Topic: Brisbane Gyms (Around Toowong)

Sup guys,

I am currently a member of FF, and usually train at Toowong (where I live) or Albion (where I work).

I am continually disappointed by the mincing f*****s that go there, and the s***house hours that the place runs. Today for example, I finish work at 5, and the gym is closed.

I am wondering if anyone can reccomend an alternative gym around my area. I train 6 times a week, and long hours are desirable. I also need freeweights, I want DB upto 45kg, and Concept II's.

Thanks in advance guys

UQ gym.

Open till 11pm Mon-thurs
Open till 9pm Fri-Sun and public holidays.

Dumbells go up to 60kg.

Doesn't really have any nice modern machines, but has everything u need (free weight stuff etc).

Oh my god that's such a brilliant suggestion.

If I've got an annual pool card, is that valid at the gym too?

The "GYM/CARDIO/POOL PASS" is more expensive than the Pool card so I doubt it.

U can most likely upgrade your pool card to a gym/cardio/pool pass on a pro-rata basis.

ie. If you've bought a 1 year pool card and want to add gym/cardio to it, u just pay the difference - u dont have to pay for pool again.

Going to UQ gym u may also have a trog spotted! which makes it all worth while haha

Thanks for coming man

Le Cock, awesome tip, just had a session there and I love it. On top of my pool pass, it's only like another $30 for gym access. Nice rugged feel, not like the f*****s at FF wearing makeup

will there be reach rounds in the change rooms ?

i use the gym at southbank tafe, cheap as s*** if you're a student and even if you're not it's still cheaper than fitness first or one of those rip offs

UQ represent. New equipment is a good start. And awesome that you can dumb bell 45kgs:O Is that for bent over rows? Or are you benching that much?!

I was benching that much before I went OS. I'm stuck on 40 atm, I think my deadlifts need to rise before my bench will fix itself

We should have a qgl get massiv meet

Can u recommend any good steroids? I get to a point where I can't gain anymore, and I hear steroids give you 10kg, then you lose 5kg after the cycle, but like, you gain 5kg overall.. Sounds good to me!

Oh yeah, and I have FF membership at Toowong and haven't noticed any "mincing f*****s", depends what hours you train I guess. The location is a bit annoying though, should be on the ground floor IMO.

Gotta get myself back in shape! starting tomorrow :D

haha doing weights is such a personal thing, why would you care who is around you?

Most times I have my ipod on and don't look at or talk to anyone.

Except the hot chickie babes, which FF is never short on. Not to mention their gear is second to none, it's air conditioned, and you can have a sauna aferwards.

Any pro tips about same question but for inner city/south side. I don't want to goto a c********* gym like fitness first, and I don't want to be paying 3 billion dollars a month and don't care about LCD's on the machine weights.

Hey does QUT have a gym? Might check that option out.

Yeah QUT has a gym - walk down the stairs next to the bookshop to get there. It's pretty oldskool though and not very big or spacious.

FF is indeed gay. Indro FF has moodlighting - it's as dark as a nightclub in there and makes me sleepy. Toowong has lighting, but not enough benches etc. Both are full of mincing f*****s, and having no membership cap means it gets so packed u literally can't do anything.

Its too f***ing cold thats the biggest problem, so it's impossible to stretch out properly

Then you go into the steam room or sauna or something and the difference in temp is so big you nearly pass out

I think I'm going to drop ff and goto uq, just got a 3 month gym membership so I'll see if its as good as my first experience all around the clock

jmr - the busy times at UQ are 5:30pm-7:30pm Monday-Thursday nights. Fri-Sun are pretty quiet all day.

However being said, even in peak it's usually not busy enough to hinder your workout, and I don't really have to aim to avoid those times or anything. Very rarely it gets so busy that I get the s***s. Nothing at all like FF peak times.

Overall you're not gonna find a better option this side of town, or possibly anywhere.

I wouldn't worry about that. Me and three of my mates go there and none of us have had any problems...I've been there for just over 1 year and one of my mates has been there for about 2.5 years (he now works there a bit). All the staff are extremely friendly, as well as the owners.

I recently started going to Good Life in Graceville, I live in Indro so its like a 5min drive and not too busy there.

^I've heard that one sucks arse. The Goodlife at Chermside is apparently good but busy. Quite a few Brisbane bodybuilders use it from what I understand.

Man FF gear isn't that great, I mean sure its fairly new and in good nick, but its definitely far from the best gym OR gear in brisbane.

Well, after about 2 weeks at UQ, I am definitely happy with it, and the people there are cooler

Saw some roided mofo repping the 60kg dumbells haha

The staff are very friendly, but there's a couple of staff (at least one guy and one girl) who are so slight that I don't bother asking them if they could spot me. And yeh, there's a lot of bacne there +o(

I _usually_ go with someone, so I don't have to scrounge around for spots very often, but I haven't had any trouble finding people as yet.

Wtf is bacne? When do you train ? We should meet up sometime for a sesh

My hours are all over the place. I train 2 days on 1 day off, so there's no regular days of the week. Hours revolve around my uni/work.

Back acne = Bacne. Result of roids. That and the small testes.

Yeah its awesome but it gets busy then dies off quickly which is good. There are a couple of big boys there, damn.

At least the c***s on roids at uq can actually lift. The f*****s at FF at toowong are weak as s***, and they just look like they've been blown up
