Zealand

Top four teams from the Super 8 section go into the semis: 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 - winners into the Final. This is where your current NRR and points come in handy, cos you will take them into the Super 8s.

The current super8 standings:

1 - Sri Lanka(B1) 3.49(NRR) 6pts
2 - Australia(A1) 3.43(NRR) 6pts
3 - New Zealand(C1) 2.14(NRR) 6pts
4 - West Indies(D1) 0.76(NRR) 6pts
5 - South Africa(A2) 2.40(NRR) 4pts
6 - England(C2) 0.42(NRR) 4pts
7 - Bangladesh(B2) -2.00(NRR) 4pts*
8 - Ireland(D2) -0.09(NRR) 3pts

*Assuming Bermuda don't cause an upset and beat Bangladesh.

Actually, it will be this:

27th Mar West Indies
31st Mar Bangladesh/India
8th Apr England
13th Apr Ireland
16th Apr Sri Lanka
20th Apr New Zealand

Taken from Wikipedia:

The fixtures for the Super 8 league relate to A1 being the first seed in group A, A2 the second, B1 the first in group B etc, as the expected qualifiers from each group. It does not refer to the actual league placings from round one.

If these two teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 or 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group. For example, had West Indies won Group D and Pakistan come second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, West Indies would still have been D2 and Pakistan D1.

If these two teams do not qualify from their group they will be replaced in their indicative position by the team that qualifies instead of them. For example, since Ireland qualified instead of Pakistan from Group D, Ireland assumed the position of D1, despite finishing behind West Indies in the group.

So it's pretty s***ty that even though we finished above SA we still become A2. I guess it doesn't really matter as you still have to play the same teams anyway, but seems like a being of a wank.

This is how it looks on cricinfo and how I thought it would (i.e. you only take the points you got against other Super 8 teams (the one in your pool) through, and that's why you don't play them again in this stage - Aus vs SA was essentially our first Super 8 game because both teams were already through and the winning team got their first 'real' points).

Super Eights Mat Won Lost Tied N/R Pts Net RR For Against
Sri Lanka 1 1 0 0 0 2 +4.304 310/46.0 112/46.0
Australia 1 1 0 0 0 2 +1.660 377/50.0 294/50.0
West Indies 1 1 0 0 0 2 +1.041 190/38.1 189/48.0
New Zealand 1 1 0 0 0 2 +0.942 210/41.0 209/50.0
England 1 0 1 0 0 0 -0.942 209/50.0 210/41.0
Ireland 1 0 1 0 0 0 -1.041 189/48.0 190/38.1
South Africa 1 0 1 0 0 0 -1.660 294/50.0 377/50.0
Bangladesh 1 0 1 0 0 0 -4.304 112/46.0 310/46.0

Edit: formatting f***ed up - all teams are either on 2 or 0 points if you look at the 6th number.

Ok I officially hate whomever drafted up this tournament - look at that NRR for Sri Lanka - there is NO f***ING WAY anyone will match that now, considering the head start S.L. has. (yes, everyone else has a chance to spank Bangladesh and Ireland, but S.L. got first dibs)

Why on earth they didn't take the system employed by the Fifa World cup last year (just on a smaller scale) is beyond me.

Sri lanka have already played Bangladesh and don't get to do that again while all the other teams do. It should even out quite a bit as Sri Lanka play more hard games in this stage than we do.

it also wont matter if a team get more points than SL either would it?

Correct, but if it were to determine 4th and 5th place, with equal points...

yes but the West Indies and Sri Lankans are at a disadvantage in a way, because they have both already played Ireland/Bangas so their Super 8 series involves only one 'minnow' game while the others all get two.

But due to them carrying points forward, it all evens out.
